Title: Artrage
Description: Templates and ArtRage don't mix...
Cepheus - March 1, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
I'm test running ArtRage, and I was wondering if anybody knew how to put templates on. I keep trying to load them and it won't let me because "The picture did not appear to be an ArtRage painting." (Well, duh!) Do I have to keep tracing and saving them as templates?

This is how I use templates in Artrage:
First open up MS Paint and modify the template to how you want it to look (( such as copy and pasting legs arms, fins...ect...)) Then save your image as a PNG. Then open Artrage, go to file and then to import image and find your file that you saved in paint. Open that file and the template should appear in Artrage.
I hope that helps. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Did it work for you at all? And a little tip: When drawing on a template Don't use the eraser tool in Artrage. If you need to erase anything, finish coloring the template and go to file, and then 'export image as' and then save it as a PNG. You can erase anything extra off of the image without ruining it in MS Paint afterwards.
Just thought you would need to know this if when you work with templates.

Yeah, it worked! :D I just now figured out that there was a difference between "Import Image" and "Open." I think I've got it now, so thanks! (I probably will have more questions, should I PM them to you, or just post 'em here?)

Why not post them here so everyone that has Artrage can learn from them?

Okay, is there a certain way to stay within the lines on templates?
Shadow Dragon - March 2, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
Not exactly.... All I can say is zoom in at 800% and continue coloring. That should help you stay within the lines. And the undo button can really come in handy.
Cepheus - March 2, 2006 02:53 AM (GMT)
Just like paint... :P I used that undo button a ton.
Shadow Dragon - March 2, 2006 03:09 AM (GMT)
The undo button is a life saver. Oh, in paint you can undo diffrent changes three times. In Artrage you can undo everything ever done to the image. Very handy when you noticed you messed up.

You guys have ArtRage? Me too! I'm not quite liking it as much as the crappy little Paint program you first get when you buy the computer.

I'm testing The GIMP and ArtRage to see which one I can use better. Neither one seems to like me...
The Furox - March 5, 2006 06:36 PM (GMT)
Both programs have a different focus: ArtRage is a paint program while GIMP is an image manipulation program. Both programs have strengths, so ideally knowing them both and being able to use them in combination would give you the most powerful capabilities. For example, while you can draw and paint in GIMP, the paint and brush simulations that are easy in ArtRage are more difficult in GIMP. And in GIMP, you have layers and channels which are powerful tools for compositing artwork, creating shadows and adding shading. GIMP is difficult to get started with, but once you get the basic idea of how things work, a lot of potential opens for you.

Alright, thanks, Furox! :D
