Title: Macworld - Anyone Going?

The Furox - January 2, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
The Macworld convention is next week at Moscone Center in San Francisco (Jan. 9-13th). I know the chances are really remote that anyone here other than me is going, but I thought I'd ask anyway. The web site stats tell me that about 9% of the visitors to dragon-city.org are running MacOS, so there definitely are Dragon Booster fans using Apple hardware (and at a slightly higher rate than the national average).

So if anyone happens to be going and wants to say "hi" while there, just get in touch. :)

Mac computers are cool! I hear they've got a screen reader with them now. So next time I get a computer I will probably be getting a Mac because I won't have to spend over $1000 for a screen reader because the Windows one is terrible.
And I didn't even know there was a convention.

The Furox - January 3, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
There's a convention for virtually everything these days. :) There are actually several different Mac related conventions (and even a Mac geek cruise you can take), but the January Macworld is the big one. Steve Jobs always gives the keynote address and this is where they make their big splash product announcements. They're fun to go to. I go because my company does Mac software and add-on products and we have a booth on the convention floor.

And yes, Macs come with a screen reader. They have a screen magnifier as well that basically works like an arbitrary power magnifying glass that can be easily moved around the desktop as needed.

Cool! I'm definitely getting a Mac next time then! I use screen magnifiers a lot. The only good one I know of is Zoomtext and it's expensive.

In case anyone might be interested at what goes on at a Macworld trade show...

Here's a picture of the presentation theater in the cavernous Apple booth. Continuous demonstrations of their latest products go on here all day:

A picture looking down one aisle of the show floor. I'm standing a little past the half way point in the building. It's a big place with row after row of booths. It's also a busy place. There are about 35,000 attendees at this show.

Back in the Apple booth, people are checking out the new notebooks:

And here's an Apple guy giving a demonstration of GarageBand to someone:

Lots of fun things to see and try out if you're into any of the digital arts. And of course, there's an enormous number of booths with companies offering every possible iPod accessory. :)

Digital photography and graphic design are also big at this show. Adobe was showing off their latest products and you could play with the latest cameras from Canon and Nikon.

Fun stuff. :)

It's January, which means it's time for MacWorld in San Francisco again. I know it's pretty unlikely, but I'll ask anyway: anyone else going? (It runs all next week, Jan 14-18.)

Artha_penn1995 - January 15, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
I wish I could go..... Maybe next time I'll be in California when the convention will be open :) I'm a big fan of computers in general, and Macs are great! I'll try to get there next year :)

As much as I'd love to, I prefer Windows and Linux to MacOS. Sorry, but gaming on Macs is a joke. Too bad Engadgets aricle about Penryn processors in Mac Pros proved false.

Well, I have linux on my computer and I like it! MacOS isn't bad either... I just like both of them since they are different from Windows, which I hate <_< (no offence to Windows users here). It's just that Linux is so much simpler than Windows, for me anyways.

BTW, Furox let us know if there was anything interesting this year at the convention!

I love Windows, cuz im a gamer and gaming on anything but windows is a joke. Here is a link to the coolest anouncement Way Cool

seriously! That is so cool, how did they make that macbook? OMG!!! I'm so saving money for that!! Thanks!

The latest laptop mac is really slim, and the cover does not bend. It is capable of fuctions. You can hold it on one hand.

It is really cool. I saw it in the Malaysian newspaper. I agree with you.

I too read about it in the newspaper. I cannot believe the macbook is that slim! I could not believe my eyes, as I was reading the intech section of the Malaysian newspaper. If you are getting it, Artha_Penn1995, save your money.

Not only is the MacBook Air the smallest and lightest laptop available from any company (it's hardly any bigger than a clipboard with a writing pad on it), it also has terrific battery life. You can easily carry it around and use it all day. Cool little device, and it's at a good price point as well.

Arthapenn - February 1, 2008 05:06 AM (GMT)
I am even more impressed now, Furox. Thanks for your info.
