Title: Transformers And Beast Wars

Kay Yasha - January 2, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Okay, after sitting down with my five year old cousin and watching a ton of Transformers G1 and Beast Wars with him, I've found myself once again being dragged into a fandom I thought I had abandoned.

I bought the Beast Wars DVD's only to remember my depleting childhood time (almost legal...I'll be eighteen this year) but after seeing them through the eyes of a hyperactive five year old again I've remembered how awesome the Transformers universe is.

I've now purchased $40 worth of Transformers and Beast Wars comic books to satisfy my urge to get back into it. The movie was found resting quite happilly under the christmas tree this year (much to afore-mentioned 5 year old's delight...'Watch it now Kaye!' 'Um...ask your dad Callum...') and is now one of the things I watch between hours and hours of cricket and soppy chick flicks via my mother.

Beast Wars, despite the now lacklustre animation, is still my favorite Transformers fandom. However, I'v found some of the characters I used to like annoying, (Silverbolt...God, just shoot the spider!) some of the ones I used to hate loveable, (Waspinator, 'nough said) and some just seem to carry through the ages (Dinobot, Rattrap, Rhinox and of corse Inferno.)

So, does anyone else have any found memories of Transformers? Or have you been roped back in due to the new movie? (I find myself stalking the samxbee livejournal com.)

Infact beast wars inspired me to watch DB

Partly due to the movie. I used to watch the G1 series when I was 5 or 6. Then, when I'm in my teenage years, I was drawn to Beast Wars and the rather infamous Beast Machines (lots of criticism, I heard  ). Now, thanks to the movie, the old G1 series returned to TV and continued showing it until October.

From G1, my fave is Starscream, Grimlock and Optimus (best hero ever!). From Beast Wars, my fave is Dinobot, Silverbolt and Cheetor.

Overall, I have to say that both G1 and Beast Wars is a revolution to the Transformers franchise. G1 being the great grand-daddy of everything Transformers while Beast Wars formed a successful separate timeline in the Transformers universe (spawning its own anime and manga version).

But anyway, for me, Transformers will always be the one icon that will represent my childhood days.

Oh yes. I didn't like Beast Machines. I felt the characters...changed too much from the series.

(...and she missed Dinobot. Greatly. At least when he died Dinobot 2 came in.)

liked beast wars and beast machines i found quite interesting(though i missed a ton of episodes from both)
i remember watching some transformers thing when i was little where megatron was this 2 headed dragon never really got that series
then armada came out a few years later which was awsome, then energon and cybertron

what i didn't like though is that the story continuity isn't very good.

i've yet to see the new movie, which i think would be very interesting
the old movie i loved

the new transformer series i will NOT be watching, 1. the animation is too kidish, 2. it's just creepy, it gave me a very odd dream last night and i only watched 2 min. of it

SilverDragon - January 3, 2008 07:58 AM (GMT)
The new movie got me into Transformers (and also into wanting to buy Transformers). I feel annoyed at missing the Beast Wars series when it first came out-those toys lok so COOL.

Sarguna - January 3, 2008 11:10 AM (GMT)
Beast MAchine the transformation style is so unacceptable

Not really interested to watch them. Nothing beats the G1 series.

Whah??! :faint: Its the best summer movie of 2007! ;) No Transformers fan should miss it!

Apparently, the old movie draws a lot of bad criticism, mainly from killing off lots of lovable characters. :( It gives me the shudders...

You mean the latest Transformers Animated series? Hmm, can't blame you for that. The art was based closely from Teen Titans if you've watched the series before.

Another thing about the series was that the main villains were humans, under the command of the Decepticons. Since when does Megatron relied on humans to do his dirty work?

I read that the purpose of the human villains being the ones who show up to give the Autobots trouble is to have the Decepticons be more of a background threat. If this translates to 'one Decepticon is more than capable of holding off all the Autobots', then I'm all for it. The most evil menaces in the galaxy should not be defeated in every episode.

The art style is weird, but they have the DINOBOTS.

Where is????
can you pass me the link?

The Transformers episodes, which my father recorded, are the ones I remembered. Like Golden Lagoon, the Gamble, etc. Now I owned the vcd set, right up to the movie. I recorded the series after the movie. I was very happy, when I saw the Arielbots. I did not realize they had survive, until I watched Five Faces of Darkness. As I said, I remember some of the earlier episodes.
I like Beast Wars too. I enjoyed watching it, because I like animals. Since I like animals, I watched the show from the beginning to the end, at least until the Maximals left Earth. Throughout the show, I was always laughing at Waspinton. He always gets damaged, and gets repaired, then gets damaged and gets repaired! It is a never-ending cycle! I had recorded the episodes, when it was first shown. But I taped it over. My favorites were Silverbolt, and Air Razor. When I learned about the Ark and Nemesis, I was happy. I was dreading the moment when Nemesis was raised from its grave. The suspense nearly killed me.
After surfing the Internet, I have been looking for the G1 robots, like Silverbolt, Ravage, and Rampage. I found their original forms.
I watched the Live Action Movie in the economy class cinema hall. I wanted to watch it in Business Class hall, but the tickets were sold for the afternoon section of the first day. If I wasn't working, I would have watched the first slot! I found it fun to watch, and I watched it twice. In Malaysia, it was shown for sixty days. I was really happy, when the tide turned to the Autobots.

befor ei watched some beast wars yesterday i went on wikipedia to look up the episode names when i remembered that the show was called Beasties here in Canada

cheetor, silverbolt, rattrap, dinobot, and waspinator are my fav's

Yup. But most of those characters are returning in the comic books that have just returned to the shelves after their last manufacturer went broke. (Has just spent her money on the THREE source books brought out. Why so many? Forgotten characters.)

In the shows I believe there were 3, Silverbolt (Wolf/Eagle), Tigerhawk (Airrazor-Hawk/Tigertron-tiger) and Quickstrike (Cobra/Scorpion). My favorite is the comic book's Bantor, a tiger/baboon fusion. Drancron, the Unicron assasin is another Fuzor (Lizard/Dragonfly). EDIT I forgot Airhammer, a shark/eagle mix.

And may I just add, DINOBOT is in the comics. Like, ALIVE!

(and you leave Injector alone. He's been re-designed and is a very pretty predacon. LOL!)

I still say the purpose of Injector's existence is to punish all those people who went around screaming 'TRUKK NOT MUNKY' when Beast Wars first aired.

Kay Yasha - January 8, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
I agree. I think Injector'ed like that job.

Injector: (Holding gun to a hardcore G1 fan's throat) Say you accept the changes in the fandom! SAY IT!

Fan: NEVA!

Injector: Don't say I didn't warn you...

Ironically, I'm more of a Decepticon supporter.

Btw, Arthapenn, do you know Transformers G1 is back on Astro? This time it's on Astro Ceria (once showed DB) at 7.30 pm. Hope you get this message. :)

Since when does Megatron relied on humans to do his dirty work?

Well he does uses humans to do his work, but then usually betrays them at the end. Like in Generation one, "Megatron's Master Plan" (I think), he uses a human who had a lot of money and power and made him believe that the Autobots were evil and the Decepticons were good. Soon other people thought the Autobots were evil and they were banished from earth. I could write the whole episode, but that would take too long (and it was in two parts).

Another one is when Megatron askes a doctor to make a mine controling device to control humans. I can't think of the name of the epiodes at the moument, but I think it had five parts.

I watched a bit of Transformers Animated, I didn't think it was that bad. Starscream sounded really good, since I really like the annoying voice of Starscream Generation one. Some people who grow up with Generation one might think differentlly. I wasn't alive when it was on T.V, but thanks to the computer, I can watch all the epiodes.

Kay Yasha - January 10, 2008 07:31 AM (GMT)
I forgot that ep! It must have been hard on the Autobots with their 'not harming humans' approach.

I want to see Ironhide loose it in the movie.

Some Random Soldior: OMG ebil alien robits! (Fires)
Ironhide: For the love of...you know what, I'm not going to take this anymore. (Blasts)
Optimus: IRONHIDE!
Ironhide: ...It was annoying me.

Random Fact Of The Day: The voice actor for Animated Starscream is the same as the VA for Spongebob. YES, REALLY.

I think Animated is awesome, even if the art style is a bit weird.

The Great Grey - January 11, 2008 06:02 AM (GMT)
The only thing that I don't like about the art style is that Starscream has a huge chin. Other then that, I don't mind the art style.

The girl is okay, but it would be nice if she didn't act so kiddy, but a am guessing that the cartoon is aimed at kids under the age of ten. So my guess the main character, has to be made away that kids can relate to.

Thanks for the info, Burnout_Beau. I discovered it by accident, actually. I saw the ending of episode 17.
I was really happy the tide turned to the Autobots. But sadly, Jazz was broken into two pieces.
