Title: These Suits.

LightningFlash - December 17, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
So, from what I've read, the current theory is that Parm, Kitt, Lance, and Moordryd are all going to wind up with a super!suit to match their primary colour influence.

So it should go something like:

Parm=green

Kitt=red

Lance=blue

Moordryd=black

It seems fairly obvious to me that these new suits won't make the wearers as powerful as Artha's gold suit, because what's a Dragon Booster amidst four other equally powerful anti/heroes?

What I'm wondering is, what will the suits be capable of? I'm thinking Parm's will be for strength, Kitt's for speed, Lance's for, well, precision (?) and Moordryd's for sneakage, maybe invisibility? Any theories?

Also, we're taking it for granted the Moordryd will end up on the good!team, but in the meantime, will Armeggeddon make him so powerful that our heroes will all be required to team up against him? Four-to-one seems a little one-sided, so it will be interesting to see if/how they justify it.

Well, Moordryd could find his suit first, Lance is a little small still, Parm has been shaking in his boots every time he has to fight so far, and Kitt would be having so much trouble getting the others moving (and them fighting her because she's a girl) that they could have trouble doing stuff.

I'll have to try to draw a pic of what all the suits could look like now...

Everyone's been saying how they might end up like Power Rangers, but I've been getting Captian Planet MI's that I'm half inclined to doll.

Yes, Moordryd seems closest.

I figure Lance's size would be convenient, if a blue suit allows him to be more fluid and subtle.

Surely, though, part of Parm's development would include bravery, maybe even an over-reliance on his suit.

And if a girl can become the greatest street racer in the city, then I'm sure social issues about fighting girls would be close to elliminated.

I think Moordryd is likely to get hold of the gauntlet that goes with the amulet Armeggaddon gave him in part 2 of "The Return of Drakkus." On the other hand, I don't think Kitt, Parm or Lance will get their super-suits for quite some time. Mortis only just mentioned the existence of armor for the other colors in "Return of Drakkus, Part 1" and he also said the gauntlets are useless without their matching amulets. I tend to think this indicates Artha and company are going to have to spend some time searching for the amulets since Mortis didn't say anything to hint that he already had them. He may know where they're hidden, though. So there may be some episodes involved with searching for or recovering amulets/gauntlets. I could also see this as involving allies. For example, Phistus could theoretically be holding the green amulet as an ancient artifact that's been passed down to him without him having been aware of exactly what it's for.

Mortis also said that Moordryd's suit would give him the "same" power as Artha, though I'm not sure how literally we're supposed to take that.

Artha's armor seems to do three primary things: gives him added strength, protects him from injuries and acts as a supercharger for Beau's own power. So I would imagine that all the suits will do those at least, including charging up the wearer's dragon. So I'd guess that Wyldfyr will get even faster and Cyrano will get even stronger. I'm not sure what Fracshun will get. More cute perhaps? ;)

Artha can also glide with his suit, so I would also guess that each one will have its own added, and probably unique, special capability. As you suggest, Moordryd's suit may cloak him.

I think so, too. But not for some time. I think Moordryd's going to be an anti-hero for quite some time, and might occasionally help the good guys when it suits his own interests (like in "Wraith Booster").

I think Moordryd's armor will make him strong enough that Artha won't be able to fight him alone anymore. I think Kitt, Parm and Lance will have to be more involved (like they were at the end of "Artha the Drac") in the near future. But since I don't think those three will be getting their own armor right away, they won't be that powerful. So four against one won't be that lopsided, especially since Moordryd can always count on Cain to help him. So that makes it more like four against two.

The wild cards here are Armeggaddon and Rivett. It seems pretty likely that Armeggaddon has his own world domination plan, but it's unclear how long he'll team with Moordryd (or Moordryd will team with him). And we don't really know enough about Rivett yet to see what side he'll fall on, if any. He may stay true to the color gray and remain neutral. :D And Rivett's got some pretty strong gear of the his own that allowed him to easily evade Artha. So he could join either side and tilt the balance, especially since he can call Libris whenever he wants now.

I can't wait to see how "Return of Drakkus, Part 2" resolves and to see Tyrannis Pax in action! Though I don't expect this episode to air until January. <_<

Super suits of the other colors? I missed more then I thought...
Though I don't think any of arthas team will get them. Not immediatly at any rate once the amulets and gauntlets are reunited. I think for a while at least someone else will use them.
pretty sure like everyone else that Moordryd's gonna join artha but I don't think it'll be willingly. With how he operates I think someone'd have to push him into a corner first where he won't have much choice.

I wasn't referring to societal prejudices. I was referring to the difficulty she'd have in having boys of that age actually listen to her at times.

Sarah Frost - December 19, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
And why would that be inherent in a postulated society where the genders are or should under these conditions be equal?

Neemers - December 19, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
Well, maybe I'm just blowing a bit of dialogue in "The Horn of Libris' way out of proportion. As best I can remember it, the conversation went something like this:

QUOTE
Kitt: Do any of you know where the Dragon Eyes compound is?

Artha and Parm look at each other, embarrassed, but don't say anything.

Lance: Does this mean we have to follow a girl?

Artha and parm look at him, don't say anything.

Lance: Yuck. We have to follow a girl.

No matter what the society, I think everyone either considers one gender greatly superior (which I don't think is the case in Dragon City because there are female crew leaders) and/or go through the 'boys are icky, girls are yucky' phase.

Granted, but that was just Lance, and he seems to have grown out of it in regards to Kitt.

