Title: Fanfiction Site
ShadowCat - April 30, 2005 04:08 AM (GMT)
I've found a site that's very similar to FF.net. It's at
http://www.nfiction.com/index.php. I'm not sure if it's any good yet. It doesn't seem to have as many features as FF.net.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 04:15 AM (GMT)
It looks almost identical, menu wise, but with far less fics. It actually looks like they copy-pasted ff.net's menus and stuff directly to their page. ;)
Bottom of the page:

Sri Lankan food exporters?!?

Very weird! There doesn't seem to be anywhere where you can suggest new categories.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 04:22 AM (GMT)
Probably because they have all those empty ones. Mabey they just put a heap in and hoped for the best?
ShadowCat - April 30, 2005 04:27 AM (GMT)
That's what it looks like. They probably just got the categories from FF.net.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 04:30 AM (GMT)
Yeah, before a lot of the new ones were added to ff.net.
ShadowCat - April 30, 2005 04:38 AM (GMT)
I suppose it might be an okay site if it had more categories and stuff. There really should be something for people to suggest new categories! Then they could just put up the categories people want instead of having all those empty ones.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 04:49 AM (GMT)
And if they designed their own layout. That might help.
ShadowCat - April 30, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
Yeah. It's way too similar to FF.net. They've really only changed the colours!
There used to be another decent fanfiction archive, but I don't think it's up anymore. Pity. They were really good with putting up new categories and had a nice layout.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 04:58 AM (GMT)
There are a few small ones around, with some good fics, but I guess that somewhere along the line, the people at ff.net did something very right.
ShadowCat - April 30, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah. FF.net is definitely the most popular fanfiction site around. And the one with the most categories.
LightningFlash - April 30, 2005 05:03 AM (GMT)
*Grins* And the most rants sent flying in its direction.
Sarah Frost - April 30, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
It's certainly the most popular, and it has its good points. For bigger fandoms, quality-controlled archives and rec lists are where I find my fanfiction, but for the small obscure ones, FF.Net's probably the best out there.
What's really wrong with FF.Net is all the stupid fanpoodles who post badfic and Mary-Sues, rather than the site itself.

I hate FF.net! I don't know what they've done, but I can't use anything to seperate POV. I've tried leaving extra lines and everything and nothing works! Some of my stories are still all right, but some aren't. I won't be putting much else on FF.net if I can't figure out how to fix it.
Sarah Frost - May 1, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
You can't leave extra lines, but I find the single dash (-) works.

Edit IN FF.net after you upload a fic, and they have a divider option, I discovered thius after much MUCH anger about the same thing
ShadowCat - May 1, 2005 06:54 AM (GMT)
I tried that and it didn't work for me. I think the single dash thing should work, anyway.
