Title: Guide Dog Stuff
ShadowCat - April 14, 2005 04:15 AM (GMT)
I had Katrina from Guide Dogs Queensland come today. I'd told her that I was interested in applying for a guide dog and she just went through everything with me and told me what I'd have to do if I did apply and what the assessment criteria is and everything.
I think I will apply, but I want to wait a while because I don't know when we're moving again and after that move, we're going to have to move again after 12 months, so I'd hate to get a dog and only have it home with me for a month then have to move! It wouldn't be good for me or the dog.
I'm definitely going to apply, but I'll probably have to wait a year or more, and I might not be able to get a dog at all, depending on the assessment stuff, but I think I'll do okay. And if I pass the assessment stuff, I'll have to wait a while for a suitable dog.
At least I know I've got a chance at getting one now. I'll just see how things go!

Oh, that's nice. :) Hope you get one.
LightningFlash - April 14, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
Yeah.
Dorkily enough, I saw a Guide Dog representative lady and grinned at her today, thinking of you.

I think I'll just wait until we move again and then apply, because if they find a good dog for me and I know we're going to be moving, I can just say no. It'll just mean I'll have to wait longer.
It's just that I'm kind of a bit nervous about it. What if they say I can't have a dog? I could just wait a while and try again.
LightningFlash - April 16, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
If they say you can't have a dog, you'll be no worse off than you are now. You just won't have a dog.
ShadowCat - April 16, 2005 03:08 AM (GMT)
I know. It's just that I really want a dog! It would make my life a lot easier. I'd be able to go out on my own more and I'd be a lot more confident in places I don't know very well. I can't tell you what it's like walking into a shop and suddenly realising that you have no idea where to go! You don't know where people are or where the counter is or anything! It's easy in supermarkets, but in really small shops it's not.
LightningFlash - April 16, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
And here comes the embarassing part where I admit I get lost in supermarkets. All the time.
ShadowCat - April 16, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
I hate it, especially when people I'm with forget that I can't see where they are and run off on me leaving me with no idea where they are! It's extremely annoying. The least they could do is tell me where they're going.
LightningFlash - April 16, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
I don't like shopping, anyway. Knowing where you're going doesn't make it any more enjoyable.
ShadowCat - April 16, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
I don't like shopping much either, especially since I'm trying to save money!
Natalilly - April 16, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
You need gay men then, they're great for motivatinal shopping!
*falls over* i thought shopping was part of the female genetic code, I'm a verocious shopper, but not really a normal shopper, per say. nevermind, when you start earning more money it'll become fun. ;) promise.
And a guide dog sounds cool! They're so adorable. Don't worry, my friends run off on me all the time in shopping centres. perhaps it's the singing that does it...
Sarah Frost - April 16, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
Unless it's for books, I loathe shopping with a passion. Still genetically female as far as I know, though. :P

Yes, I tend to disappear to either the book or music store on shopping trips. The only safe place to be in town when you're with your mother/sisters.
ShadowCat - April 17, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
I usually go looking for music shops or clothes shops. I hate clothes shopping with my mother, though. We just don't have the same taste in clothes!
Natalilly - April 17, 2005 06:30 AM (GMT)
Oh no no, shopping with parents is bad and usually as not fun as you can make it. I don't mind clothes- but I'm not a huge fan, I'm happier doing it on my own, so i don't feel I'm boring anyone.
comic stores are in danger of me, luckily there's only one I can think of. Acessory stores, socka nd underwear areas of stores and toy shops are my faves, I USED to be book and music store mad too, but I get bored, they never have anything new.
LightningFlash - April 17, 2005 07:48 AM (GMT)
You don't have Sanity stores? I managed buy a new CD each time I went in there over the past month.
hyperpsychomaniac - April 17, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
I like shopping but I can never find anything I like. I walk into a clothes shop and the whole wall is covered in stuff that's either pink or that really horrible mint green. <_< And the book shops never have anything new, you're better off at the library.
Natalilly - April 17, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
Yes, but Sanity is so very badly mainstream only, they're terribly limited and my music tastes vary from Queen, live, Alanis Morrisette and other big names to people like Wendy rule and Enter the Haggis, adn Mad Caddies. Obscure bands- the Italian metal band, Rhapsody, for example. I prefer JB Hi Fi, MUCH bigger selection!
LightningFlash - April 17, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
Odd, Sanity down here has a great range. And you can always order.
Okay, okay. My parents treat the manager and her horses. That, and my multiple CD buying habits, makes me a good customer.
ShadowCat - April 19, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
We have a really lousy CD shop here. I don't know what it's called, but it's shocking. They have hardly anything!
