Title: If It Could, Which Way Should The Show Swing?
Description: Darker or Lighter?
MaiBeyblader - November 5, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
Hm, I hope this is in the right place. It's about the show, after all... Anyway, I was watching
Something goin on in Dragon Town on youtube and I thought:
Huh. I enjoy the 'darker' episodes of Dragon Booster. I wonder if Dragon Booster would be better as a darker show. Maybe I should ask on the forum...So here I am, asking. Which way, disregarding the show's rating for a moment, do you think Dragon Booster would be better as: as darker show or a lighter show (kiddie, so to speak)?
I vote darker since I enjoy those better. Wraiths, go! Armmagedon, go! More battles with Armmagedon, go! More two part episodes go! (So much to show, much more info and battles. Yes, in some ways, two parts are better than one)
... as long as the good guys win in the bitter end. :P
black and gold dragon - November 5, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
i chose other. i thionk i mixture of both would be good.
Liliwen - November 6, 2007 01:02 AM (GMT)
I say darker. More chance for cool battles, more struggles, more consequences, more danger, more bad guys, perhaps the bad guys can win at the end of a few episodes, and yeah. :P It'd be more exciting. Plus, the evil guys would be more evil, which makes the hero seem more heroic than if he were to do battle with somone not very evil or bad at all.
Dragon Fanatic - November 6, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
Darker. We need more ebvilness in the show.
Crystal Wildfyr - November 6, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Darker! I'm the same as Liliwen, except, I want Artha to be hurt more often, Beau to be fine, and abandon Artha... (XD)
silverfang - November 6, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
i vote darker because i believe it would move the plot along more smootly. i also wouldn't mind seeing a litle more of an Artha/Kitt connection here ;) (minds out of the gutter people  )
also picture this: Dragon Booster Secret Army (for defensive purposes only of course).
The Furox - November 6, 2007 05:21 AM (GMT)
Darker. Definitely darker.
I prefer all the darker and more mysterious and dangerous episodes. I think it works better and I like the added tension, plus you can get more emotion out of those kind of stories which I think allows the viewer to connect better with the characters. I think it would help make the show appeal to a wider audience as well since light hearted stories looks like kiddie-fare to too many people. Just look how popular the darker anime series all are.

Never gonna happen. <_<
I don't think so, at least. Then again, maybe Beau would leave Artha behind to protect him, much like Darien from Sailor Moon had with Serena when he had dreams she was going to die. *shrugs* Anyway I don't think Beau would abandon Artha. Beau's too good (as in heroic and righteous) for that.
juno - November 7, 2007 01:59 AM (GMT)
*sigh* yeah, darker. this show can afford to be more interesting with cliffhangers. We need more pros and cons in this show.
Elushun - November 7, 2007 03:26 AM (GMT)
I'd go with darker. It does get kind of Scooby-Doo cliched in some of the episodes when evil makes a bid for domination and at the end of the episode there's some mystical deux ex mahcina and the baddies are like "Whoops! Foiled again!" I'd like to see evil gain a foothold for three or four episodes. Maybe even a whole "Darkworld" story arc.
The Hydrag - November 7, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
Sweet I made the 13th darker vote! Any way I allready said so that I voted darker because thats more mystery, action, betrayal and a new whole intellectual depth to it. It would become a lot more popular I think.
Aniu_the_white_wolf - November 7, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
I voted "other", because I didn't know what to put, but I would like to see the Dragon Human War
Burnout Beau - November 9, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
I prefer the show swinging to a more darker, moodier tone. Kinda like the Harry Potter novels. :eep:
Swinging the show's storyline to a more darker theme can make the show more dramatic and suspenseful than ever, just like the Harry Potter stories. Not only will it be more dramatic, but it can also help attract more older audiences to watch the show.
Besides, I always prefer a storyline in which the hero faces a dilemma that he/she must solve. Normally such events may always make the storyline darker than usual, but by going through this self-conflict incident that we can separate the hero from everyone else.
Let Artha and Beau encounter more serious and darker conflicts that would really test their partnership to the limit; let Beau face more issues than Artha on his own since we never had a chance to see that in past episodes; more serious battles and encounters; no more 'joker' episodes like "Three Times A Hero"; more dangerous plans from Word, Propheci or Armeggadon that can really test our heroes' nerves; and more shocking revelations that will leave everyone stunned (character and audience alike).

i don't know about you guys but i'm defonately wondering what Beau os thinking about. o well too bad he can't use words or anything like that. ;)

Oh but that is where the Magna Draconis has allready helped out. There is a thing you learn at the acadaemy and its called Dragon Wispering you actually learn the Dragon Toung and learn to communicate in it. I think that would be one of my favorite classes.

