Arrakeen Board Rules
Members must read the following rules.
Failure to read the rules will not be an acceptable excuse for breaking them.
Members should contact the Administration if they need help in any way.Board-wide PoliciesForum rules 1. Posts are to be made in the relevant forum. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting. Users consistently posting to the wrong forum may be given a warning (see policing below). If you are unsure then PM a member of Staff or the Administration.
2. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. Extreme cases may result in a ban without warning.
3. Members are asked to not act as "back seat moderators". If members note an issue that contradicts something in this document they are welcome to bring it to the attention of a member of Staff or to the Administration via PM. Only do so if a Staff member has not replied within 6 hours. Members who consistently "act" as moderators will be warned.
4. Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text & swearing, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. Deliberate and or blatant posting of the above material may result in a ban without warning.
5. Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users re-printing material without permission will receive a warning and their post will be removed.
6. Members should respect the bandwidth of other users and sites. The use of inline ([IMG][/IMG]) image tags pointing to data stored on third party systems for which the user has not received permission to link to may be removed.
7. Members should use an appropriate, descriptive title when posting a new topic. Examples of bad titles include; "Help me!", "You have to see this!", etc.
8. Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. Users posting spam will be warned and their post removed, Also cheerleading,eg posting "I agree" and "Yes" are not replies are considered spam and will be deleted! If you have nothing to add to a conversation do not post for the sake of posting.
9. The Administration reserve the right to edit or remove any post at any time. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to the Board Owner & Administrators and not the users.
10. Please try to stay on topic when replying to a post. Any post that is deemed off-topic may be either moved, deleted, or edited. If you feel a post has been unjustly subjected to the above you may contact a member of the Administration.
11. Members should try to write in a manner that is considered “in good form”. Incorrect punctuation, excessive misspelling, run-on sentences and the incorrect use of words make it difficult, and in some cases impossible to follow a post. If you are unsure of the above or have trouble with typos you may want to run your post through a spelling/grammar checking program and copy/paste it before submitting it. Because we are aware our members are from many different countries and English may not be a first language, the Administration will be lenient. Only in extreme cases will the member be warned and asked to “clean up” their posts.
12. Because of the volatile nature of political and religious threads the Administration have decided to avoid such topics at Arrakeen unless they specifically relate to Dune. In doing this we hope to avoid uncivil behavior and potential “flaming” of our members. Passing comments on these topics will be tolerated as long as they are in good taste and inoffensive. If any member wishes to discuss non Dune related religion or politics they should do so on another board. It is our hope that this action will ensure the continuation of the friendly and civilized atmosphere that has thus far been the norm at Arrakeen.
13. The above forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above) and/or the revocation of private messaging.
Policing 1. Arguing with Administrators after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. However, you may be asked to provide an explanation for an act which you were warned for. If the act is extreme enough and the explanation is not satisfactory or received within 24 hours you may be banned, even if it is your first offense.
2. Users who feel they have been unfairly warned are welcome to contact the Administrators, e.g. if warned by a Staff member you should contact the Administrator or Board Owner. If it is decided that you were treated badly, the warning will be removed. That decision is final. Contacting Administrators over warning matters should be done so as a very last resort.
3. Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban will lead to that ban being made permanent. Circumvention includes re-registering under a non-banned username, changing IP addresses to evade an IP ban, registering a new email account to evade an email ban.
4. Permanent bans are a last resort and thought is given before implementing them. While we may consider lifting permanent bans from time to time, this is a rare occurrence.
If you have a question regarding any of the above please contact a member of the Administration.
I would like to thank Worm over at Haven for allowing me to use his rules as a guideline.
