Title: Druming Up Db Excitement!!
Description: YYAAAAAAYYY!!!

silverfang - July 2, 2009 09:13 PM (GMT)
we need to do something to drum up more intrest in DB again. it seems to have sadly slown down. :(

The Furox - July 3, 2009 06:03 AM (GMT)
Got any ideas? :)

The slow down in interest is pretty much to be expected. It's been two and half years since the last new episode was aired so we're kind of running out of things to talk about. We could do more Q&A with Rob, but interest in that seems to be waning as well.

I'd like things to be more active here myself since I still really like the show, but I don't know how to get others interested in participating more. Having more episodes would be a huge boost of course, but those aren't going to come anytime soon. It would have been cool if the show had become popular enough to organize a fan convention, but there aren't enough of us and we're too spread out across the globe for that to work.

For myself, I have another fan fiction in progress and I'm planning on making another music video soon. But those are solo projects.

If anyone has ideas, please share them. ;)

silverfang - July 3, 2009 07:22 PM (GMT)
we could have a db:a teaser trailer contest and post them all on youtube. :D

Liliwen - July 3, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
That'd be fun. And I can't think of anything else right now besides more contests. :plot:

Skulderian - July 4, 2009 05:57 AM (GMT)
well, the only thing i can do is continue writing my fanfics. which, i've paused on, trying to allow renesh to catch up to me with the beta-reading, but she's not logged onto this forum for two months now.

I'm worried.

desperada - July 5, 2009 02:31 PM (GMT)
probably, sadly, if just for the fans to keep the faith and keep the fan sites alive maybe my is still running but it too is dying since people are loosing the DB craze. I however shall not give up, though my episode 40 in a nutshell was a fwap since no one posted a comment on it :( oh well i tried

silverfang - July 5, 2009 06:26 PM (GMT)
How about we make a site that enables all to watch DB from begging to end online with little hassel?

Skulderian - July 5, 2009 09:59 PM (GMT)
i'm fairly certain THAT'S illegal.

arrow - July 5, 2009 10:39 PM (GMT)
not unless you get permission ;)

i'm occasionally downloading db eps of off youtube, so i might just start making music videos with those

i already got an idea for an Alchemist teaser trailer :D

IbanezJFS - July 8, 2009 03:58 AM (GMT)
We should do something. We just hit 10,000 signatures for our petition. I nominate we hold a contest. Complete with prizes. I have a bunch of left over Dragon Booster traiding cards left over from this huge package of booster packs i bought on Ebay. We can hold some sort of art contest, maybe even a fan fiction contest, or a sound alike contest. To see who can sound the most like a character from the show. It might also be good if we can do a Q&A from some one else who worked on the show. But 1 idea I always had in the back of my head. Was to see if we can get Rob to do a commentary track for a few episodes.

The way I think we can do that is. Have Rob watch an episode and record his voice on a file track. Then we can download it and play it while we watch the episode he is commentating on either on youtube or DVD while listening to the commentary track. Or lets make it even easier. Lets have him turn it into a podcast. What do you think? It never hurts to ask.

arrow - July 8, 2009 11:29 PM (GMT)
we could do a youtube contest

gotta think of something :cookie:

IbanezJFS - July 11, 2009 02:04 AM (GMT)
Im still up for asking Rob to do a commentary track for the first 4 episodes from the series and release them on a podcast. Because it can give us more of an in-depth look of the writing of the show and maybe let us on some scenes that were cut out. Of course we would have to ask Rob if he is up to it. But like I said before. It never hurts to ask.

Mari - July 13, 2009 12:36 AM (GMT)
The reason I haven't been around is because I have been eaten alive by college. :( That, and my general interest in the internet waned quite a bit; I've vanished from just about everything (except Facebook, which I use mostly for schoolwork anyway).

Hmm... as for generating excitement... There has to be SOMETHING to do. Oooh! I have an idea! It goes along with the letter-writing campaign somewhat. I could type up a letter and have a list of reasons why DB should be shown again (ex- character development, fascinating universe, etc) with check boxes. People could print off the letter, check which ones they like, sign the letter (in pen), include where they live, age and gender, and then mail it off to some networks. I vote having the admin mass E-mailing EVERYBODY on the board and sending this letter. One of the BIG points as to why DB should be shown is its wide audience; we have people who are in middle school, high school, college and even people who've graduated (or not) and are working! Plus it's all around the world and is interesting to both boys and girls. An attached sheet would have addresses of several networks (ABC, Cartoon Network, etc) that, for extremely lazy people, be printed off, cut out, and stuck onto the front of the envelope.

Just brainstorming and typing aloud. I haven't actually thought about this, and I'm typing as I think more up, so it might sound a bit weird.

But I do think that the mass emailing might work a little bit. It would grab the attention of people who have have forgotten the board and/or have been too busy for it.

Also, buying any and all DB merchandise you find would probably help. You know how companies are about selling stuff and making money off of shows.

