Title: Something I've Noticed About The Forum...
Description: People say things that get on my nerves
Draco - August 12, 2009 04:50 AM (GMT)
Is it just me or do most Dragon Booster fans on here bash the characters and/or the show in general? O.o
I've been reading the Dragon Booster TV Discussions (Episode discussions) and I here a ton of things such as this (please note these aren't directed to anyone in particular from anyone's posts):
"Kitt is useless in an episode AGAIN! The characters in the show are being sexist!"
"Artha is a jerk with an egotistic personality."
"Innumerable plot holes."
"The dragons need to interact more in the show!"
And many others I can't seem to think of right now. I mean... what's wrong here? I kinda thought we liked this show.
Yeah, the show has it's ups and downs, but keep in mind this show is focused on younger viewers (6-12 possibly?). The creators don't expect us to pin-point what should happen or what went wrong, or the plot holes for that matter.
I see certain DB fans that tend to bash the characters for their wrong doing in certain episodes, and it gets on my nerves that they rant and rant about something that has happened in that episode when it's really not a huge deal.
Kitt, for example. People wonder why the heck she's with the PRC. Maybe because she wants to help Artha, maybe? 'Cause she cares about NOT starting a DHW? Probably because she's friends with them? They're reasonable options, so why are some starting to not approve of that? Generally Kitt is kind of useless, I have to admit to those who mention it. She really doesn't have a ton of parts in the show, but I think she plays important roles. Basically she's here during the show to help the Dragon Booster and help out her friends. Later in the series she's probably going to kick some ass with the other Boosters by becoming Fire Booster ;) Just be patient, people. More exciting things might come if the show continues.
Okay. Artha... A lot of people dislike him. Why? Because he can be arrogant, selfish, self-centered, or all of the above. But think about this... He's suddenly given this 'save the world' jazz and has total responsibility of the safety of Dragon City all in one day. You'd be a little overwhelmed, too, wouldn't you? And usually the hero of the show that is given great responsibility makes LOTS of mistakes, and this is what Artha seems to do on a daily basis. But we all go through that sort of thing, and making mistakes is apart of life. Artha making these mistakes causes him to learn from them, and it would help him with other situations he has to face as the Dragon Booster. So, could you people, like, cut with the Artha Bashing? Possibly just cut down on it? In my eyes you're faulting him for making mistakes that are easily made for the teenage mindset. No one is perfect, so cut it out. We're almost in season 4 and those were past episodes. He will eventually quit being arrogant and learn to become a better Dragon Booster. So, there. Go ahead and bash me just because I decided to stand up and say something -.-
A lot of people complain about plot holes and how there are occasional occurrences when you feel like something is missing, or if there's some sort of scene that should have been covered. Well, um, why are you worrying about that? Don't you focus on the story itself? Yeah, I know, you're wondering how something could have happened when the next scene comes around. It happens all the time, including movies. I think about it occasionally, but I just don't thoroughly overlook it. I'm not faulting people for this, because everyone has noticed it.
I personally support this, but DB fans argue about how the dragons barely have a role in the story besides Beau and Propheci. I know that it totally sucks that the dragons don't have any mind at all and just stand there to look all prettyfulz. But, hey, maybe they'll get a better role in the series? I can't really pin-point on what they'll do about the dragons, but hopefully someday they'll get an episode to themselves
Generally I'm writing this because people seem to be focusing more on what the characters do and act and less about the reason to WHY we like this show. We like it because it's completely BADASS and beats all the other crappy shows that show on Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Nick, and the new Disney XD, which replaced Toon Disney *shudders* I love the show for it's unique style, story, and characters, and I don't think about what is unpredictable. I watch it just for the enjoyment of it all, because I like it as a whole.
That's my rant about the ranting. Good Day to you all *prepares for ultimate army of flames*

I personally loved the story too. It has given me wonderful dreams about dragons. I am viewing dragons differently now. Imagine if we can ride dragons in our world? It would be awesome.
I am loving the show too, and I have made many oc characters out of the show's characters, mostly from the main dragons. For example, from Beau, Decepshun, Coershun, and Luutt, best seen in the ep "Wraith Booster.")
Flames against you? Not from me. I give you :cookie: :cookie: for your bravery to speak up. I must admit I am not brave enough to speak up, though I should speak up.
If the others are not happy about the DB characters, they should try making their own shows with their own characters, and put it on tv. See how they like it.
Cain - August 12, 2009 01:50 PM (GMT)
You are right, Draco. I do not understand why people would want to bash the characters. I have no desire to bash Cain, even though he can be a coward at times. In "Three Times a Hero", he got on my nerves. But I noted the episode's funny moments. It was meant to be funny, and I did find it funny.
The show has its light moments and its dark moments. The funny parts and the serious parts. I loved the cartoon as a whole. Draco, you will not be getting flames from me. I am no copper, but still, I was not brave enough to speak up. You were bold enough, and I said, "Well done."
Like Arthapenn, you have my support. Let's see what Furox would say about this. He is the most senior member on the forum, and I am sure he will not 'fire' you. ;)
Seriously, you are right about the things you have said.
Draco - August 12, 2009 02:44 PM (GMT)
Thank you Arthapenn and Cain :) Glad someone sees it my way as well ^_^
And yes, hopefully Furox has some sense into this, because I'd like to hear from some of the senior members and see what they think about my options. I expect flames and spam from them, not from you guys ;) lol 'Fire me'? I don't think he'll fire me for speaking for myself... er... I hope o.o
And yeah let's see them make their own DB show and bash their characters!! :bblast::gblast:  jk
OMG COOKIES!!!! :D SQUEE!!!! *grabs cookies* nomnomnom :P
Thanx again :)
Arthapenn - August 12, 2009 02:49 PM (GMT)
You are welcome, Draco. Try not to go overboard.

With what, the cookies? Or is it about this rant? :P
Arthapenn - August 12, 2009 03:07 PM (GMT)
The rant. I am glad you like the cookies. Keep the rant in one place, such as this topic.

Oh, I will, don't worry :) I'm not going to say it to anyone else, just in this topic. That would be quite rude :P No one wants to hear ranting.

very well put
i never really looked much at the episode discussions, but i have seen the character bashing around here. i usually left the bashing as people's own opinions
but here's a cookie for voicing your opinion about it :cookie:
Liliwen - August 12, 2009 09:33 PM (GMT)
People on here bash aspects of the show, not members, so I think you're safe there. ;) I hope so anyway, I always thought of this forum as polite and helpful.
I bash Artha, or used to. I remember just coming onto this forum and ranting about him, because it's easy to rant about something you dislike, and I think the main reason people rant about the characters and plot holes and such of the series is because we like it so much, we want it to be perfect. And we each have our own view of what that is and sometimes it coincides with each others opinions and sometimes it doesn't. I also remember someone posted a topic that asked us to say what we liked about the show instead of what we disliked, because up till that time, we may have been overly negative about the show. I don't think that thread will ever be as long than if someone made a thread soley for bashing. It doesn't mean we don't like DB, it just means we like it too much. If you like something so much, and then something comes along in it that you dislike and/or bothers you and pops up in more than one episode, then it's easier to rant about it than to write a long post about what you enjoyed. Ranting helps you blow of steam, I suppose. :D
And since we're fans of the show, we're supposed to talk about it in depth (whether or not the creators wanted or intended us to), and eventually what we talk about concerns what we dislike, and since it's easy to rant, especially if others agree with you, it pops up more. Everyone on this forum loves the show. No matter what fandom you're in, there's going to be bashing and flaming. There may seem to be a lot of that on here, but there's also alot of good stuff about the show too.
I used to bash Artha and in general hate him when I first joined. Not anymore, because I suppose other posts on here may have convinced me that he wasn't that bad, and I learned to live with him. Now I guess I don't really bash or flame him, but I will talk more negatively about him than Moordryd because I like Moordryd better. Artha is arrogant, and I don't really like arrogant people, and thus, I don't like Artha as much as Moordyrd. Moordryd's arrogant too, but he's an interesting character. What bugs me about Artha right now is his specialness and super powers. I just feel like he's too special, and since we're a fandom that loves DB, we talk about everything we can think of. Some days I feel like bashing him, and some days I don't and actually like him. If you dislike any character or thing on a show, which everyone does since no show is perfect, you'll write about it and talk about it. Just because you're talking negatively about a point of the show isn't bashing, it hopefully should just be discussion about something you don't like. But since we're so in love with DB, we get too involved and can start bashing.
We just wish DB was perfect and too often forget that it's supposed to be for kids instead of the higher rating we're probably comparing it to. So alot of the characters and plots we dislike fit right in with the age demographic DB is made for, but don't fit into the age demographic we wish it was made for, eg. teens and older. We just forget that and rant. Does this forum rant too much? Possibly, but there's other fandoms that rant just as much. No one hates DB, we just love it too much.

Yeah, I see what you mean about loving the show so much that you just rant about it. It's like picking on your favorite movie because you love it so much, which is why we have many spoofs on Youtube ;)
And Artha being too special? That I have to agree with :P I think he might have learned the mag moves and his overall skills too quickly. Throughout the whole series he's learned something super fantastic and it only took him, what, a few days? But, then again, that's what the creators indended on doing... I think. I don't like arrogant people either, but in a TV show focused for younger viewers, they don't expect us to rant and complain about how Artha is being a jerk X3 And I'm not some sort of "Artha Supporter", if you may call it that (I like both Moordryd and Artha equally, because they are both good characters in my option). If a character is being bashed for certain reasons, then it would be appropriate for me to say that once is enough. That's how I kind of felt with the whole thing, because I hear it all the time.
Moordryd is a very interesting character indeed, and I started to like him a little more now that I'm less naive then I was when I first started watching this show when I was like 10. I thought he was kind of a jerk, then I saw how much he struggles in his life and how he was a helpful character and grew to like him for that :) And I think it's funny as hell when he rebels against his daddy dearest
And obviously no one on here hates DB, because if they did then they wouldn't be on this forum! :D

I felt like replying to this one too, as one of the critical people being complained about. First off: the violation of
Ebert's Law. I don't have to try making my own television show to deserve to have an opinion, much like I don't have to run for office to vote in my next election. The makers of the show in all likelihood couldn't care less what one or two critical reviews say, and even if they did, they made a product they were trying to sell and they should take criticism from their customers like adults.
Secondly, a confession: I
do not like the show. Nowadays there are many, many things I would much rather do with my time than rewatch it. Here's why, on a personal level, I spent time around here: I started watching the show because LightningFlash and some of my other friends from the Ace Lightning fandom liked it. I wasn't so impressed with it, but at the beginning hoped for it to improve. Then I joined the board, met some more interesting people here, and started posting my critical comments. After all, this was a discussion forum, not a Anyone Criticizing DB Is A Traitor forum. I stayed because of friends here, and because I am a chronic procrastinator. These days I look back and regret spending so much time on something I actively dislike, but I still remember it being fun at the time. I *am* one of those people who enjoys sarcastic commentary and in-depth critical discussion (these things tend to be more substantive than one-sentence appreciation), and Dragon Booster offered me a target roughly the size of the broad side of a barn. People like you didn't like what I had to say, but others didn't raise objections. We've all a right to our opinions, but when discussion veers into 'I wish you wouldn't express your opinions' rather than 'I disagree with your opinions' I think that's a problem.
Thirdly, I've remembered the existence of two things I wrote quite a long time ago and never posted; I have inserted possibly the last two topics of
critical discussion from Sarah Frost. Certain people on this topic should obviously not read. ^_^

I just knew you were going to comment on this eventually XD I just knew it!
And really, you never liked the show? O.o Somehow that still confuses me. I now know you joined for friends, but the fact that you didn't even like DB in the first place makes me sad...
And I didn't intentionally point fingers at you for the criticism. I've seen a few other members start saying some bad things about the show, and after reading enough of them I decided to post this. I hope I didn't make you upset if I blamed all the criticism on you. I was really talking about how most people tend to bash the show/characters in general, not about someone in particular. If I offended you then I'm sorry :( I'm going to have to be more specific if I want to discuss things like this.
lol I thought you were going to like totally flame me after reading this. I just had that feeling someone was going to hate me for doing this.

I think they should get an eppie to themselfs. That would be VERY interesting. They could do the voices like they did on the pokemon eppisode: "Island of the gaint pokemon" *Coughsubtitlescough*
