Title: Dragon Booster: A Shining Star
Description: The first DB visual novel/dating sim?!

Skylii - April 1, 2009 04:21 AM (GMT)
Fellow DB fans, I present to you a preview of the project that I have been working on during my inactivity of being unable to access the DB forum: the first ever Dragon Booster Visual Novel/Dating Simulator Game!

In this visual novel (tentatively titled as Dragon Booster: My Shining Star), you play as Pi, a young, enthusiastic girl from out of town who has placed her feet in the world of Dragon City and yearns to explore it (along with her male Sky-class dragon, which you can name yourself). After only a few hours in Dragon City just walking and talking, though, she gets ambushed by the Dragon Eyes! However, just before things get really bad, the Dragon Booster swoops in to save the day. From there, Pi’s journey is all in your hands.

The gameplay is simple and follows most other visual novel-styled games. You talk with the people that have befriended you or that you have befriended as you explore Dragon City, and they’ll show you around and help you out. At times too, you will be asked to make choices, be it minor ones like a simple “yes” or “no”, or more major ones. While you’re at it, there are a few people that you’ll get pretty close to, mostly the guys. These guys will influence Pi’s time in Dragon City, and in turn she too may just influence them as well. As you form relationships with these specific people, you choose a Path, and from there you’ll follow it where it leads, and be faced with choices as the game goes along that will affect the current plot you’re taking. Every Path will have its plot, and how close they intertwine or change, and what Path you will be on, will depend on the choices you make.

The three main guys you can forge major relationships with are:

Artha Penn: You’ll meet him at the start of the game while exploring Dragon City, and then again sometime later when you realize that he is the Dragon Booster after he saves you. Artha’s Path is a very basic one, and Artha himself is a pretty laid-back but eager guy, with his own secrets and his own troubles. He’s got a bit of an ego, but he’s overall nice and easygoing, and very encouraging. He’s willing to go the distance and protect the people that are close to him, no matter what. This is a basic Path, but since you’ll be around the Dragon Booster quite a bit, Word Paynn probably will try to get his hands on you, so expect a fair share of some tough spots and situations that will test your loyalties.

Parmon Sean: You’ll meet him later on when you’re introduced to Artha and the rest of Penn Racing. Parm’s definitely a huge techno-geek, but that’s alright, since you yourself are pretty tech-savvy yourself – just not as much as him, though. Parm is scatterbrained at times and a little nervous and enthusiastic when he shouldn’t be, and he also tends to push his patience and effort a bit too far, but he’s very nice, understanding, and will try to help you out as much as you can, from tinkering with handcrafted gear to solving more major problems such as why Word Paynn is trying to hunt you down. Like Artha, Parm’s willing to walk that extra mile in order to make sure his friends are safe and sound, as well as ready for anything and cheered up.

Moordryd Paynn: You’ll meet him when the Dragon Eyes arrive to ambush you. Moordryd is a difficult person and pretty much comes off as a jerk. However, there’s more to this bad boy than meets the eye that’s willing to care about things, but if you plan on digging deep into his mysteries right away, good luck with that. This is the trickiest and toughest Path to take because of Moordryd’s stubbornness and cold exterior, and chances are you won’t be looked at too kindly when you and he are in the same scene, by him and other people who will notice you two together. You must also deal with the fact that he’s part of the most notorious Down City crew in Dragon City, and his father is Word Paynn, who isn’t too happy that you’re trying to get close with his son...

Those are just the basic three, but there are a total of six different guys that you can make relationships with, which will require some careful choices, especially for a secret character that’s quite shady and silent, but will be more than willing to be around for you and stare at you with his lovely red eyes...

The whole game isn’t just about getting a boyfriend, though, and finding love over your vacation. Like other visual novels, you’ll be asked to try some things. In this game, it’s things such as whether or not you’d like to join a certain crew, or run some errands for Penn Stables or any other businesses. Some more events include battles and races or mini-games that may require you to do them if they are in your Path, otherwise your Path could change. Basically, enjoy what Dragon City has to offer. Even if you run into a few obstacles, it’s still one vacation that you’ll never forget.

Here are a couple of screenshots from the beta engine so far that’ll give you more of an idea on the story and style:
