Title: Dragon Winds Crew - White Dragon

The Furox - November 26, 2005 07:47 AM (GMT)
This is what they show for the Dragon Winds crew. Not a very complete picture of the dragon and we don't get to see the rider either. Better than nothing, I guess.

That's a really interesting looking dragon. I don't think any of the other dragon's seem to have a head shaped like that. I'm guessing it's supposed to be aerodynamic :D Too bad we can't see more... I'd like to see if it's got anymore fins and stuff sticking off it...

the power of ICE - November 26, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
I thought they looked different from that, BUT I've confirmed that their quadripedal.

I KNEW IT!!!!!!

Yeah, really. If the character designer was thinking in terms of aerodynamics (as opposed to just what would look neat) then I would guess the fins on its head would act as a vertical stabilizer for soaring (though technically, it would work better on the tail). There should be a horizontal stabilizer as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if its got a broad, flat tail or horizontal fins off its tail.

So how on earth does this guy eat? :P With those fins, he could never dip his head into a trough. Unless he can fold them back the way Beau does with his frills. Hmm.

the power of ICE - November 26, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
The fins on his head reminds me of the movie rocketman!

He moves his head to one side or the other so steer in mid air. :P

We could put together a guide of out own in the reference section. I've done that kind of thing before for character stats on another site. What we don't know we could guesstimate or leave out.

I put a ton of direct links at the top in alphabetical order, so everything could be found quickly.

How's this for a quick make-up:

Maybe he's got a long tongue and laps it up like a dog does water?

Daigerus - November 26, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
Wow, that is an altogether different design there, with those fins sticking out and all. The saddle looks quite different as well.

And yes, I too wonder of his eating habits. Maybe since he (or she) is attrbuted with air, maybe all he (or she) does is suck it up like a vacuum - though I already speculated about Libris doing the vacuuming as well. Who knows? Maybe he had a deeper trough. ;)

Also, I can't tell if it's really bipedal or quadripedal with that smaller paw, since it could be farther from the viewer or really small in comparison to the bigger paw.

I've had this very thing planned for the dragon-city.org web site from the start, but I just haven't had time to write it all. I've just got a very brief start here:

Artha's Friends, Allies, and Enemies

I haven't done it yet, but I planned there to be a table of stats for each character much like you suggest, and of course lots of images.

I would greatly appreciate help in filling this page out. A couple of people have already volunteered to provide some pieces. The more help the better!

I'll probably post something here. Feel free to copy and paste wholesale off of whatever I do.

I'm pretty sure he's a quadruped. All the bipedal dragons seem to have three "fingers" and always stand with their "hands" curled up like a praying mantis. This guy's got four toes and his feet are spread out like he's standing on them. It'd be nice if the picture wasn't cropped. He's apparently got a pattern on his skin and I'd like to see what it looks like.

Oh, and the book also says Wyldfyr is a "she" and Fracshun is a "he" which confirms what we thought.

Well, that's a neat and interesting looking dragon! I wouldn't say cute, exactly, but it has a very, very intriguing design! :)

What? No Chute? Oh yeah...the ULTIMATE Dragon Booster scrapbook... :P

Ditto! Now that's confirmed, I don't have to be afraid of mistaking their identities when I get inspired with a fanfic/fanart of my own. :D

Thanks for the info, Furox. :)

I agree, maybe the head fins are meant to feel the air currents and adjust whatever they're doing in mid-air accordingly.

Take a look at this. This dragon, which appears in the Horn of Libris episode looks exactly like that White Dragon.....odd..... if you look closely you can see the 'fins' on it's head and the stripes on its neck.

White dragon?

Neemers - December 17, 2005 07:35 PM (GMT)
Isn't that Katah being magged, though? That would mean the dragon is a blue dragon. The mag burst looks a little bluish to me, too.

the power of ICE - December 17, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure thats Shock-Ra. Notice the blue mag?

And in that Ep, they really only have 3 main crew's racing in it, Beau with Artha and Kitt, Decepshun with Cain and Moordryd, and Shock-Ra with Katah and the other guy. (can never remember his name <_< )

Oh, and look at the posture on the magged person.

Thats like Katah's signature.

You found a goof!

I have that card in my collection and it is clearly a white dragon even though it's supposed to be either Khatah's dragon Shock-Ra or Sarjo's dragon Shuko (I can't really tell those two apart). I scanned the card to enlarge the dragon and it's unmistakable:

user posted image

The interesting thing is that I went back and checked the episode and that dragon doesn't appear in the shot corresponding to the card (the card images are supposed to be screenshots from the show). If you watch this scene in the episode, it's Shock-Ra there. But, if you go back to the start of the race, Khatah and Sarjo are clearly seen riding this white dragon for a few brief seconds when they're leaving the starting gate.

So it looks like someone goofed and put the wrong dragon in the shot. At some point they noticed the mistake and went back and fixed this one shot, but not before the footage had been given to Score to make the trading cards. But then they decided not to fix the dragon at the start of the race (or didn't notice it).

