Title: The Mechanist
Description: Episode twenty-three
Ryshah - November 1, 2005 11:12 PM (GMT)
Okay! I just finished watching it and I'll give you a summary of it. SPOILER ALERT!
In the middle of a race it's obvious that Moordryd has gear that's helping Decepshun with her energy use, but a figure on a roof who we later find out is Rivet of the Mechanists deactivates the gear near the end of the race because Moordryd didn't pay full price. Decepshun doesn't have the energy to finish the race and neither does Beu because Artha spent it all trying to keep up with Moordryd.
After the race Khata is in a panic because Phistus is on the warpath, someone has been looking through all the stalls. Rivet shows up and gives Artha gray assist gear to 'level the playing field'. After Rivet's discovered to be the one rifling through everyone's stalls, a chase ensues, ends in a dead end where he admits that he use to be in the racing academy and that LIBRIS is his dragon! He's looking for the horn to protect it. Artha tells him that the horn is with Precinct.
Back at the stalls there's a brief argument about Rivet getting away. Khata and Sanjo show up and say that the thief is Rivet and they're glad he's not after the horn because there's no telling how much disaster could be caused by the Mechanists having that much power. He then reveals Rivet was kicked out of the academy for using gray draconium in a most questionable way; that his experiments ran towards the ancient arts and that he used it on both dragons and humans.
Dragon Eye compound, Moordryd's mad. The Amulet speaks up and says Moordryd was played for a fool, the Rivet was only after information about the horn because he's a Mechanist.
Mortis's temple. Mortis and Artha are talking about Rivet, Artha's convinced he's good, but Mortis warns that in the past the Mechanists were little better than pirates, selling to the highest bidder. He also explains that gray draconium is the biggest difference between Street and Elite class gear. It's why Libris and the gray dragons were so coveted during the war, to make battle gear. Sirens and red lights begin to flash, and the viewscreen comes down to show Rivet breaking through a glass door and running off. Artha changes to Dragon Booster.
Rivet jumps from a high ledge and runs into a dead end, DB lands behind him. There's a jack-box that activates and Word appears, overriding the ads. There's a brief conversation where Word gets angry and summons three wraith dragons. Beau mags Rivet and they escape.
On a rooftop Rivet tells that many of the gray dragons were altered during the war using a mix of black and gray draconium. DB cuts in with "like the experiments you were doing at the academy before you were kicked out". Rivet admits that he's right, but for "vastly different reasons". Libris isn't alone, there are other gray dragons but they're in hiding and they have been altered. If someone controlled Libris and re-activated the gear they would have an unstoppable army because only Libris could restore their balance. Rivet vanishes after DB figures out that he's trying to get caught so he can get the horn inside precinct.
Word's Citadel. Words angry at Rivet and DB, Moordryd's got a plan because he says he knows the only way out of Precinct.
Down City Council. Everyone's arguing, Phistus silences them and says they must help DC Security to protect the horn from Rivet and the mechanists from getting the horn. Khata and Marianis Join him and leave. Moordryd speaks up and says that they should catch Rivet and use the horn themselves. Temptation sets in, and Pyrrah, Vociferous, Wulf, and their right hand men take off. Cain says it'll be chaos. Apparantly that's the point, there's only one way out of Precinct and when Rivet uses it they'll ambush him and take the horn.
Rivet's been captured, he's inside Precinct. Suddenly he surprises his escort, shoves him into an empty cell, and vanishes.
Outside Precinct, Marianis, Phistus and Khata meet up with DB as Pyrrah, Vociferous and Wulf do. The fight begins, six against four. Captain Fayre orders a warning shot from a mag cannon. A part of the wall slides apart to reveal a HUGE cannon that warms up and fires a warning shot over everyone's heads. The fighting stops but it's a mexican standoff. When no one leaves he orders the cannon to be aimed and fired AT the fighting crew leaders and DB. A sargent protests that DB's down there but does as he's ordered. Rivet suddenly appears from a manhole between the fighters! There was apparently another way out of Precinct. He winks at DB and runs off. Moordryd, watching from a nearby roof is mad that there was another way out and he didn't know about it. The Flares, Voice, and Army go after Rivet thinking he's got the horn. The Big cannon retreats and Fayre comes out to thank DB before it occurs to them to check the horn. Both rush inside to the vault and see the horn, then they leave, thanking the Magna Draconis.
As the vault wall closes and locks behind them, the Horn of Libris . . . flickers. It's a Holo-image.
Somewhere in Dragon City, Rivet holds up the Horn triumphantly.
ow. my fingers hurt . . .

