Title: Final Fantasy Debate
Linoud - May 18, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
I decided we should get one of these topics, as I know quite a few of our members here have played several of the games.
I personally think, that FF7 is the best. And no, just because it's over-rated doesn't mean it's a crap game. Though I do need to finish several others, my favorite will probably change. I'm sick and tired of hearing the same old debate when it comes to this game. "Oh your a fanboy, this game is way too over-rated, it sucks."
The story is one of the more memorable ones, there's a good few mini games. (Chocobo Racing anyone?) The soundtrack is good, I think it's got some really nice tracks. For instance, the Junon theme is one of the best ever, in the entire FF series. <3
I like the playable characters in this too, it has the best Cid of the Final Fantasy series, at least that's what myself and Kovu think.
It's got Red XIII, whom should have had a lot more lines in the Film, he was more of a silent character though compared to the other party members. Vincent is cool, I like his back story quite a bit, haven't beaten Dirge of Cerberus but I'll get around to it.
Cloud's probably my favorite though, I just like the guy. He's got quite a back story to me, and isn't that emo considering it, unlike a certain FF8 main character. I liked Tifa and Aeris too, but Tifa was in my party more often than the others I think. I used her as my Thief really.
But the main point of this topic is to debate Final Fantasies and your favourites and whatnot. :P Go ahead, I'm waiting for Zidane to post something now about FF7 being over-rated. >_>

FF7 was probably one of the crappiest in gameplay. The story was one of the deepest, and the characters were very interesting but thats as far as it goes. I didn't much care for the music either. Way too many fanboy's believe this is the best, and it's far over-hyped and over rated. 90% of the people who believe this game is the best are usually some idiot n00b and it was like their first rpg ever and probably their only one to ever play still!
My favorite FF character is by far Squall, my second being Vivi.
My favorite FF game is a tough decision between FF4, FF9, and FF12.

Crappiest in gameplay? I liked the materia system, although yes it was easy to abuse if you knew what you were doing. But I found the gameplay quite solid. o_o; The battles were quick and that was a good thing in my book. The music was great I thought, quite a few themes stand out in my mind. One Winged Angel, Jenova, Junon Theme, Riddle de Chocobo. All good themes, I found it actually had one of the better uses of chocobo's in all the Final Fantasies.
90% of people who believe this game to be the best are some noob? No, wrong, there are a lot of fanboys, but not 90% of the fans are idiots. About 75% I'd reckon, there's a good chunk of intelligent FF7 fans. There's too many people who hate it just because it's popular. It's overrated to hate this game because it's overrated. >_>
FF8 was my first Final Fantasy mind you, though I think Pokemon was my first RPG. D: But I think this was my second FF, no I'm sure it is. It's the only one I've beaten so far, seeing as I've had some bad luck with my files. I should continue my new FF8 and FF9 ones though. I plan on beating alot of them this summer.

I've only played FF 8. I rented it after I heard FF 7 was OMFGAWDAWESOME and it was the latest one out at the time.
I saw Advent Children. And read 8-bit Theater when it first came out. That's about it for my FF experience.
All my bias against the franchise stems from the fanboy slobber I've been smothered in by some people. And Soja and Blank, who actually play the games. XD

Uh . . . Mum's trying to get me to play FF3 on the DS (I think it's 3), and that looks pretty good.
I saw Advent Children. <333 fight scenes, wtf at the plot, which was incredibly difficult to follow.
Linoud - May 31, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
You haven't played a final fantasy? D:
Play 3, I got it for the DS myself when I purchased mine.
It's a good game from the little I've played of it, but you must play the others. FF6 and FF7 especially. :P

My favourite Final Fantasy will forever and always be the Original Final Fantasy Tactics.
Carl - July 7, 2007 02:04 PM (GMT)
7 is my favorite, this is maybe simply because it was the first ff game I played. The only bad thing about it was the graphics oh and maybe it got a little too easy near the end. everything else was great, especially the storyline
8 had a great storyline too. just sucky how the only way you could get money was to wait for your salary to come in, which felt like ages sometimes.
9 was good, only the final boss.....where in the world did he come from?!? he wasnt mentioned at all during the whole game then he just comes along to fight.
10......if you decided to train to fight the dark aeons (they only appeared in the PAL versions, basically imagine fighting the WEAPONs from ff7 but much harder, doing 99,999 damage each hit [thats right, 99,999]) and managed to defeat them, then theres a chance that you probably killed the final boss (the jecht one) in just a few hits.
12 - finished too early. the main storyline only took me about 30-ish hours, and i thought i was complete noob at this ff. someone who knows their stuff quickly could probably do this in 20 hours.
as for the others (i got ff3 on ds, 4 & 5 & 6 on playstation) they all have their own little things about them that make em fun.
Linoud - July 18, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Interesting. :D Carl's got similar views to me. But I never bothered playing 12 much. I got uninterested. xD
Askio - August 14, 2007 12:47 AM (GMT)
Eh tough one. Besides the money in FF8, I liked it a lot. Im replaying it right now. FF10 was my first final fantasy ever, then I got to the classics. Ronso are one of my favorite races in the FF world right now. 12 was good, especially getting rid of the random battles, with epic music too, but it was a bit short in the main plot, but still made up with all the extra. The ultimate boss of the esper and the clan. A few hours to beat the last clan hunt. I liked FF7, but the materia system was eh for me. I would have to probably say 10 right now until I beat the others.

You win.
The only Final Fantasys that suck enough for me to really care right now are FFX-2, FFVIII and FFMQ.
I'll get into detail if you don't understand what I hate about these three games.
Ah. Final Fantasy. Some of the best RPGs ever, and some of the worst..

I can understand why x-2 and mq were not faved but why 8? =O
apart from the pay system, that game mostly rocked. Especially the storyline =)
Linoud - August 25, 2007 07:29 PM (GMT)
Coincidentally. I'm playing FF8 right now, or I was. Laguna is too funny, and his battle theme > the rest.
I mean, in the second flashback in the ruins just at the end after he throws Ward and Kiros off.
"Hey. You guys are crazy. Do you know how high up this cliff is?"
Then he tries to scale down the cliff a little but he hits his head.
"OH SH!!" "UH-OH!" "AAAAAAH" Then falls. Laguna wins.

Uhh. The characters were boring and predictable. THe story really didn't feel like a Final Fantasy story-- it wasn't as interesting. I hate the battle theme more than I hate Chrono Trigger's battle theme (and that's saying a lot, because I put effort into finding the flaws of Chrono Trigger), Squall, Squall, Squall (yeah, I hate him several times over).
But really it's drawing and junctioning that I hate most. There isn't a single Final Fantasy setup that I hate more than drawing and equipping magic. It's stupid. The GFs were an alright touch, but it didn't make up for the lame-ness of draw/junction. Oh, and FFXIII tried to mimic FFT's "100 exp to level up" system (though in "FFVIII it was 1000), that also failed pretty badly. I mean not only could you rape the game before leaving Balamb but having a level 99 Squall and mid 50 everyone else by the final disk on your average runthrough is shitty and stupid.
There are only a couple things I like about that game. Irvine and Laguna. Though the boss theme is my second favourite next to the boss theme in IV.

7- I didn't like 7 i thought it was boring and had bad graphics, i may have liked it more if i hadn't let someone borrow it and and the person kept making excusses on not giving it back, i never did get it back.
8- i thought 8 was worse than 7, i thought it was boring .
9- is my most favorite final fantasy, i think it is the best and has the best characters gameplay and everything.
10- I think it was okay but hard.
10-x ~ I think it is a great game and don't see why many hate it. it's one of my favorite FF's.
12- 12 is probabally my second favorite becuase i have played it more than others except 9. I like how anyone could be a magician or the fighter and anyone could wield any weapon, but i was dissapointed that their were no boomerangs in the game ( i love boomerangs, thier awsome!).
