Title: Websites
ShadowCat - March 29, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Anyone know of any Dragon Booster websites with episode guides and stuff like that?
Areal_Ravendark - March 29, 2005 05:42 AM (GMT)
I'd say your best bet would be TV Tome :)

As LightningFlash said, the
Official Dragon Booster Web Site is the right place to start. In particular, anyone who's seriously interested in the show should go straight to the Mythology page and read the four chapter back story (while cranking your speakers up to the maximum to listen to the great music at the same time). It fills in a lot of blanks that are never mentioned in the show (or are glossed over too quickly). Things happening in the show will start to make more sense once you read this.
If you're interested in trading card games, check out the
Dragon Booster Trading Card Game web site. Even if you're not into trading card games, it's worth visiting the site to pick up other useful tidbits. For example, go to the
News link and click where it says
Learn Draconian and you'll get a translation table from the Draconian alphabet used in the show to our own alphabet. Print it out and keep it by the TV and you can see what some of the signage in the show says.
It's also worth noting that there's another discussion forum over at tvtome.com.
Click here to go directly to the Dragon Booster section. Then click on the
Forum link. They also have a good cast list with photos of some of the voice actors.
Enjoy. If anyone finds other useful sites, please post them.

Wow, thanks. :)
I like the city section on the official site, I think the different levels of the city are one of the things that fascinate me most. Down City would have to be my favourite, I think.
The trading card game site also has a section where you can just play the music, which, agreed, is pretty darn cool. :D

Oh, I forgot to mention one thing if anyone tries to decode the signage in Dragon City:
Some of the signs have been flipped horizontally, so what you're actually looking at is a mirror image. Flipping backgrounds is not uncommon in animation and allows them to easily reuse elements in different shots. Or sometimes they change a shot for continuity or other purposes and need to have the action coming from the opposite side from what they originally laid out, and so they flip the background. It's too time consuming for them to go back and redo the signs, so we end up looking at mirror images. This can obviously make it really tough to read some signs. So if you try to decode a sign and it's not making sense, try reading it backwards (and of course, the letters are backwards as well).
For example, I thought that big sign that Beau crashes into at the end of episode 1 after he makes the big jump might say something interesting. It turns out this sign is a mirror image. The big letters across the middle of the sign simply say "RACE". It's apparently supposed to be a billboard ad for an upcoming race or something. I couldn't quite make out the smaller print on the sign (it's tough enough to do when the letters aren't backwards), so I don't know what the rest of the it says. If anyone can decode the rest, let me know.
Fortunately, other signs are easier to read. When they encounter the blocked passage in "The Track of Doom", it's easy to decode the writing as "KEEP OUT" and "DANGER".
Have fun.

I'll admit I haven't tried that yet. But I'll give it a go. I know that Word's screens at Paynn enterprises have a 'W' when they're not being used, but I thought a 'P' would be more logical. Company name, and all. It's cool that they use real words, and don't just use the different language as an excuse to stick unreadable stuff there.
The Powers That Be love me today. My guitar teacher (who normally always comes five minutes before Dragon Booster starts  ) rescheduled, and came at nine am. Yes, I had to get up early to milk and stuff, but it means that I can watch 'Libris' this afternoon! :D

I've only looked at a couple of signs out of curiosity but I have a feeling that some may well be nothing but gibberish. At least some are readable though. For example, at the start of the epilogue scene in the first episode where the camera cranes down to where Artha, Beau and Lance are hiding out, lots of signs go by. One I stopped on to read has a picture of two ping pong paddles on it, and sure enough, the sign says "HAPPY PLACE PING PONG" which is apparently supposed to be a game room. Other signs I couldn't make out. They were either mirror images and I was too confused or they were just gibberish. One sign had only three letters on it and it looked like maybe the designer stuck their initials in or something. Anyway, something to do for a little fun.

Oh, thanks! The Phorrj/Furox mutated dragon struck me as cool looking: intense with a loud color scheme. Wyldfyr strikes me as cool looking as well, as does Beau of course (in either of his color schemes). I wonder how long it took the show's creators to decide to give the patriotic red, white and blue color scheme to the show's two heroes Artha and Beau. :) Between Artha's clothes and Beau, those are about the only colors you see when looking at them.

Sounds a bit like what Pixar did when naming the boats in Sydney Harbour in 'Finding Nemo'.

Yeah, the Furox was pretty impressive, I liked the spiky tail. :)
Never thought about Artha and Beau's colour scheme, but my favourite dragon colour-wise is the purple/green one that pops up from time to time, with the plant-like pattern on its tail.

I'll have to check out the background stuff sometime. Is a good show and the background sounds really interesting, but I haven't had alot of time with uni and stuff to really get obsessed. Week off next week though, so maybe I'll do it then.