That's kind of cool. Now we know a little more about what a white dragon looks like. Sharp eye, Shadow Dragon!

the power of ICE - December 17, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
I like the colouring on em'. And now that I have a full body shot of one, the fins on it's head match the rest of it's body.

*new white dragon fan :D *

WHOA!!!

Look at the tail!!!! It looks like a rudder on a plane!!!

Shadow Dragon - December 17, 2005 10:20 PM (GMT)
I really like how the white dragons are. I'm going to have to draw one of theese white dragons now. They look awesome!

hyperpsychomaniac - December 18, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
Hmm... does look similar... the card says something about blue, but that doesn't look like a blue dragon to me. Also, the colour of the mag energy appears to be white (but unfortunately it's making it harder to see the dragon... <_< )

I'd say that is a white dragon. :D I like it's tail. Probably gets most of it's steering from there, and would probably also stabalise it.

Airshadow - December 18, 2005 06:58 AM (GMT)
Furox

when did you get the pic of Chute and her dragon?

The Furox - December 18, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
You mean the first picture at the top of this thread? Same place I got the picture of Gunny. It's a scan out of the "Ultimate Dragon Booster Scrapbook" I bought.

Hunter - January 25, 2006 06:00 AM (GMT)
oh my goodness. :o how would that guy eat?!?!? they probably pour it down, just kidding :P but that dragon looks drac B) ....and interesting.

The Furox - January 25, 2006 06:08 AM (GMT)
Yeah, those head fins look like they'd be in the way. I don't think evolution would allow for something like that. Unless, of course, the fins are articulated and he can fold them back when he wants.

Cepheus - January 27, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
There was a white dragon racing in the Choosing Part 2. We never get a good look at it, but I could see the giant fins on it. Maybe they have some specialized way to drink?

Aviashun - January 27, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
I believe I have seen a few dragons throughout the series which fit this appearance (Most Recently, I remember seeing one in Faster than fear); general shape and plane like rudders on tail etc., although I can't say I got a good enough look at them to see if they had sails...

I think they're used as vertical stabilisers, maybe even like a pair of ailerons?- perhaps for greater control of roll while in flight, since we know/ can assume from the information available that they are highly skilled in aerobatics...

The Furox - January 27, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
Yes, that's what I thought. A vertical stabilizer would make sense and I'm pretty certain that's what the character designer had in mind when this character was created. Looks cool anyway. B)

Beau/Wyldfyr shippers now plot in earnest.

I read a book about pterosaurs (flying reptiles, also known as pterodactyls) that had one bit about making a model flying Ramphorynchus. Ramphorynchus had a rudder on its tail, we know from fossils, but which way was it positioned? Horizontal or vertical? So thus they built a flying model in which the tail rudder could be freely adjusted. It turned out that the horizontal tail rudder was the apparently correct one, as the vertical tail ruder caused it to crash.

So, shouldn't it have its fins poking out to the sides?

Yes, indeed. That's why bird's have horizontal tail feathers and not vertical ones.

Well, actually he needs wings, too. :D Assuming they mag on aero gear to provide wings and a horizontal stabilizer, that leaves open the question of how these dragons evolved vertical stabilizers without first evolving wings. :D

Maybe the ancestors of white dragons lived in windy upland areas, and thus they were bred/they adapted to their windy environment with stabilisers.

Writing a fanfic about winged dragons seems more plausible by the minute.

Cepheus - January 29, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
Maybe they got so used to using white aero that they grew stabalizers to make gliding with the gear easier?

Nemi the Nen - January 30, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
Beau was bred from all dragon colors, and he has those side fins so he can glide/fly (I hold he uses them to shape a mag feild, cause otherwise they wouldn't work)

So maybe White dragons had those too, though more like their head fins than spiney like Beau's.

The Furox - February 2, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
I just noticed there's another trading card with the white dragon on it. It's another mistake like the other. The scene they show is from "Horn of Libris" where Khatah and Sarjo are supposed to be on Shock-Ra, but like the other card, they're riding a white dragon instead:

I scanned the card and enlarged it so we could get a better look:

Definitely one of the odder looking dragons.

Aviashun - February 3, 2006 11:06 AM (GMT)
That's a nice find, love the white dragon design- I'm eagerly awaiting some information on what the riders look like, attire etc... Also I had an odd dream last night, which has led me to ask out of curiosity;

Where do you think the Dragon Winds Crew are 'located' both in the city and the class system? Would it be apt if they were located higher up in the city and class? Could that explain why they haven't made an appearance ((Apart from the odd random white dragons, unless I've missed something because we're not very far into the series in Wales)) yet?...

Mari - February 5, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
I noticed the mistake a few months ago... I just couldn't get on and post it... :( <_< :( :(

And here's a pic of another white dragon we've seen alot:
err.. I'll post it when I find it. <_<