Yeah, the Harry Potter novels seem to strike a good tone overall. It's darker than DB, yet it's not so dark as to be scary for younger kids. Not a bad compromise and it would give the show a wide audience. Of course, I wouldn't mind it if the show went even darker, like say to the level of the X-Files or similar such show. That'd be pretty cool, though admittedly too dark for the kids.

I am dying to know what Beau thinks about! :) It's why I wrote an entire fan fiction told solely from his point of view (see
"There's a Dragon in My Time Machine"). I think having a conversation with Beau would be pretty drac! ^_^
DemonicFury - November 11, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
Warning: Mentioning of death/injury/and scaryness below!
I voted for darker. I want to see some killing! Or at least injuries that last more than two seconds. Like in the last episode. I also want to see bigger, more evil enemies. Like a giant dragon with flesh hanging off and teeth the size of sabres or something. Lke the chromatic dragon excpet worse. Of course, I'll probably never see these things in DB because it's a kids show. Oh well, that's what fan fics are for.

Ah, so you mean like Inuyasha where demons routinely get hacked apart with swords with blood and lumps of flesh raining down upon the ground. Yes, that would be darker alright. ;) And who knows. Inuyasha has a huge world wide fan following, so the show could be popular even if it becomes too intense for kids.

Or in Return of Drakkus part 2. Mortis certainly took a beating in that episode, much more than I would have expected for a "kids" show. That episode must have been borderline on a higher age rating.

Yes, exactly! And I forgot that Mortis got his butt kicked in that episode. Poor Mortis. I may dislike him but he didn't deserve that...
Elushun - November 11, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
What's wrong with Mortis? He was all kinds of badass up in here!
DemonicFury - November 11, 2007 09:44 PM (GMT)
He is on Penn Racing's side. I hate Artha, he is Penn whatever's leader, therefore I hate all members of the crew. Parm and Lance are on my side but Connor/Mortis, Artha, and Kitt are not so I dislike/hate them. I dislike Connor and hate Artha/Kitt. I have my views, you have yours. Deal with it.
Sarah Frost - November 11, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
Parm and Lance are on Artha's side. They're fictional characters and have no clue who you are.
Of course, character preferences are off-topic.

Right, so getting back on topic... Sarah, how do you think the show should go if it could, darker or lighter?

Lighter, totally. I just love jokes about dragon poo.
Renesh - November 14, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
...I'm not sure whether you are being serious or sarcastic there Sarah...But anyway, I would really like to see it go darker. Dark movies and such always seem to hook me. I always like the bad guys too. Huh. Maybe I just want to see a book/cartoon/movie where the bad guys win for once. A little more realistic if you ask me. The good guys don't always win in the real world.
Nowna - November 14, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
Other.Mixture of both
Artha_penn1995 - November 16, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
I said other!
It is much more interesting when somebody is on control of Artha, don't you think? It just shows that there is a strong bond between the two of them. [SIZE=14][SIZE=14]
Empyrean-Dragon - November 17, 2007 05:28 AM (GMT)
A lovely balance of both please!
Darker, for more bad guys, mysteries in Old City, forgotten creatures, character backstory...the good ol' stuff.
Lighter, for the silly jokes and other heart-warming things! :D

*loves you* :P
I went for darker. There're way too many times when there should have been concequences and weren't. Like him or loathe him, you have to admit that Artha makes some seriously stupid decisions, and in a darker show the results from that would certainly force him to either shape up or ship out. His friends might be okay with him now, when everything is Alright In The End, but they'd be less inclined to blind loyalty if people were getting hurt or killed (I hope.)
Rhian - November 18, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
I went for other.
I do believe that the show needs to get a bit darker with cleverly placed jokes to lighten the mood when ever it gets too dark or suspenseful. Also a few sub plots would be nice. (Sorry everyone who might think it becomes too complicated but I love them.)

Oh, absolutely. There's nothing wrong with some comic relief in an otherwise darker storyline. Lots of stories do that. Things on the level of gallows humor can work quite well. The best examples of this in DB are Word's famous vid mail message and Moordryd's "Takes a lot of gel" response to Lance's comment about his "drac" hair. :) Those worked perfectly in an otherwise dark episode. I would say that more of that kind of humor is quite welcome.

Yep, those are good too! Inuyasha has a quite a few sub-plots with the different recurring characters. Given it's one of the most popular anime shows out there, I'd that most fans are quite comfortable with it.

I hate, loath and abhor dragon poo jokes. I cannot tell you how much I do not like those jokes. (I get that you're being sarcastic though.)
And I still stand beside 'darker'!
