I tried to do the GTS thing, but i can't. i need a wep key, but what is that??? and if i go to the counter in the gts in jublife city, when the lady lets me in, a message appears saying that there's no commpatable access point in range. for help go to www.nintendowifi.com error 51099.the help on the site is useless. so help me!!!
If we're talking about wifi, a wep key is a password that allows you to connect to your wifi access point. It's sort of like logging in to the wifi network. Whoever setup the access point will have to tell you the password they set on the device.
the error you're getting actually means that your DS is picking up no compatible wireless access points. nintendo-wifi.com has a list of compatible routers and any special requirements for them, so check there and make sure your router is compatible. Then make sure you properly set up the wifi settings from Diamond/Pearl's main menu, under Nintendo WFC settings
yea, but were do i find my WEP key?
Join the club, darling. Same thing happened to me at first.
Firstly, Furox is right - a WEP key has nothing to do with your Nintendo DS. A WEP key is a (usually) 10-digit number code that is the 'password' that connects any device to your home's Wi-Fi (that's smart-person-talk for 'wireless internet').
I know how this feels right now - really annoying, right? :C But if there were no such thing as WEP keys, any jerk who wants free internet will just sit outside your house and use the wireless internet that radiates out from your modem. X) You need to have a password to protect your wireless internet. Or you'll be paying for some freeloader's email!
So, what's your WEP key?
The fellow who came and did up your internet must have written it down for your parents (ask, they may remember), or perhaps he himself knows it. Try calling the company that gave your wireless internet in the first place, they'll be sure to help.
If you can't connect them because you forgot your number, or that guy who did your internet is a smelly, fat, computer addict and you don't want to hear his horrible voice again, most companies will tell you to use the world's most common WEP keys:
1234567890
OR
0123456789
That should work. Unless, your parents are paranoid like me and have a different key. X) Then, you may need more help.
Plan B
If you didn't have Wi-Fi in the first place (your computer is connected directly by a wire to your modem), or what I said before didn't help a cent, there's always Plan B. (My glorious plan for world domination! C:< Muah-ha-ha-ha.)
Go to the nearest McDonalds, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Starbucks, or any cafe/public area that offers 'Free Wireless Internet Acess', open up your Nintendo DS, and - odds are - the Wi-Fi there will not be needing you to put in a WEP key!
Best of luck, and happy trading.

Fat Nicky
