I'm pretty sure that OC is Original Character, though I might be wrong...
OOC, when used in an rp, is Out Of Character
If you're going to have stuff like lol, theres going to be a loooong list, including rofl, lmao, omg, etc.
Theres also shows and books and stuff like HP: HBP, CoS, PoA; LotR, etc.
Sarah Frost - November 6, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
Jouroo's correct, though "kreechy" and "groady" sound like comic-book terms to me rather than anything I've seen commonly used--v. onomatopoeic.
PS is more often used in letters; ETA would be more commonly seen online. It's also the acronym for the first HP book, which is often referred to as PS/SS due to the American title.
Mari - November 6, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
Wow. You know quite a bit about this sort of thing, Sarah. I wish that I did as well.
I included lol because it's one of the most common things I see on the internet. If anybody thinks of anything to add to the list, I'll edit my post and add, okay? :D
LightningFlash - November 7, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
OC can also be Other Character. Pyrrah is one such.
PS is Plus Something or Post Script, depending, I believe.
Mari - November 7, 2005 11:36 AM (GMT)
Okay! Thank you, LightningFlash. I'll edit my post and put that up :D
Skylii - November 11, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
Perhaps we can have IMO, which means "In my opinion", and TY, which probably means "thank you".
If you have LOL up there, you may want to insert in brackets (and all other forms of chatspeak. lyk omg omfg 2 b4 h8 rofl lmao wat u btw...I could go on and on, but I'm sure all of us know The Dreaded Language. See, this is another reason I don't want MSN, because all my friends talking in eye-searing chatspeak.)
Mari - November 22, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a good idea, Skylii. I shall edit and do that. :D

|
Well, of course you don't, and that's a good thing. :P I really meant most of my outside, non-'Net friends.
Another reason is that my strict yet strangely likable mom won't allow me to. :( (She dominates the house. Maybe it is for my own good.)
LightningFlash - November 27, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
Nyeh, MSN doesn't hurt. It's just like an MB, but with faster posting. :P

Me neither!
Mari - December 7, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
I don't really mind chat-speak, but if a sentence becomes only chat speak, I get rather vexed.

Mari - December 20, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
Ok, I can't remember who, but somebody said AU and another person asked what it ment. I have to admit it, I didn't either, so I added it to the translation list. I know I'm double-posting, but I would also like to update this thread.
LightningFlash - December 20, 2005 01:48 AM (GMT)
Alternate Universe.
Say, perhaps, a fic in which The One Chosen for Dragon Booster was actually Parm, and Dragon City is actually a medieval castle, and Beau is a mysterious and powerful horse, that'd be AU.

Why am I suddenly thinking of King Arthur and Alexander the Great? :P
LightningFlash - December 20, 2005 11:10 AM (GMT)
Parm the Horse Booster sounds like it could be fun . . . :P
