Who wants to try and make a DB podcast with me?

Originally I had planned to do the Q&A for The Alchemist with Rob as a podcast, however it looks like his schedule is a bit too busy to record it right now. I'd still like to do a podcast, so I wanted to see if anyone here wants to help me make one. The way this would work is that we'd get a couple of people together, read the questions and answers, and then have a brief round table type discussion after each answer. It's sort of like what we do here on the forum except we'd record the whole thing.

For this to work, I'll need 3 or 4 people to participate with me. We'll set up an audio link over the Internet and I'll record it on my end. This means you'll need to have a headset and microphone and you'll have to download some software. I think we can use the audio conference feature in AIM, but we'd have to test it first. And obviously, I'll need people who are good "discussers" and who can present their thoughts clearly for this to come out good. We want the discussion to be lively and interesting, like a radio talk show. I'll take care of the recording, editing, and getting the podcast on the net.

So does anyone want to work with me on this? Before you say "yes", remember you have to already own a headset and microphone or be willing to go out and buy one right now since I want to pull this together fairly quickly. Also, I'm looking for people who are at least 18 so I don't have to worry about parental permission.

hmm might I throw in a suggestion that maybe after we have our rounds of discussion with the Q&As that we could talk about developments with our episode and any other announcements that either of us want to say :3

i can help, i've actually made one with my friends for school once so i have experience, plus a voice for radio/podcasts, lol

I haven't counted you yet because I thought you said you didn't have a headset. Has that changed?

It looks like we have at least four people now, so let's see if we can make this happen:

First off, we need to find a time when we can all be online, so I need to know what time zone everyone is in and some idea of what days and times might work.

I'm in the Pacific time zone (GMT -8). Generally, I would only be available for this on weekends and I could do just about anytime.

Second, we need to find some software that will let us connect easily. For starters, let's give skype a try. I haven't used it myself, but it's free and allows conference calls. So everyone who wants in on this should download skype (www.skype.com), create an account and do the built-in test call to make sure they've got things working. Post when you get it working. When we're all ready, we'll do a short test conference to make sure we can all connect and get good sound quality. Once we work out all the kinks, we'll record the actual podcast!

Let's all try to get ready so we can do this for the Q&A as soon as it comes back from Rob.

I've had skype for a couple of years now, I've been talking to friends from the UK and other states ;D

Same timezone as you Furox so I can do the weekends anytime!

Well I live in the Eastern time Zone. And, I am mainly free on the weakends. Especially on Saturday. I recomend we try doing this on a Saturday. That just seems to be the best time for anyone.

I'll make a deal with everyone right now. I have something in my posession that other than Furox. That I'm sure no one esle has. It is a card of 1 of the very first rough sketches of Beau and Artha (As the Dragon Booster) And if we can get this podcast off the ground. then I will post this card for everyone to see. And, this is a guarantee.

Ok, I'm at -6 GMT, which is Central time USA. I can do Saturdays as well, but not between 10:00AM and 2:00PM. I have to go to work then, and it's the only time I work all week. (Still in high school and doing that part-time) So I would say anytime about 3:00.

Should we just all discuss things in GMT time? That might make conversions easier for us (the maths make with my brain meats the hurting).
At work between 4PM and 8PM, so 9PM is good.

If it helps motivate people to participate, I have a few more rare DB trinkets which I will give away to people who actively get involved and work to make the podcast.

Before calling the first time, be sure to test your headset by calling the "echo123" service to make sure you've got the audio working both ways.

You'll need to pick up a headset, get Skype loaded and be online during the recording session.

Scheduling: this Saturday (April 19) is just for testing and getting acquainted. The real podcast will be recorded at some point in the future. We may also do a brief rehearsal of sorts before then. We'll schedule the real recording session once we get the Q&A back from Rob. The way it will work is that I'll send everyone the answers so you can review them and think up interesting comments to make during the podcast. :) Then we'll pick a date and record!

I was able to connect with MinervaRahn and IbanezJFS today (Saturday). I should be online Sunday afternoon as well if anyone else wants to try and connect. If enough of us are online at once, we can try a conference call and see how that goes.

Also, since it looks like we have enough people, I was thinking we might try to do a radio play version of "The Alchemist" as well. This is where we divide up the parts and read the script like an old time radio show. They do these are the Gargoyles fan conventions and they're quite fun. See what you think. :)

Oh, I told Dad about the headset (it's actually his; stole it off his computer desk XD) and he said that he didn't think I'd be able to get it to work. I got the headphones to work, but not the mick. Since I'm going off to college next year, Dad's going to get me a camera with a speaker on it! (So I can bother my parents every day without driving an hour to get home every weekend) I'm so excited! :dance:

Yep, that works out exactly. I'm in California, so it's 8 hours earlier here than where you are. Working out a time when everyone can be online at once may be challenging, but hopefully not impossible.

Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what to suggest in that case as far as how you can participate in the podcast. If you can think of something, let me know.

It's difficult to say if it's the headset or audio input settings in your computer. Headsets are really cheap on ebay or at places like Radio Shack. I got mine at a local surplus store for $5 and it works fine. You might just want to pick up another one.

Let's see if we can do the radio play. We'll need enough people for all the parts plus a narrator (though we can always double-up on parts if need be).
