Title: Gargoyles
Thrakos - January 31, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
For us old enough her to remeber the show Gargoyles also i disney show with a very large fanbase, even after it ended over 10 years ago.
I'm starting to think that Dragobooster, with live on the sameway.
Are there any Gargoyle Fans here?
silverwing - January 31, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Yep :D I remember them and have both Season 1 and Season 2 Volume 1 on DVD. It was a great show
DargonXKS - January 31, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I love that show! I usually watch it on reruns every once in a while. :D
Thrakos - January 31, 2006 06:17 PM (GMT)
I can't remeber where i heard this, but i think i heard if sales were good enough on DVD sales they may consider bringing the show back.
If they do i hope they stick with old animation style they used.
silverwing - January 31, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)
I heard that to. I think it was on a Gargoyle fan site. I also hope that they keep the animation the same because it gives the show a dark atmosphere instead of Disney's usually cheerful colours
Airshadow - January 31, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
HEHEHE
I remember them ;D;D;D;D
I'ma huge fan of them ;D
and it isn't the only show that have survived, Beast wars do I knew a forum that is opened since 2000 :D
Cepheus - January 31, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
I watched it when I was little and went back and watched the entire series over not that long ago. Great show if you ask me.
Kay Yasha - January 31, 2006 09:14 PM (GMT)
I loved that show so much! But then they took it off...
Nemi the Nen - January 31, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
I love Gargoyles, I'm a Puck fangirl. Gargoyles is the drac-est animated cartoon, ever. If Dragon Booster could take itself half as serriously as Gargoyles did, with half the coherance of plot and scene to scene continuity, then Dragon Booster would have a far larger fan base.
...I wonder what Dragon Booster would be like if we injected a dose of reality into it? Like Arta and Lance worrying about their father. Kitt throwing her Jakk stick into the gears instead of the mysteriously expanding rock. Parm's mom maybe disproving of him hanging out with hooligans in mid and down city. Etc.

Yes! One of my favorite series. I've also been to one of the fan conventions a couple of years ago and had a great time. I've meet Greg Weisman (the series creator) and several of the cast and crew. Among other fun things, there was a banquet dinner as part of the convention and they seated one person from the cast or crew at each table. Thom Adcox (voice of Lexington) was at my table for the evening. Did you know he owns 11 dogs? :) (Or at least, he did at the time.) And in case you've ever wondered what he really sounds like, well then you may be interested to know that he's one of those voice actors that just uses his real voice. His real voice sounds pretty much just like Lexington.
One of the funniest things was watching the reactions of the other guests at the hotel that knew nothing about Gargoyles. On the night of the banquet dinner, there was also a costume contest and masquerade dance, so there were lots of people walking around the hotel dressed up as gargoyles, sorcerers and what have you. You should have seen the looks from people. I think they thought there was a devil worship convention going on. :o
The next Gathering is coming up in a few months. It's in LA again from June 23-26. I'm going to try and go if I can. Here's the info in case anyone else is interested:
Tenth Annual Gathering of the GargoylesIf anyone else decides to go, post or drop me a note.

Absolutely. If Dragon Booster could hit the tone and cohesiveness of Gargoyles, its fan base could be enormous. It'd be more than just us die-hard dragon fans and action/adventure junkies. I think season 2 is closer to where the show should be and I'm hoping season 3 will be even better.

I loved that show! ^^ Puck and Demon were my fav characters ^^ I loved that episode with the mirror. That one was funny. :D

Hee, Puck is great. I know someone who kinda writes Puck/Demona (yes a pairing, no to actual...romancey romance) and it's good.

Not the tone, I don't think. Gargoyles they just come out of having their entire family killed. Dragon Booster? Essentially the Messiah just came. So not the tone. Dragon Booster is a bright show, hopeful and shiney. But definetly coherance and more self referance of the plot, and actual character building?
For instance, I think Connor wasn't the best father. Yes, Lance and Arta love him very much, but he wasn't around much, breeding the Dragon of Legend is hard work, and then making sure Beau manages to grow up, be healthy, and keep him hidden? Plus other stable work? Yeah. And it might be why Arta doesn't like dragons much, dragons take his father's attention away from him.
In the races Kitt would win against Arta often at first. Maybe the when everyone gets seperated people riding other people's dragons. A dragon-human relay race possibly. School, which might be handled like in Star Trek DS9 (Access learning off of PADDs), if you want to teach, more use of PADDs, I think it's like online colleges for kids.
And the Down City Crews? I'd give them more gang like behavior amongst other things (like the Army of the Dragon and such might actually be respected and get legal jobs) Maybe a sub plot of trying to reclaim past glory, and capturing other crew's pages of the Magma Draconis

Hey, I was a fan of the Gargoyles too. :P

If you want to re-live it, the first two seasons are out on DVD (at least in North America). :) All the rest of the episodes are slated to be released over the next year. I have my copies and the picture quality is great!

