The Sci-Fi Channel just started a miniseries here called "Tin Man". It's a re-interpretation of "The Wizard of Oz" and I'm finding it kind of fun. It's very dark and moody, so much so that I don't think it's appropriate for small kids at all. It's done as a drama with a lot of film noire influence. The story is a radical departure from the original, and the characters are pretty much just allusions to their counterparts in the original movie. Purists probably won't like it at all. The reviewer in the local newspaper trashed it with the usual "shouldn't tamper with a classic" spiel, but I never buy in to that line of thinking. As far as I'm concerned, it's basically a different movie and I like dark and moody stuff at times so I'm enjoying it, so maybe you might want to check it out. The Sci-Fi channel is repeating it aggressively, so you can easily still see Part 1 again if you missed it last night. They also allow you watch re-runs on their web site.
