Title: Still Waters Freeze
Description: Episode twenty-two

Skylii - November 7, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
(Unless, correct me if I'm wrong, it DID air in the U.S already...)

One big problem I had with this episode...*inhales*

Moordryd is Teh Chosen One?

Moordryd is Teh Chosen One?!

Why oh why oh why OH WHHHHYYY does he have to be so speshul now?! I mean, he was already speshul before, even without the deliberate misspelling! Arrrgghh!

But besides that, it's rather good in my book. Started off rather strangely; I knew something was up when I saw Dragon Booster's leg, because it seemed smaller than usual. And, of course, it was obvious that Lance was dreaming, all the way to the end, when Cain and Moordryd actually called him "Lance".

Something tells me that the DB female character style is for them to be skinny? :P (Seriously, though, Marianis is even skinnier than Kitt.)

Marianis must pick up on a lot of loose conversation. Where does she get all her sources? (Anybody else think a Moordryd/Marianis is just slightly possible? :P)

The whole frozen statue Artha thing was ridiculously funny. Two Sue bashin' epps in a row! *pumps fist in air* :D (Actually, we never got to see Artha as Artha in here, just Artha as Dragon Booster!)

The ancient gear thing was not ALL that powerful. All it does is freeze things. (Speaking of which, Parm suddenly figuring out that the ancient gear will reverse options was rather...blah.)

The sleeping purple tracking dragon thing was funny as well.

Seems like Mortis got even more distressed than usual in this one. He actually sounded desperate.

Armeggaddon must die a thousand deaths. The amulet and gauntlet thing for Moordryd...if he has to scream something when he transforms...*shudders*

Moordryd's role wasn't all all bad in this. His hysteria was also a nice touch, something we saw in "Pride of the Hero". (Anybody also noticed how he had to think for a moment before he cut off the connection with his father?)

Yep. Perfectly fine in my book. Even better now that Artha's finally getting physically hurt. It was kind of boring just having him intimidate everybody 'cause he's Teh Hero. :)

I agree. that was the funniest part in that episode!!!!!!

Artha: mhhmhuumumhhuu!!!!!!!!

And how Lance and Parm were poking Artha with their mag-staffs to keep him on Beau.

QUOTE
The sleeping purple tracking dragon thing was funny as well.

Parm: I COMMAND YOU!!!!........... please.........

Artha: Beau?

Beau: ROOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!

*tracking dragon flies out of Parms hand*

This was one of the more funnier episodes, I must agree.

What happen there?????

What with the sleeping tracking dragon?

Parm captured a purple tracking dragon and reprogrammed it to search for Marianis or the Dragon Fish crew, and it fell asleap in Parms hand and he couldn't get it to wake up, so Beau let out a roar and the tracking dragon nearly crapped itself in startlement, then instantly flew out of Parms hand.

nope

Well, that part kind of surprised me a bit, seeing as I wasn't expecting another main antagonist so soon, though it was already foreshadowed in the ending of "Faster than Fear". Just to think it used to be about between Word and DB, with Moordryd in the middle, who's now leaning towards the evil side, though not toward Word. O_o

I liked that sequence! :D At least we get to see Lance in a better-looking suit, one that actually fits him. :) And though he mimicked DB in combat (Artha does that one-two uppercut combo later that Lance daydreamed), he even made his own sweeping technique that made him look like he was sliding on his shins (will Artha do that to a bigger opponent or a dragon?). Also, that's one of the few times we get to see weather effects in the entire series. (Possibility of snow, anyone? ;) )

QUOTE

There has to be a weight limit somewhere. If they were too obese ( ), it would just torture their dragons. :(

The walls have ears...that or the Dragon Fish crew must have really good hearing. ;)

 They should do more awful, funnier stuff to him. First the gagging Draconee-Yums commercial, and now the play-Artha-like-an-action-figure gig.   You know, that could be one of his redeeming features. ;)

QUOTE

Well, it's just as overrated as the bone marks: all they do is give dragons overdose of draconium steroids and their riders hallucinatory insanity and obsessive-compulsive disorder. <_< And is just me or has Kitt always been this reasonable and mature? And this also implies that Mortis was at the surface, though we never know where he was. <_< *speculates that he was either over at the garage, doing more priestly work there or at the stables sleeping on the ground like everyone else*

QUOTE
The sleeping purple tracking dragon thing was funny as well.

It's just as cute as Lance. ^_^

QUOTE

Before you know it, he'll pass out from the collective worry of magical artifacts and the Penn brothers. ;)

QUOTE

He should die screaming something too. Now that makes it 1001 deaths. ;)

The hysteria needs to be spread. (He's almost attached to his father, as Artha is to his own father. And yes, Armeggaddon does sound like evul Mortis oddly enough.)

Other tidbits:

- Cain uses a whip!

- With Cyrano magging DB: now you're really stretching the limits of magging there!

- Artha's best line here must be either "NOOOOOOO!!!!!" or "*insert making noise here*"

Could any one tell me what happens in this chapter???

Who's Armageddon?

Kereea - November 7, 2005 12:10 PM (GMT)
He's this spooky guy trapped in a Dragon-Eye amulet an is training Moordryd for some big destiny of power. Apparently Moordryd is a chosen one who's destined to beat the DB.
I was alright with this episode, but I don't trust Marianis. Her crew is decended from the Light-Blue Draconium empire, and they were famous for switching sides in the original war!

The Magna Draconis - November 7, 2005 05:11 PM (GMT)
let me answer one thing for you guys,

All of the street crews have some bits and pieces of the ancient knowledge and some ancient artifacts that they hide and maintain. The Magna Draconis itself (Book of the Dragon) was broken into sections after the Dragon Human War and some of the crews have some of the pages.

Airshadow - November 7, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
NOW

I'm totally confussed about Moodryd and that amulet and what's goin there :(

QUOTE (Airshadow @ Nov 6 2005, 09:21 PM)
Who's Armageddon?

Armeggaddon is a being of some sort that apparently escaped the Shadow Track in "Faster than Fear" when the track collapsed. In that episode, we saw a bunch of trapped people escape with their dragons, but there was also a dark shadow that passed by. This shadow was apparently Armeggaddon.

All we see of him in this episode is a pair of very sinister, non-human eyes peering out from the darkness. Exactly what he is is unspecified at this point. At the moment, he appears to be a being or entity with no body. Whether he was human at some point in the past is unknown. The eyes are very non-human, so I wouldn't rule out anything right now. He might actually be (or was) a dragon or some other strange creature.

It's alluded to that he was trapped in the Shadow Track for a very long time, opening the possibility he was around for the first dragon-human war. My previous speculation that the Shadow Track might have been built to imprison someone or something could be right. Or maybe he just went into the Shadow Track to retrieve the amulet we see him give to Moordryd and became trapped there himself. It's a mystery for now.

I'm not sure I would take anything Armeggaddon says at face value just yet. The fact that Armeggaddon told Moordryd he had a destiny might just be Armeggaddon attempting to manipulate and use Moordryd for his own evil purposes. Moordryd appears to be opportunistic when it comes to acquiring power (perhaps we can say that's his character flaw) and Armeggaddon may just be playing into that. Armeggaddon had a chance to observe Moordryd when they were both in the Shadow Track, and may have simply picked him as a suitable patsy for his plans based on that. In some ways, this strikes me as similar to how the Sith Lord in Star Wars manipulated Anakin Skywalker down the path to the Dark Side of the Force. On the surface, it appeared that Senator Palpatine was mentoring Anakin when he was in fact using him all along. Looks to me like Armeggaddon has a similar plan in mind for Moordryd.

On the other hand, Beau did allow Moordryd to ride him, so that makes Moordryd a Chosen One, or at least, a member of a very exclusive club.

So Armeggaddon gives Moordryd an amulet and says the next step is to recover the matching gaunlet. That makes it pretty clear that Moordryd is going to have a draconium suit and/or powers on a par with the Dragon Booster. Perhaps it will even power-up Decepshun as well. Since the amulet is a Dragon Eyes symbol, my guess is the ancient Dragon Eyes empire made their own amulet and gauntlet to counter the original Dragon Booster.

This gives us lots of players now: Word and his agenda for a second dragon-human war, Artha/Mortis/Beau and their plans for peace, Propheci with his plans to rule humans, Armeggaddon with whatever his own world domination plan is, and Moordryd who will most likely play along as patsy for Armegaddon for a while until he realizes that wasn't the best choice (as he did in "Wraith Booster"). This gives us five major players in the conflict, plus whatever else the various crews might do on their own. (Minimally, it looks like we have Phistus, Reepyr, Marianis and Wulph on Artha's side.) Nice. This makes it so much more interesting than if it was just Artha vs. Word in every episode. I like it. :D

Airshadow - November 8, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
So Moodryd will be an Anti-Dragon Booster???

Do you remember that Black Draconioum empire started the wars and after that joined to DB?????

perhaps Armagedon had involved in that change of sides

According to Rob, there's a two-part episode coming up called "The Return of Drakkus". Takers, anybody? Here's my prediction: Drakkus was the original enemy of the original Dragon Booster from 3,000 years ago. Now 3,000 years later, Artha is chosen to be the Dragon Booster, and have the powers of 3,000 years ago. Of course, he'll need an enemy similar to the one from 3,000 years ago, so why not Moordryd? So Armeggaddon, role unknown from 3,000 years ago, decides that Moordryd shall be this guy, gives him an amulet and teaches him the ancient ways of power. (Moordryd is power-hungry; his flaw. :D) Also, Moordryd's middle name is perhaps some type of innocent foreshadowing...?

Oh yeah, totally with you there. The ol' Artha without gettin' hurt badly and only mentally weak vs. Word who is Teh Ultimate Evilness was getting a bit boring. Though one thing I should mention: Word's got a bazillion cameras mysteriously set up around Dragon City. At first I expected this guy to know about the gear, but it seems like Word didn't. (Unless, of course, him calling up Moordryd was about that. His voice seemed a bit edgy, IMO.)

Yeah, one thing I liked about Moordryd's choosing. There are advantages to this whole Armeggaddon/Moordryd teacher-student thing. (All of a sudden, why do I think that the student will be the one defeating the master, like in those kung-fu and superhero stories?)

QUOTE

Liked that sequence too, but slight cheesy. ;) (Anybody else want to question the Dragon City laws of gravity and friction?)

Yep. Must be that, since I recall you explaining that fish rely on hearing. (Probably explains Dorsall's eyes being covered by his hair.)

Hmm, I rather liked the effect on bonemarks, but the Unseen Power Gifts DO rise questions. I mean, we haven't seen any of the bonemark dragons do much besides mag-blast, roar really loudly, be all scareh and shtuff, and yeah...oooh, let's see 'em do some legendary powers and make their riders mag-fire from their hands like what Mortis did! Pleeeaase? :D

QUOTE

Aye to that.

QUOTE

Moordryd's practically a reincarnation of his father: with cold heart, love of power, and even insanity. :P

Cain does use a whip in "Leap of Lorius" as well. Hmm...maybe whip skills is necessary in the Dragon Eye crew? Or maybe it's because he's a lieutenant, huh...

Just wait until you see "The Mechanist". Mag-related things are going to be waaaaay "O_o..." and yeah.

Oh yeah, Artha was bashed around a bit, being treated like an action finger, being flung around, being poked with mag-staffs and doing extremely dorky Superman poses. I like this. Even if the bashing stops, keep getting him physically hurt. At least he's not going to be all intimidating. <_<

Yep, all those muffled noises were funny. Even funnier when I turned on the CC and always saw something like "[peeved] Mmmmffmmmff!" "[more peeved] Mmmffmfff!" "[angry] Mmmmfffmmfff!" and then, of course, his nervous expression when Beau decided to whip him around, and Moordryd and Cain duck with O_O!!! expressions as Artha suddenly screams "NOOOOO!!! BEAU, NOOOOOO!!! BEAU, NOOOOOO!!!"

I swear, best moment of Artha-bashing yet. ^___^

Yep, kinda confused about their role in here too. (You know, in the Dragon Booster Nitendo DS game, I think they're giving Light Blue Draconium a slightly different name, using Aqua Draconium. Not much of a difference, and I actually like the game name change. The word "aqua" fits the Dragon Fish more.

Armeggaddon? Is that the eyes-in-the amulet thing? I thought he was a dragon for a long time..

Also, did anybody notice that the ancient gear looked like a ruby-studded-artichoke? My dad came down stairs while I was recording and remarkd. "Why is he holding a blue ruby-studded-artichoke? And how did the artichoke freez that guy?" I found it very funny, since Dad had no clue what it was.