INDEED. O_O Ah, I forgive you, I was like that yesterday anyway.
Skylii - November 2, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
Excellent episode! (And some decent A/K-ness! WH007!) But put on the critical eye, and you know what the biggest problem is?
The holes.
I'm talking plot holes, loopholes, forgotten holes, and that hole Rivett pops out of. (He came out a hole which was a plot hole! *is brick'd for bad pun* :P) The beginning was just fine, I mean, I was like "Huh?" and then I saw Beau's paw and then it's just "...Huh?" and then all of a sudden "Huh? OH! Er, right!". But after it progressed, seemed rather...confusing.
So how did Rivett get some human shadow gear? Is this gray gear? I guess so. And also, Libris was his dragon? Libris was his dragon? And I take it that he was in the Racing Academy WITH LIBRIS? Sorry, it just doesn't fit. Libris is as enormous (and possibly more enormous) than/as Abandonn, Tyrannis Pax, and those two huge orange dragons in the Track of Doom. You can't possibly race a dragon that big. Who'd fall for that? And how did Rivett know about Libris attacking Dragon Booster and Moordryd's compound? Also, Moordryd knowing where the exit to Precinct is. (Yeah...Precinct, or the Dragon City Security compound?) At first I was confused, then I realized whoa! He's probably gotten captured too! (Impressive. Maybe busting out was what got his father's attention well if he was ever caught before. ;)) And the second exit. Where is the second exit? I guess we'll never know, as does Moordryd...
And the Horn of Libris protectors vs. the Horn of Libris wanters. On the HoLP team: Dragon Booster (*dramatic fanfare*), Phistus, Khatah and Marianis. On the HolW team: Pyrrah and other Dragon Flare who might be Blaaze (huh?), Vociferous and Spynn (understandable), and Wulph and Trakkyrr or whatever his name is (HUH?!?!). WHY are the Dragon Flares and the Army of the Dragon on the "bad side" of our situation if they want the trophy for themselves? The Flares I can slightly sympathize with, but the ARMY OF THE DRAGON? Looks like they're power hungry, therefore now the concept here was rather confusing. The fighting, however, was rather good. (Artha's getting physically hurt! At long last!) Khatah's using Spynn's double mag-staff fighting technique, Phistus is using that hammer, Pyrrah's brought back that...mag-cutter thingamajig, and Spynn and Marianis' mag-staff slam was rather an interesting cliche. (The whole concept of girl vs. girl frame was great, IMO.)
Now, for Rivett.
QUOTE
Rivet has NORMAL hair
*laughs* Yeah, I noticed that, but not normal eyes. (Though from what I was predicting, of course I knew it would be conbination grayness, redness, such as that wrist-gear of his.) And he's the third (slightly) major character I've seen wearing billowing clothing! (Word being the first with his robes, and Pyrrah being the second with her jacket/skirt/) However, that guy is really a mystery. The cloak was, err, cliche, but like I said, he's rather okay. (And the accent. Don't know if 'tis be phony or not, but lovely accent. :))
QUOTE
I wish Machina was in it... I wanna know what she looks like!!!
Another thing I liked about this episode was that they made us predict it would be Machina, Lady (or Sir; looks like the latin rule of "A" at end for female names doesn't necessarily apply to such characters) of the Mechanists, but whaddaya know, BAM! New character, who's quite okay in my book. (Though yes, I do wish they'd show us Machina...when I saw Marianis, her attitude didn't really fit her response to Dorsall in "The Chromatic Dragon".)
So basically, all in all, this is a very interesting episode that will replace my current episode nomination for "Most Interesting Episode".

