Title: Civilization?

Cepheus - February 4, 2006 06:08 PM (GMT)
In the spirit of asking what other games people play...

Has anybody here played any of the Sid Meier's Civilazations? It's actually quite fun to run a country, get into wars, and beat the life out of all opponents... (Unless they beat the life out of you first. :P )

I've played the second and have the third along with the expansion, Civilization: Conquests, for the third and the online game, too.

nope but it sounds like a vary cool game :)

I think that i did at my friend's house, is it the one where you are on a world map and try to develop new technologies for war, and other things, like take over cities and make allies and stuff like that? My friend got all the way to nuclear weapons

It is. Basically you run a country and try to dominate the world in two ways:

World Domination- Kill off all the other nations. (Also known as bloodlust in Civ. 2)

Win the Space Race- Be the first to launch a space ship (Components and all) into space and colonize other planets.

There was a spinoff based on winning the space race, Alpha Centauri.

Civ. 2 is a good one to start off on, it's not as complex as Civ. 3, but the graphics aren't as good and it's not as realistic.

The graphics on Civ. 3 are some of the best for what it is. The people move, and pretty smoothly, at that, and the battles are animated. (You can undo that in Preferences.) There are sounds for almost everything, from fortifying to clearing forests to moving.

That is a great game, though I only have played the second one. The part I enjoy most is that you can rename all of the titles, names and such, making it very unique to you. What's also fun about it, is that you can make your civilisation extremely high-tech and exterminate everyone else rather easily.

phsycopathicdragon - February 4, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
wow, never knew that there were other planets you could colonise.

Cheat mode, huh? I played with that all the time. Sadly, there's no cheat mode on Civ. 3.

So you've played it? I read the reviews and it's gotten rid of anarchy, which could come in handy...

Yes, that's where the spin off came from. I haven't played it, but I've seen it in my dad's storage cupboard. I might try it sometime.

Yeah, you make allies and enemies all the time, which is quite fun to watch the people your beating pay tribute to "your manifest magnificence." What a bunch of sore losers...

I have fun when I take out an entire nation to put "Was ___."

I found it rather annoying to have a bunch of idiots respawning constantly, though you can change it in the rules.

I think the lowest requirements are Windows 98. But you're right, my old '98 crashed because I gamed it to death...

Well, I run on Windows XP, but I upgraded it from a 98.

That and I only have like 320 MB of ram. -_-

I got my dad's old XP. His new one's a monster of an XP along with his monitor. It scared me when I first saw it. Have you tried Civ. 3? The requirments are probably lower, and the graphics are still pretty good.

I've never play Civ. 3 but I have a bunch of the Age of Empire games which I enjoy a lot. :)

Yeah!!! Oooh, have you ever played the VERY first one? Compared to AOE2, it's so limited! :P

the power of ICE - February 7, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Nope, I want to play the third one though.

The graphics are mind blowing. O.O