He could be a dragon for all we know. At the moment, Armeggaddon is a pair of disembodied, non-human eyes and a voice that seems to come from nowhere. Who knows what he is. :ph43r:

Moordryd's middle name being Drakkus is an interesting coincidence with that episode title, isn't it. You may be right there.

And I agree that the amulet Moordryd now has will give him powers on a par with Artha, which will make Artha's life more complex. That should keep things interesting.

QUOTE
Unless, of course, [Word] calling up Moordryd was about that. His voice seemed a bit edgy, IMO.

Yeah, I think Word was a bit annoyed that Moordryd hasn't been taking his calls. I've been expecting Moordryd to split from Word and go off on his own at some point in the story line. The way Moordryd hung up on Word there may indicate we're approaching that point.

QUOTE
and then, of course, [Artha's] nervous expression when Beau decided to whip him around, and Moordryd and Cain duck with O_O!!! expressions as Artha suddenly screams "NOOOOO!!! BEAU, NOOOOOO!!! BEAU, NOOOOOO!!!"

I liked that, too! Artha is frozen like a statue and Beau decides to swing him around like club. From Beau's point of view, I'm sure that seemed like a perfectly fine idea. :D

Another quote I liked: when Cain chickened out and wanted to run away, he tells Coershun "Let's burn claw!" Both Cain and Coershun seem to have a cowardly streak ever since the Shadow Track experience. Maybe they need therapy...

Also, Marianis states that Dragon City Security is afraid of Word and Moordryd's crew. Maybe that's there to explain why they haven't been arrested for all the crimes they've committed so far. I mean like how many counts of grand theft dragon do you think Moordryd has by now? ;) And that's before we even get to the kidnapping charges: Moordryd's kidnapped Kitt, Lance and Stewardd, and has held Spratt prisoner, too. I think Marianis' line also indicates that Artha & company can't expect any help from Dragon City Security when the going will no doubt get tough in upcoming episodes.

I really liked the way this episode upped the ante. Can't wait to see what will happen next. We'll be getting two more new episodes here this month, then I think they will probably go to re-runs over the holidays, though we might get a new episode or two in mid-December.

hyperpsychomaniac - November 29, 2005 10:51 AM (GMT)
Well, just saw this episode today. Now, lets see if I can remember all the bits, 'cause I was rather absorbed in it... and I tend to forget specific stuff when I get absorbed... but that's good... and I need to start taping these things... *headdesk* ;)

Two favourite lines in this one:
Artha to Parm when he's trying to get the tracker dragon to listen: "Do you do this on purpose?"
Cain to Moordryd as frozen Dragon Booster is hurled towards him: "Moordryd! Lookout! He's... FROZEN!"

Okay, Beau using frozen Artha as a hard object to bash stuff was just funny. Poor Artha looked so freaked. And when he falls off Beau. :D

My sister said the gear looked like an Artichoke. :)

Hmm... Moordryd is the 'chosen one'? I'm guessing that translates to: 'the one who will be used and manipulated until he no longer serves a purpose.'

I also remember there being a really cool looking camera pan... somewhere. It looked very nice anyway. :D

I also thought the hand-to-hand combat looked pretty good. I don't think they've actually had all that much yet. More whacking each other with sticks, please!

Also, after Moordryd and Artha have been fighting, you can see Beau and Desepcion growling at each other. Liked that.

Moordryd seems attracted to power. He sees the amulet thing and is like 'looks... *gets glint* powerful'. No, he isn't exactly cold hearted, but he's definately way too attracted to power... this cannot go well *sits and watches Moordryd to see what happens*

LightningFlash - November 29, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Apparently this was the final ep we get for a while. That was a quick thirteen . . . <_<

So, can anyone tell me what exactly Parm has against Mortis? He doesn't really seem to be the type to rebel against authority.

Fear it, the gemstone-studded aqua artichoke!

I'll lose it if they're next ancient piece of gear (not the grey one, that looks kinda like a critter ) is gonna look like a fruit or veggie again. Then we'll know that back then, 3,000 years ago...you must use the mechanical foods to defend your side! (I'm sorry, I'm way too hyper right now. :P)

Hmm... Moordryd is the 'chosen one'? I'm guessing that translates to: 'the one who will be used and manipulated until he no longer serves a purpose.'