The older boys should know better, and even if they don't, Kitt seems to be quite capable of going it alone.

Besides, I'd image they'd be following Mortis' orders a lot of the time.

Sarah Frost - December 19, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
I disagree. In a society where "roles of women/men" really aren't defined as being different from the opposite gender, that sort of casual sexism has no excuse. Girls may or may not be yucky, but in DB they are quite capable of leadership.

Neemers - December 20, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
I am in no way saying that women aren't capable of leadership within or without the DB world. I'm just saying that the others in the Penn crew tend to ignore her advice. Of course they also ignore each other every once in a while and may show her less respect because she's the newbie...

Sarah Frost - December 20, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
No, but in the DB world it is (or appears to be) commonly known that women are capable and present in many leadership and high-profile positions. We haven't even seen any housewives or full-time-mothers. The only women we see onscreen are anorexic-looking Crew members, leaders, and racers. Zulay seems to have perhaps been a professional racer or daredevil--either way, if she was brave and daring she probably wasn't looking after Moordryd or dusting the Citadel all day. Parm's mother works, presumably full-time, as a teacher. Therefore, while physiological difference between the genders in this world might lead to "boys stink/girls are icky" in the playground (and that's a 'might'), there is no reason to not follow an older female friend of your brother, especially when you know she's quite skilled. As to not showing her respect because she's the newbie rather than any sexism, I'd find that more logical, however that's not the case in the particular dialogue we're discussing here (and indeed as far as I know is not actually the case).

What is actually shown on screen, of course, does not measure up to the promise of women essentially holding equal status in this world: the one main female character's gifts are eclipsed by the freeloading Destiny of the male hero, and most major players (Word, Mortis, Moordryd, Captain Faiar, the Race Marshal) are also male.

As to other societal prejudices, I've suggested before that as dragons appear to echo personality traits perhaps, similar though opposite to Pullman's daemons, a dragon of different gender to oneself might indicate something of a homosexual orientation. And it would also be logical in the DB world for racism opposite to the brand existing in our world to be present: since sunlight is analogous to prestige in the world, tans and dark skin would mark people as more high-status than the paler-skinned. (Katherine Kerr similarly wrote about a world dominated by people of Mexican/African descent in a rather fine sci-fi series, Polar City Blues, which was a refreshing change from the usual sci-fi staple of "white unless otherwise stated".) And yet Parm is a technological rather than aesthetic genius (ie. closer to 'labouring classes'), and Cain is a subordinate, while Word and Moordryd are almost albino.

My theory on The basics of Draconium colours and the Draconium suits of armor.

Ok I have been asked this question several times by people form many sits so I will put a response here and put a pointer to this site.

There were five main Draconium colours of power & balance in the Dragon-Human War. Gold, Red, Blue Green and Black. The last four are the main colour offshoots of the original pure Gold Draconium.
According to Mortis in “The Return Of Drakkus” 1&2 there are Draconium suits of armour for all five colours. There is a gauntlet and amulet of each colour that go together to make each suit. The legend speaks of these suits that are as powerful as the one that Artha has.
In order to stop a Dragon-Human War all five colours must work together. I am guessing form this point forward that the suits will go something like this:
Artha = Gold, Moordryd = Black, Parmen = green, Kitt = Red, Lance = Blue.

Well I have my own theory, Besides the fact that its pretty obvious Moordryd and Artha will get/have their own respective amulets theres just something about the fact of Kitt, Lance, and Parm getting amulets and gauntlets that dosent sit right with me

Then about a week ago I saw the rerun of "The Mechanist" and I saw Khatah Phistus and Mariannis all helping Artha and wonered if it was possible they would get the armor. Well not so much Mariannis as much as Phistus and Khatah. Besides that both Parm and Lance seem underqualified to be a member of basically "The Crew of Balance" ( made that one up myself :P ) what with Parm being scarred all the time and Lance being as young as he is.

Well that was a fun little rant... :D

BUT it seems more possible for Parm, Kitt and Lance to get the suits, though you pointed that out well.

Somehow, yes, even I can't picture them with armor.

dRagOniDe - January 5, 2006 04:42 AM (GMT)
I think that it is more possible that Lance, Kitt and Parm get an armor, cause' they're Artha's friends, and in the first Dragon-human war, the primary draconium Colors (gold,black, blue, red and green) were the ones that stopped the war..so...it's more possible, BUT I might be wrong.

Thrakos - January 5, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
i think Kitt would be a good canidate for the red armor

One-sided?! Even one-to-one is one sided if one is Dragon Booster!

They'll probably use a plot device-
Plot Device: Whizz. Hello.
-to justify uberising (Yes, I make my own words up. Uberising means turning super) the characters. Hopefully they don't become as grossly overpowered as DB, otherwise we may as well call it Sue Booster.

Nah, I think it'll just focus on what their strenthes are.

Example: Kitt and Wildfyr, speed. Lance and Fracshun, agility. And so on.

Yeah, giving Kitt, Parm and Lance super suits doesn't quite seem to fit their characters, particularly Parmon and Lance (since he's awfully young as you say). But on the other hand, Mortis has said the suits for the other three colors exist and these three characters seem to be the only likely candidates. I'm not sure if the writers would mention the existence of the other amulets/gauntlets if they didn't intend to use them. And the ancient text did say there were five colors of balance. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

yeah.i agree.i would look kinda weird for Parm,since he's kinda not that kinda guy,and lance......well.....its Lance!hes too young and wont look that good in a suit.i think he looks awesome the way he is now.
