I also use Fireworks, excellent program to start with, but people say that Photoshop is more...professional, and has much more tools and effects...I also knew how to use it, but since my old computer was taken from me, I forgot how to use it :(

Actually, Fireworks and Photoshop have the same tools, just in different places with different pictures!! I remember, because when I first started useing Fireworks, I was amazed that it did the same things as Photoshop!

I've just acquired Photoshop 7, and my only other experience is in MS Paint, so any tips for that program would be appreciated, too. :)

Anything in particular you would like explained? It's kinda hard to give general tips. :P
And if you scroll though
here on deviantart there are a ton of great tutorials! I can't think of any specific tutorials at the moment, but I'll see if I can find some. ;)

Well first off here's a tutorial I have used before and really like
http://www.deviantart.com/view/20958376/Color mixing, such as blending colors I take it? Well, there are several ways you can go about it. First you could paint your two colors side by side with a brush at 100% opacity and then pick one of the colors and switch the brush to airbrush mode. Then you set the opacity at around 10-20% and brush the color over to blend them together. Second, you could use the blur tool to blur the two colors together. Third, you can use the smudge tool and drag the colors together, this metho would give you a more traditionaly painted look.
I think that about covers it! :P

More tutorials for digital artists:
Bert Monroy has several excellent books out on how to create photo-realistic art with Photoshop. Used copies are pretty cheap on amazon.com. He also has a number of easy tutorials on his web site:
Bert Monroy's Photoshop TutorialsIf you're interested in digital photo retouching, one book I have that I highly recommend is: "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching" by Katrin Eismann.
Fun stuff, huh.
