Title: The Debate!: European Dragons Vs Chinese Dragons
Description: No, Beau is not an option...
SilverDragon - January 28, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
Might I say, this was inevitable, this being a board discussing a dragon show and all that.
Anyway: Which type of dragon do you like/think is better-European or Chinese?
Personally, I prefer the European dragons. They're rough, unbridaled, untamable savage monsters that do whatever they please.
And they breath fire. How can anyone
not like a fire-breathing monster?
(Well, I know for sure that the peasants Trogdor terrorizes don't, but what do we care about computer generated peasants anyway?)
Just in case you forgot, European dragons look like this:

And Chinese dragons look like this:

I like Chinese dragons better. I guess it is because of all the Eastern dragon art and sculptures I have seen, some are beautiful.
Kay Yasha - January 28, 2006 03:39 AM (GMT)
I like eastern dragons better, because the're suposed to be both deadly and be friends with humans. Also the Chinese dragons are more spiritual.
Airshadow - January 28, 2006 04:30 AM (GMT)
I wouldrather chinese.
They means power and good luck. Chinese Dragons was kidn with humans .
dRagOniDe - January 28, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
I chose also the chinesse dragons. They look like a kind of long lizard, but with a gentle face.
Goddesstears - January 28, 2006 06:43 AM (GMT)
Although Chinese dragons are really cool looking, I've always loved the European dragons ^^ They have better body structure and cool wings
The Furox - January 28, 2006 08:23 AM (GMT)
I like European dragons, too. The flying thing is definitely cool. :) And they can be friendly and noble as well, like in the movie "Dragonheart". Though I have to admit Disney's Mushu is pretty cute, too. ;)

I've always prefered European dragons, In fact at the moment I'm working on an enormous picture of one. I would post it but the paper is too big!

Well the European Dragon Is really more elaborated than the Oriental Dragon but I like more the second because the european is always a Demonic symbol, who the warriors must kill, you now, rescue the victim..bla, bla, bla.(Its friendly profile is recent )
In the other hand, the oriental dragon has good spirit a guide for the men and symbol of intelligence and spiritual growth.

Thrakos - January 28, 2006 09:10 PM (GMT)
i like the European Dragon
DargonXKS - January 28, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
I've always loved the European (or western) dragons!! They're what I'm almost always drawing!! :D
Baby_Beau - January 29, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
I prefer European dragons. They seem more majestic and the beards/moustaches on chinese dragons is a little odd to me.
Skylii - January 29, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
Chinese dragons. They're more majestic, intriguing, elaborate, oh, and they can fly without wings. :D
Arthapenn - January 23, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
I choose Europeon dragons. For years, I have been seeing the winged dragons on tv. There were earlier shows with dragons, like Dragon Flyz. I do not see Chinese dragons as much as the other.
Chinese dragons are good, if you want your crops to grow. Chinese believe dragons are rain bringers, and so, they worship the dragons. Mushu was okay. I mean, I find him funny, but I like those with wings such as Sapphra.
Burnout Beau - January 24, 2008 09:02 AM (GMT)
I chose Chinese dragons. Not just Chinese actually, but also Korean and Japanese dragons.
Unlike their European counterparts, the Chinese dragons are considered to be benign and also are believed by the Chinese that they bring rain to the land.
Maybe also 'cuz I've been influenced by the art style of animes, which shows more Asian-style dragons than Western ones. :P
The Hydrag - January 25, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
I am more of a western dragon fan because I LIKE to be able to see how the dragon is flying rather than mystically floating and I cant stand the whiskers hanging off the Chinese dragons mouths. Not to mention that not all western dragons are bad. They are like Orange Chaos dragons, most or many are bad but the good ones are good.

Well, I can't really determine that for certain as I've read several sources stating that the Western dragons are more malevolent and that may be the reason they were being 'hunted down to extinction' by 'knights in shining armour'.
Oh, and also for religious purposes too.
RoldGold Dragon - January 26, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
I like European dragons more than Chinese dragons. The fire breathing aspect appeals to me as well. Alot of it too, I think, has to do with reading fantasy-based fiction. Both types are cool. At some point in history, there very well could have been some flying reptile similar to dragons. Ancient dragon myths persevere (seemingly unrelated) in many countries across the glode.
Elushun - January 26, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
European dragons for me. I have a lot more exopsure to them for one. Eastern dragons are a bit too serpentine for my taste. I like a dragon that more of an original creation than a big lizard or a snake with legs. European dragons are much more varied in their construction and usually have wings as well. Lets creativity take flight, so to speak.
Red Dragon - January 28, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
European for me, plus my fav film (Dragonheart) has one :D
Chinese just don't look right to me. Flying is better than floating.
Decepshunmy - February 10, 2008 10:35 AM (GMT)
I like the Chinese Dragons, because they are important to the Chinese. I am used to the Chinese culture, and I am loving it. Beau and Decepshun are not options, but my favourite dragon is more like the Chinese Dragons. I loved watching Spirited Away, and I had seen it three times. I have the vcd, and I can watch it anytime.
Elushun - February 10, 2008 06:05 PM (GMT)
Maybe Beau should be an option. I'd vote "Canadian Dragon" all the way!
