Title: Artha In 3d!
Description: I try to model him.

Liliwen - February 4, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
Since I want to help with the models for the Alchemist, I thought I'd try to model Artha. ^_^ I haven't finished his hair yet, but tell me if anything is out of porportion and whatnot, or what I could improve on.

Firstly, here's Artha from two slightly different views. This is the closest I can get to a DB-like look. For now. :plot:

In these ones, Artha seems way too...shiny. *should adjust the light and smooth out his face later*

They're nice for the beginning stages. So, what program are you using?

Dragon Fanatic - February 4, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
Dude. That is good!

The Furox - February 4, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
That's pretty good! It even approximates the cel-shading they use in the show.

I only saw a couple of things that don't quite match Artha:

Artha's got a white highlight in the middle front part of his hair. He's got a few tufts sticking up/out as well.

There should be a little bit of black around his eyes (as if he's wearing eye liner).

The corners of his eyes seems little too squared off. His eyes are rectangular, but I think the corners are softer.

His pupils and irises are larger; there should be less white visible.

His skin is a bit too pink. I think it should be a little bit more towards the yellow end.

In your model, his eye on the right seems to have a flat spot on the lower right edge.

For comparison, here's a reference shot I was using.

Great work!

Wow, Liliwen this is awesome, great work.
I think that in the third one, need a little more of forehead and the nose of artha is a little more straight.
But, is an amazing job what you did, besides the details he look exactly like in the series.
What program you used to do it?

Liliwen - February 4, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
First of all, I used Blender to model him. :)

And secondly, thanks for concrit! I haven't found out how to put black lines anywhere else besides on the edge of the object. And the eyes are kind of hard. Since they're not exactly a circle, but more square and flat, I find it's not as easy to make them. Or perhaps I just need to find a good tutorial on how to do that. :plot:

But thanks! :)

Great job Liliwen; it's coming along nicely! Keep up the good work!

OMG, Liliwen!!! That's amazing!!! My only suggestion is adjust the color a pinch. Oh, and on the shiny side view, his forehead is a bit flat. Other than that, GREAT JOB!!! ^_^ :faint:

Can't wait to see more characters!!! ;)

I think the second is the best side view you'll find easily enough. *starts hunting for more to help out*

Thanks for the ref pictures. :) It's hard to find a good side profile of Artha.

I think I got his colour right now, and I adjusted his forehead and eyes.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! :)

How do these look? I just wish I could find a way to get smaller black lines on him as well, like around his nose and mouth.

Amazing job Lilliwen, it looks exactly like Artha.

Red Dragon - February 10, 2008 09:48 PM (GMT)
Great work Liliwen, the last updats looks very much like Artha.

Your way ahead of me in the shading, i don't know yet where to start in Maya for that at the moment.

I know what you meen for reference pics, i'm the same with getting a decent shot of Decepshun from the side.

Can't wait so see more updates.

The Furox - February 10, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
That is truly fantastic, Liliwen! That looks perfect to me. The eyes in particular look really good as does the hair. I can't really see anything that needs changing at this point.

Awesome work! :cookie:

I'm just lucky Blender has an easy "no shading" option. Otherwise I'm not sure I would've gotten a DB-like look.

Holy snap, Liliwen!! The improvement is huge!! It looks MUCH more like Artha!!! :eep: ^_^

Ok, a few teeny-tiny suggestions:

*Artha's hairline has jaggs along his forehead.
*The blue in the back needs to be a little darker
*From the side view, Artha's tufts of hair seem pressed against his forehead.
*His forehead itself, the skin area above the eyebrows, is also really flat. It comes out more. (see side picture)

Here's probably one of the best side views you can get of Artha. It should help you fix the forehead and tufts. (Yes I know I gave you the link last time, but here it is again):
