Inheritance trilogy to become a four-book trilogy? Reminds me of the Scary Movie 4 theme, "The fourth and final chapter of the trilogy". Got it?
So, what do you think the fourth book's gonna be about? Eragon and Arya's honeymoon? Or Galbatorix decided to be an undead?
atomicnewt2552 - November 9, 2007 01:31 PM (GMT)
couldnt all fit in one book, actually. some big 100 page moral quandry in book three
black and gold dragon - November 9, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
personally i tink they will meet other dragons. lol, maby even saphira have a hatchling. love to see or read eragon killing galbatorix. wonder what the green dragon's name'll be. they had ideas on a site or like blade.lol.

I want to see the next movie, because I haven't read the book. Good plot though!
The Hydrag - November 12, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
Geez they are making a 4th book!?!?!? Good gravy man, cant they let something die in peace? (Well the books are OK but the movies are TERRIBLE!) So now its a Quartet not a trilogy.

According to Pao-Pao, he's calling it the Inheritance Cycle. Which makes it sound all mythic, unless you hate the books, then it sounds pretentious.
Yeah, why make a fourth book? He says it's because he couldn't fit everything into one book, but some people are saying it's so he can throw off accusations of plagiarism from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, because those were trilogies, and now In(credibly-boring)heritance is a CYCLE.

I haven't read the books, so I can't really comment on them. Saw the movie Eragon and thought it was so-so at best. On the one hand, I wanted to like it because there are so few dragon movies being made. But on the other hand, I found the story to be unfulfilling and not terribly interesting. I put it in the "worth renting once" category.
At the end of the day though, more books are being written because the previous ones are selling well. If you look at the sales ranking and feedback ratings on amazon.com, there's no denying that the books are popular. As long as that remains the case, then I'm sure the author will keep churning them out.

well, just so you know, there will never be an Eldest movie, and Fox got the names of characters and places in Eragon and just made their own story. The movie was as much like the book like a pile of crap is to cheesecake. The movie was a terrible adaptation. bleh. horrible.

I have a feeling that there are few dragon movies because there are only so many ways you can portray fire-breathing reptiles (at least in the mind of a Hollywood exec):
1) Benevolent and misunderstood (Dragonheart).
2) Raging agents of destruction (too many to name, but Reign Of Fire is an example).
3) Flying pretty horses that breathe fire/ice/whatever takes their fancy (Eragon).
4) A combination of the above three points.
Point 3 is true for Inheritance because that's essentially what Saphira does: she carts Eragon around, fights evil, and interjects her own thoughts every now and then. Nothing more. She's like a flying car with a bazooka and a brain.

thats not true! she is an intellegent young ire breathing dragon! shame on you. there are few dragon movies and you go around critising the one that actually makes sense. she is not a flying car with buazuka and a brain! if it is as people say a rip off of star wars then i dont care! it makes morwe sense to me than star wars anyway! plus it teaches the morale lesson freindship! jeeze. <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_< <_<
sorry bout the outburst

Meh. We're all entitled to having an outburst. Plus I think I was just randomly saying crap about Saphira anyway (although people have actually said stuff like that).
Thinking of which, I must read Eragon again. I liked that book.

That does seem to be the case for Hollywood, doesn't it. And I find it very unfortunate.
What I'd really like to see is for someone to just come up with a good action/adventure story and "cast" dragons for all the parts. Have it take place on a planet inhabited by sentient dragons and just have the story work in that environment without any humans around. It could sort of be along the lines of Jim Henson's "Dark Crystal" (but I don't mean it should have puppets; I'm talking about the story perspective where it's all devoid of humans). Or maybe better yet do it along the lines of Disney's "Dinosaur" with CG dragons appearing on live action backgrounds to give the whole thing a photorealistic look. I know Saphira was like that in "Eragon", but that movie was really about the human characters and the dragon was just along for the ride from a story perspective. Same is true for "Reign of Fire". I want to see dragons driving the story, not just being there! :) A movie like that could be so much fun to watch.

Like what's mentioned here
in this topic?Note that both news could just be rumours. That's what I perceived it to be. :poof:

Four books? Bleh... I almost got sick reading the second (memo to self: Don't read the hardcovers-they hurt).
The movie was bad. Saphira and her voice was the only worth while bit of it. *sighs* And there won't be a second movie? Just as well. They'd probably muck up the second book worse than they did the first. Ah well.