After Disney's Hunchback, I had been curious about gargoyles. I bought the VHS from England, and it was Awakenings, the first five episodes. I had been watching every episode ever since. Of all the gargoyles, I clicked close with Brooklyn. We are hot-headed, admirer of city, etc. I am not a good leader.
SilverDragon - January 16, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
I'm, like, the only person here who has never seen Gargoyles. Well, I saw the very end of an episode which had stuff on fire in it, and a friend had action figures of some of the characters (or maybe I'm mixing them up with something else).
If it's as good as you say, I might go and see whether the episodes got uploaded to YouTube or some other video site.

There are some episodes on Youtube. Check out the show at Youtube.

A bunch of episodes (but not all) are out on DVD as well.

From what others have said, it looks like the series never played in Australia, so I'd say you're not alone.
Gargoyles was a great series. If you like a show with strong continuity where story threads from like 20 episodes ago resurface and actually mesh well with the current episodes, and you like a more serious show with little to no comic relief, then you should like Gargoyles. For a western made animated series, it has an incredibly well thought out story arc that reaches across the whole 65 episodes. They also weren't afraid to do multi-part episodes when the story needed it. The show routinely had 3 and 4 part episodes, and they also had some of the best thought out time travel episodes.
What's more is that even though the series ended like 12 years ago, there are so many fans who can't get enough of it that there's still an annual fan convention exclusively for Gargoyles. Off hand, I can't think of another animated show that hasn't had new episodes in that long a period that still has its own fan conventions. That says a lot right there.
If you really want to get into the series, try to see the episodes in order since Gargoyles is really a continuing story line. The series opens with a 5 part episode called "Awakenings", so look for that one.
Burnout Beau - January 18, 2008 08:50 AM (GMT)
Well, I used to watch it too when I was little, but it went off the air 5 years ago...and has not returned since.
From the series, my fave characters are Goliath, Brooklyn, and lately, Xanatos (reminded me of Lex Luthor).

In general, that's the type of cartoon series that I loved to watch. Anime series has been doing it very often and it's good to see one from America joining the fray.
Too bad that there's not much animated series from America that follows this trend.

News!
I went and watched the first episodes on YouTube. While it was incomplete, as not all the parts had been uploaded, I managed to get what was going on and what happened.
I'm not that MUCH of a fan yet. It was good, and I'd watch more, but it hasn't suckered me in yet. Although I do have to say I've already got some favorite characters, namely Brooklyn and Hudson. I have little-to-no idea why, but they're the guys I liked the most. Goliath is too angsty.
Anyone besides me notice that Magus looked like Moordryd? ^_^
Aerodragon Highflyer - January 18, 2008 06:23 PM (GMT)
My brother and I are big fans of Gargoyles (well, I wouldn't say super-crazy fans, but we like it nonetheless). We've seen most of the episodes, and it still airs where we are, but only at about 10pm and 2am <_< . Very frustrating.
My favorite characters are Brooklyn, Lexington, and Broadway. They're a great trio, almost like brothers, getting on each other's nerves but end up getting along in the end (somewhat).

Now that you mention it, yes, Magus looks like Moordryd. That is the younger Magus, and the older Magus looks like Word. You are right. I had another look at the guide, and you are not the only one who has noticed something. ^_^

I just hope Dragon Booster will have another thirty-nine episodes. I am loving the two shows. The Gargoyles and Dragon Booster are two of my favourite shows.

A lot of fans like Brooklyn. Must the be hair or the cool sounding voice. :)

Goliath is angsty indeed, but if you watch all five parts of "Awakenings", by the end he has numerous reasons to be that way. In later episodes when they show flash-backs to before the start of the events in Awakenings, Goliath is a lot lighter.

It was really unusual for Disney, wasn't it. The creator of the show Greg Weisman said there was a lot of resistance to the show since it wasn't the typical Winnie the Pooh type show that Disney is famous for. But then the ratings came in and they stopped worrying. :)
Great show. I hope to go to another Gargoyles fan convention some day, too. I've been to two and they were both fun.

There's been a lot more than two. The convention has been held annually for over 10 years! The 12th annual convention takes place this summer in Chicago:
