Title: Game Evolution And Development
Description: How the TCG was supposed to progress

I recently asked Rob if he had any information about what was to be in expansion packs for the trading card had they ever been printed. Looking at the cards, it's clear that Score had already had one or more expansion packs designed. In particular, cards like the Mortis crew card definitely needs cards from an expansion pack in order to be of use. I asked if there's any chance that any documentation Score had about the expansion packs could be released since there are a couple of us who are curious to know how the game might have evolved had the expansion packs been printed. Given that the game has been out of print for some time now, I was hoping the info might be released. Here's what Rob told me:

QUOTE (The Magna Draconis)
In terms of the Score TCG; The people I dealt with at Score aren't there now but I did work closely with them on the game design based on the property mechanics. While I can't give you detailed information just this second, I can say that the game was intended to evolve in a similar manner to the series, meaning escalating power values, gear and dragon evolutions as you learned to release your racing and draconium skills into more and more dangerous battle strategies and learned more and more "secret" skills and powers. I used to have long philosophical conversations with a great guy named Carl Braun at Score who was the lead designer on the game but I think he's moved on to other pastures.

Sorry, I don't have more, but I have extensive files going back to 2001 on back-up drives and such - so let me look through everything when I can, and perhaps I can find some of those initial game design documents and better answer some of your questions for you.

So there are no promises of course, but it would definitely be fun to see how the game was supposed to progress with the expansion packs. I will say that Rob's involvement with the game like this is pretty unique. Most production companies that want a trading card game to go with their show just subcontract the whole thing out and ignore it. It's pretty unusual for someone in Rob's position to get that involved with things, and in particular he told me previous that he came up with some of the game mechanics. I think it's pretty cool that he wanted to be sure the game progressed with the show which is something you don't see very often at all. Most TCGs made to go with shows are usually done as an afterthought and it's nice to see someone thinking outside that box.

I'm not expecting anything back from Rob anytime soon, but if he does send me anything, I'll post it here.
