I have a friend who has just bought an Evolution 22 in Wales. He is wanting to trailer it back and needs some ideas as to the boats weight. He would also like any extra information on his new boat.

He was encorage to buy from seeing my Evolution 25 and how she sailed so well.

I have an evolution 22 nice to know someone else has one. I was beginning to think there was only one ever made. I believe they are about 1100 kg. I am in the process of an extensive refit with mine, dropping the keel out, replacing the running rigging etc. I am concerned that the mast is not the correct one; I know they were fitted with different rigs but this one seems excessively long and heavy. It has been dismasted at some time which makes me more suspicious. You couldn’t tell me how long your mast is could you. If you let me have your email address there are a lot of things we might find of mutual interest.

Regards
Alan.

Hi , My friend who has the Evolution 22 is called Mike Lynch his email is mike.lynch2004 at ntlworld.com

Replace the at with @ removing all spaces, to stop spam.

The Evolution 22 boat is in Wales and we are on the south coast, Hayling Island. When we get it bak home we will measure the mast. I would guess this is length and also diameter and thickness of section.
However, when I first viewed an Evolution mast it looked really long and thick. It seems too big but the high level of ballast and form stability, the boat can actually take it. When I first went sailing with the past owner he showed me that it could be very stable when pushed in a high wind. Normally the crew loosen the main sheet before the boat starts to complain. If you call up a mast manufacture they might be able to give you some measurements.

my email is drjaspergj at yahoo.co.uk

Was the Evo22 recently purchased, Foxy from Pembrokeshire?
If so I have some good pictures which I think may have come from Neyland YC website. I do not have time right now to figure out how to put on this site but happy to send to some one who has time or knowledge to do so.

Beagle

With regard to specifications for the 22. I have two sets of figures when different they are in brackets. LOA 21ft-8ins. LWL 18ft. Beam 8ft-2ins. Draft Keel up 10ins. Down 4ft-00 (4ft-7ins) Displacement 2300lbs. Both specs that I have list the boat as a mast head rig. (mine is a seven eights) Main 80sq ft. No 1 Genoa 169 sq ft. Ballast is listed as 700lbs steel cased lead in the one spec in the other 650 lbs 600 lbs of which is the drop keel. I think the earlier one was the encapsulated lead but was changed for the cast iron one.

Alan.