Another question: just how LONG do you think this is this gonna last? :)

It's a shame Rollercoaster won't be showing more episodes (hopefully next year they will continue). So I kinda went a bit overboard in taking screen shots for all to view - go HERE
That tracking dragon was cute, me and my sister 'squee-ed' when we saw it. Everytime I see Mortis do the Jedi-hand-wave I end up laughing. The first time I noticed this was in 'Faster than Fear' when he told Artha that fear is an illusion, almost like he was doing the Jedi Mind trick to try and emphasise the point :P. This time he used the Jedi-hand-wave to 'summon' the VID screen.

So, can anyone tell me what exactly Parm has against Mortis? He doesn't really seem to be the type to rebel against authority.

Hmm... thought he would've gotten over this in 'Rules of Power.' Perhaps it's supposed to be the smart guy 'well I'm smart, so I know better than the guy who's older than me, and knows all the ancient... stuff'. Still not sure if it's entirely in character for Parm though... might be... I don't know!

And is it just me? Or does Kitt seem to be doing a lot of 'stay here, I'll go help the Dragon Booster' recently?

Okay, Beau using frozen Artha as a hard object to bash stuff was just funny.

Yes! I loved that bit, too. Beau can improvise! Beau thinks: "Artha's frozen? Noooo problem. I know how to swing a club!"

Without a doubt. Armeggaddon most definitely has his own agenda and he's going to use Moordryd to further it. It's difficult to say what exactly Armeggaddon is. He appears to lack a physical body and might need Moordryd to do things he can't right now, and so he plays into Moordryd's thirst for power and will almost certainly double-cross Moordryd at some point.

This could actually get really interesting. Moordryd's no dummy and may start suspecting a double-cross from Armeggaddon (if he hasn't already). So Moordryd could in turn set up his own double-cross on Armeggaddon (or would that be a triple-cross? :D ). The other possibility is that Armeggaddon's double-cross is what pushes Moordryd to ally with Artha to stop Armeggaddon. In any event, with all the different sides vying for control, this could be really fun!

Moordryd seems attracted to power. He sees the amulet thing and is like 'looks... *gets glint* powerful'. No, he isn't exactly cold hearted, but he's definately way too attracted to power...

He is most definitely. He no doubt got that way because power is the only way to impress his father. I think Moordryd still wants to impress his father, but unlike season 1 where he was looking to win his father's acceptance, now he appears to be on the path to impress his father by crushing him in defeat instead. At least, that's the change in tone of Moordryd's behavior that I pick up when comparing season 1 and season 2.

Thank the Magna draconis! This is exactly what I've been trying to put into words! I still say Arrmeggadonn is going to do something that might give him a physical form!

I agree. They're teasing us by only showing him as a sinister pair of eyes. I don't think they'd do that if they didn't plan on revealing his true form at some point. I hope it's a good surprise. B)

Nope. To me, it looks like water...or a fish. *has just seen middle of her ponytail and think it looks like a fish eye* :P

Yes! I suggested that possibility back on page 1 of this thread. Those eyes are very non-human, perhaps for a reason...

Other fun thing to speculate about in this episode:

Do you think that little sequence at the beginning where Lance laments that he, Parm, and Kitt don't get to be the hero, and Lance and Parm's daydream about being the DB might be foreshadowing something? It was kind of a lot of screen time to spend on it just for a gag, which makes me think the writers might be planting the start of something.

We know Moordryd's going to become a lot more powerful in the near future (like probably this week when "The Return of Drakkus" airs). That seems to imply that Artha is going to need stronger allies on his side. I wonder if this foreshadows Kitt, Parm and Lance playing a more substantial role in helping Artha as opposed to mostly standing on the sidelines.

Another possibility I could see is that Mortis gives them each some kind of artifact or gear that makes them stronger and/or allows them to release the power of their own dragons in some way. It seems pretty likely that Moordryd is going to get a Dragon Booster-like suit once he finds the gaunlet that goes with the amulet. So might Kitt, Parm, and Lance get something similar? Hmmm. Could be fun if this is a little hint of what might be coming. B)

MAybe is when the war really starts!!!!

What if Armagedon is also manipulating Word Paynn and now (Argamedon)decided that its Morrdryd's turn?