What do you guys think? About the letter idea, I mean.

silverfang - July 13, 2009 05:45 AM (GMT)
Actually...I rally do like the sound of that letter idea. That way there's no excuse for those like me who are exceptionally...ahem...lazy.

Mari - July 13, 2009 04:58 PM (GMT)
That's the idea. I can say quite confidently that lots of people didn't send letters because they were too lazy to write one up. This way, all they have to do is print the letter, sign their name, write their age, gender and location, check which things they liked best about the show, stuff the letter in an envelope, cut out one of the networks' addresses, stick that onto the envelope, then mail the letter off!

*print
*write personal info
*check boxes
*mail

Then all the lazy people have no excuse! And those who only half-heartedly liked the show (but still liked it well enough to join this board) can send letters that they never would have wanted to/thought of/written! I have good ideas sometimes. :D

I almost have the letter written up. It sounds nice and professional, but it's still in plain, simple English. I've included statistics regarding DB's popularity (it's on 6 continents, in 13 countries THAT WE KNOW OF, it's got a wide age range, it appeals to boys and girls, and it's been translated into 3 other languages THAT WE KNOW OF). I've also thrown in that DB has great market potential, but only if it's advertised enough. The statistics from the board have added some weight to my arguments. :)

I'm trying to get the Country Count topic started up again so we can, hopefully, add more known countries to the list. Saying that DB has been shown in 13 countries is all very fine and good, but what if we could say 15 or 20 countries?! That would add so much oomph to our statements.... :plot: :cookie:

arrow - July 14, 2009 12:34 AM (GMT)
oooh.....that's such a good idea

i bet there is at least 20 countries that have shown this

silverfang - July 14, 2009 04:08 AM (GMT)
no doubt. now all we need is a hook. a closing sentence that they can't ignore and i mean in the good way. got a cookie anyone? :cookie:

BlueBooster - July 23, 2009 03:47 PM (GMT)
Ive e-mailed whom i can i'll send a letter to cbbc also ive contacted jetix and toonattik by e-mail mabye we'll get some results cbbc might broadcast they already have one of nerd corps productions called 'league of super evil' so they might take a fancy for DB achademy too ^^

IbanezJFS - July 25, 2009 12:48 AM (GMT)
We have that show here in states as well. It's on Cartoon Network and, I already have said that DB should belong at Cartoon Network. Or 4KidsTV that company goes all out to promote their shows.

Mari - August 21, 2009 09:15 PM (GMT)
Ooooooooo, good point, BlueBooster! That may help sell the idea of Academy. Here's to hoping.

And, to help our point, I have found, on the DB Wikipedia page, that DB has definitely been aired in Italy (and that means it'll have been translated into Italian!), Brazil, and, get this, JAPAN!!! So it's been translated into Japanese!!!

I'm finishing up the last bit of the letter now. All people have to do is PRINT it off, WRITE your personal info, CHECK the boxes, SIGN your signature, and MAIL it off!

I'll stick the letter here on the board, then link to the actual document that I'll upload on some sort of sharing site (MegaUpload?).

EDIT: I just found a French site for Dragon Booster! Here it is!! It has some seriously amazing graphics, like background views (without people in them!) from around Dragon City (including the outlines of the generic buildings that were used in the city backgrounds), and the same pictures we see... err, saw... on the original website with a few new ones, like Ferno (though he's labelled as Sparkks)! AWESOMENESS!!!!!!

Draco - August 21, 2009 09:56 PM (GMT)
IGNORE THIS. I misunderstood what this person was talking about :P I thought this person was saying that Dragon Booster was still airing in the states and I didn't know about it.

Makes me feel lucky that CBC is still airing it here in Canada. :D I wonder how long that will last.

La Chute Du Dragon - 4700
La Tir Du Dragon - 261
Shoot'Dragon - 2800

Slight boredom. But I found those games on the website kinda fun. Though I have to wonder, why is the Dragon Booster shooting the DCS in La Tir Du Dragon? ^_^

Kids. So easily entertained. Well, I'm glad that I found a really cool new site for us to play around on!

Anyway, here's what I've got for the letter. Any suggestions for anything before I host the document online?

Name: Age: Location: Male Female

Dear networks;
Over the past year or so, I have noticed a sharp decline in one of my favorite TV shows—Dragon Booster. After a 3 season run and 36 episodes later, Dragon Booster seems to have fizzled out, which it should not have. Not enough attention was drawn to Dragon Booster, and thus it has failed to reach its full potential. I believe that Dragon Booster, and particularly the planned Dragon Booster Academy series, could become an insanely popular series, but only if it gets the attention it needs.

Dragon Booster has extraordinary potential for marketability. It has been translated into several different languages and has been shown on nearly every continent. The largest online Dragon Booster community, the Dragon Booster Discussion Board, has members from every continent, barring Antarctica. There are members from at least 13 different countries, and Dragon Booster is known to have been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Japanese. There are members aging from preteen (12 and 13) up to adult (26).

The Discussion Board, which can be found at http://z10.invisionfree.com/Dragon_Booster/ , also began an online petition which can be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/DBFans/petition.html This petition has over 10,000 signatures, with people from at least 15 different countries.

I have compiled a list of reasons why Dragon Booster has such marketing potential, and checked the ones that I believe the most compelling.

0 Dragon Booster, unlike most child-oriented series, has a complicated, interwoven plot.
0 The plot is progressive, and little things from previous episodes crop up in later ones; in addition, there is a larger story that began in the third season and is to continue in Academy.
0 There are many mini-plots within the series itself, such as Rivett and the Horn of Libris, the Prophets trying to take over, and the Keepers coming out of seclusion.
0 As more has been learned, more problems have been found. Originally there was only crime fighting, but then the viewers learned about Bone Marks that need to be found, the Prophets and their plans for domination, that there are actually other Boosters whose gauntlets need to be found, and Armegaddon and the League of Eight. The third season ended without solving any of these (though Armegaddon was defeated… for a time).
0 It is based in an entirely different universe. This universe is a complex and intriguing one, completely different from ours. It has a defined and realistic background, with mundane things such as food production, thought out.
0 While the series thus far has been based solely in Dragon City, there are other cities on Draconis, and have yet to be explored. According to Rob Travalino, the writer of Dragon Booster, these will be featured in Academy.
0 The world of Dragon Booster has a set history, and it can be seen how that history still effects Dragon City and the world, even though it was 2,000 years before the present setting.
0 The Down City crews are a fascinating body, governed by a Council with representatives from each crew; there is an entire political structure and political intrigue within it.
0 There are universal themes and problems, such as sticking with your family or doing the right thing (such as Moordryd Payne rebelling against his father, Word Payne).
0 The characters have complex, shifting affiliations, not simply good and bad. There are rogue characters (such as Rivett) who are in the grey zone that is neither good nor evil.
0 The characters have grown, developed, and changed as the series has progressed, adding richness and depth to the series (such as how Moordryd began questioning his father and actually became one of the “good guys”).
0 Character interactions, as well as crew interactions, are complex and intriguing, with many nuances that very clearly define how each party feels about the others.
0 It appeals to children, teenagers, and even adults.
0 It appeals both to young boys as well as girls.
0 Dragon Booster has a unique computer generated animation style.

I sincerely hope that you will consider this. Dragon Booster is an amazing series with an incredible storyline. It has an enormous amount of potential, and airing Dragon Booster Academy would only increase that potential. The marketability of such a dynamic series would be enormous, but only if Dragon Booster gets the attention it needs.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Okay, just so you guys know, the document isn't double spaced like that; instead, it has indentations at the start of the paragraphs. And it has a spot at the end of the document for you to sign your signature and date it.

Maybe you could raise the adult age? I think Airshadow is older than that, and other members as well.

Otherwise I really like it. You raise a bunch of good points and explain them in a really nice way. :cookie: :cookie:

Mari - August 24, 2009 04:27 AM (GMT)
Ah, good points, Liliwen! Thanks for fixing the 36 vs 39; I always keep wanting to say 36 for some reason...

As for Airy, I checked her profile and she's 33. That was a very good point to bring up. Hmm... Wonder how old Furox is....?

And I'll check to see whether it's "affects" or "effects"... Gah, I hate the way the English language is sometimes. <_<

Yes. Children are easily entertained. My grandchildren are rewatching the tapes again and again. They missed Dragon Booster.

You may change the adult age to 61, as my elder siblings had watched the cartoon with their children.

ARGH! I KNEW I spelled that wrong! D: :faint: You know it's been FAR too long since you've done anything with Dragon Booster when you can't even spell Paynn right. :faint:

Alrighty. Change "effect" to "affect", fix "Paynn", change age to 61, and change number of episodes to 39. Oh yeah. We RAWK.

Hmm... I think I'll leave the maximum age at 33, since Airy is actually a member of the board, but I'll include the fact that even some 61-year-olds are fans (if not members of the online community). How's that sound, as an idea?

There are members on the forums aging from preteen (12 and 13) up to adult (33). There are also parents and grandparents who are fans of Dragon Booster, though they are not members of the online community.

How's that sound?

Yeah, Disney Channel is a bunch of crap these days XP They'd rather show shitty live-action shows rather than cartoons because god forbid that a show on their channel is "unpopular". It makes me sick. DC isn't what it used to be :(

But, we will keep trying. Possibly put it on Disney XD or back on ABC Family?

Hmm... what about Toon Disney? They were showing DB for a while (admittedly it was at midnight, but still...) Me, I'm just going to send this to pretty much every friggin' network. Toon Disney is Disney XD. In America they made a new channel to replace Toon Disney, which sux major butt. I liked the old Toon Disney better. It had more classic Disney cartoons like "Timon and Pumbaa", "The Legend of Tarzan" and "Tailspin"... and Dragon Booster :(