You know, Dragon City Security and their methods of justice are extremely questionable. <_<
Oh yes, I rather found the whole warning mag-pulse and everybody just staying up there, magged, and then the whole "Okay, we'll just...uh, return to our dragons' backs now, thank you, hehe" and being lowered back down slowly very, very amusing.

In the big fight, each person on the opposing forces took a person to attack. They get in a scuffle and artha gets kicked in the back. (Cant remember fully) But yeah something like that.

Red eyes are actually very usual in Dragon City (c'mon, purple and pink eyes. Try telling me that's not unusual in Dragon City), and red blends well with gray. ;) (Just noticed that Rivitt doesn't have any sign of eyebrows, though.)
Draco Malfoy, hehe. You know, if you think about it, Moordryd and Draco are practically alike. Even their eye color and hair (white can be considered a really really light blond) are practically the same!
Mari - November 16, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)
Rivet's eyes weren't too weird looking, except when one realizes that they're RED. I love Rivet! he's my new fave character! :D

We don't know that for sure. For instance, we don't know how long Rivet was exiled from the Academy (and judging from the reactions of the other crews, it doesn't seem too long ago). Also, we don't know exactly the growth rate of gray draconium dragons either, so Libris was either of acceptable size to race at that time or Libris could somehow change his size within reason as Beau could change his colors and probably did it under stress or pressure.
Then again this is just all speculation. ;)

<shrug> makes sense, but how do you explain Word's dragon, Abbandon?
Kereea - November 18, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
I was a little dissapointed in Wulph. First he's oh-so-noble in Prophet's Motive, then he's acting all power-hungry in this. One word comes to mind. Pathetic. I don't know why that came, but it did.
Now Pyyrah, her I can understand. She does seem power-hungry, Fanning the Flames proved this. And finally Vociferous, this sort of works, and I like the whole trickster-gets-tricked thing. That was drac.
I'm still suspicious with Armeggedon I'm 100, make that 96% sure that he's just tricking Moordryd. Let's look at the facts:
1. He shows up when Moordryd is really getting desperate, too convinient for me.
2. If Moordryd is really evil, then it makes episodes like Wraith Booster useless.
3. Why would an evil anchient entitiy want someone else to get a huge amount of power, enough to defeat a hero? seems strange to me.
4. Finally, the only instance I can come up with for the whiole 'find the gauntlet' thing is that maybe the four empires that helped the DB in the end made their own amulets so someone from each could help the DB. This could tie in that Kitt, Parm and Lance use the other three colors (Moordryd is the first). Creepy, sounds like Power Rangers.
Also, another bug. We've barley even heard of the higher class races. When Rivett mentioned the acadamy, I think that was the second time. How can Mortis always talk about saving the world when we haven't even seen the whole city!
Finally, is there a world beyond dragon city for these guys. I mean, it's like three times the size of New York City, but only Mortis ever mentions anything beyond it. Oh, all the questions!

But hey, ppower-hungry-ness is a flaw. A cliche flaw, maybe, but a flaw.
Pyrrah, yes, is understandable. I've levelled it down to her being a flawed character, therefore she is confusing, yes, but also an interesting character.
Vociferous I can also understand. Duh.

1. Moordryd is the perfect enemy for Artha. He hates, check that, loathes Artha, he will do anything for power, and he's torn by three sides: to work for Armeggaddon and for power, to work for his father, Word, and for recognition, and to work for goodwill, for the better. And Armeggaddon has been watching Moordryd "for some time".
2. Nope. This is just character developement, and now that I look at it, extremely interesting developement at that. As I said, three sides: power, recognition, and heroism.
3. It's like Darth Sideous and Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. A matter of manipulation. Besides, once the student is taught, the master can show his true intentions, however, the student defeats the master.
4. No. NO. That is not likable to happen, and if it happens, interesting and unexpected twist, yes, but then as you said, we got the next Power Rangers, using the colors of the rainbow for good will everywhere! <_<

Agreed. Word and Conner probably raced when they were younger, henceforth, the dragons were also younger, and probably smaller.
