Title: Deviantart Headache...
Description: popups...

I don't have paypal, a credit card, or pretty much any way to pay for anything over the internet. but sometimes, i really wish i did. like with deviantart. I'd pay the subscription fee just to get those damn adds to go away, when i probably wouldn't pay for just about anything else on the internet. Why, you ask?

The banner adds.

THose things are the bane of my existance. normally, they just sit in the background and do absolutely nothing, but lately? they keep scaring me half to death by suddenly rerouting me to some kind of fake antispyware website claiming to tell me my computer is allready infected and i need to let them do a free scan of my computer by clicking on something.

I've done that before. it's a lousy malware fake-out, every time.

With how huge Deviantart is, i can see why they need the banner ads to keep the place running with all the non-subscribing visitors and artists on there, but geeze, can't they do a little research into who's paying to put up the ads? i just wanna go there to browse art and stories, not get my computer infected! <_<

hate to double post, but now i'm really P.O.ed at DA.

I log onto there for less than a minute on my parent's 'supposedly' better protected computer, and what happens? IT GETS INFECTED WITH MALWARE! AAAAAAAARGH!

Do you mean pop-ups? My anitivirus blocks those, so the only ads I get on DA are the ones on the page itself, and they never reroute me to any site. Do you have any antivirus?

theirs does. my mom's now trying to use norton to try and fix it, but, sheesh...

I've got Kapersky, I kinda like it better than Norton. :P I got malware on my computer last year or so, and Kapersky either couldn't find it, or couldn't delete it. So I downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and used that. It found the malware and got rid of it quickly, something Kapersky couldn't do. :D

If you don't want pop-ups, I've found that Firefox's built-in pop-up blocker is very effective.

If you're trying to get rid of malware, I've found that using Malwarebite's Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware together can get rid of just about anything. SUPERAntiSpyware also runs in the background as an antivirus firewall.

I've sorted out a fair few computers with either virus's or spyware/mailware and i would say to download Malewarebite and do a full scan. (it's free)

Then it's up to you what browser you prefer but on top of my list is Firefox as it is still very secure against attacks etc.( this is just my personal opinion)

Then if using Firefox, goto add-ons in the menu and search for Adblock Plus, install it and when prompted, click on any of the pre-made lists that someone has made for it which will block tonnes of popups and ads.

If you find a new add/pop-up, it's then simple to block it by just right clicking on it and selecting block, Done.

Just my 2 pennies.

This is why I use a Mac. :) No viruses and hardly any malware (and the only way to get malware is to intentionally download and install something that contains it, so if you don't download from shady sites, then you're safe). And the pop-up blocker in Safari is very effective.

My computer just works.

well, that's finaly done with. my parent's computer is fixed (mostly, it's still running kinda slow) and my friend gave me a premium membership at DA for the next few months, so i can actually go there safely now.

I'll probably be getting back to the fanfic in a day or so, (YAY!) been dealing with that till now. see ya all in a bit!
