I'm thinking of buying an Evo 25 with an outboard in the well.

One of my questions is can any one tell me an about price to convert her to install a Beta Marine (or other) engine?

My friend Brian, who owns Aquila (see this link http://z10.invisionfree.com/EvolutionYacht...hp?showtopic=11 ) has installed a Beta 13.5hp for about £5000 with fitting and including a folding prop. I will be seeing him next week and will post any more info that he can supply.

thanks for that as i'm talking with the broker at the moment so i might be an evo owner soon!

funny thing thou that when i was working at safety kleen years ago. i visit beta marine to maintain their paint machines! they even painted once an engine pink as special order for a customer.

Having thought about this a bit more and spoken to Brian, I would make the following comments.
Another choice of inboard engine would be the Nanni Diesel 10 or 14 hp. This is similar to the Beta engine and both are based on the Kibota engine block.
Having said that, the logistics of changing are somewhat daunting. An inboard engine would require a tube installed in the hull for the prop shaft and a stern gland, together with P bracket and cutlass bearing.
I am not aware of what occupies the space that would receive the inboard engine.
Then of course the outboard well would have to be modified to turn it into cockpit space.
All in all, a bit expensive. Far better to purchase a boat that already has an inboard engine!

I now have a Beta 14HP in my Evolution 26. I have sent you by email a spreadsheet of all the parts required and the costs. In summary you are looking at approx £5,000 for parts and about £3,000 labour if you want a really professional job doing. You could do the install yourself of course - but don't underestimate the amount of time it will take.

I personally would steer clear of an Evo25 with an outboard unless you can get it for about £7K in really good condition - that's about the going rate. The 25 with an outboard in a well is not at all popular and if you don't get to do the upgrade to diesel then you may struggle to sell it. You can get a good 25 with a diesel for about £13K which in my opinion would be a better investment. Even if you could get one with an old diesel and then change to a Beta or Nanni that would be a cheaper option in the long run.

You have to accept that while a diesel will transform the boat you will never recover the costs when you sell unless you buy the outboard Evo at the right price.

if all goes ahead (depense on survey) i will do most if not all work my self as i know diesel engines, electrics, boats installs etc very well :D i'm a mechanic after all from the past but working in the it since 1979.
