Title: 3d Model Of Beau I Designing

Red Dragon - September 21, 2007 07:06 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone, I just thought i'd share my work with you and say what a great site, lets keep Dragon Booster ALIVE.

I'm at the moment modeling Beau but i may model Artha (i havn't done human models just yet).
I'm thinking of also for this scene of modeling the track or the stables, not sure yet.
In the future i will also model the other dragons.
This model is taking a while so please bare with me.

Here are the pics, please tell me what you think...
The front view of him doesn't look right but i'm working on it.

Hey, that's pretty cool! The legs and feet look right and the head is good. Though I think the chin should taper more to a rounded point and not be so square. The abdomen seems a bit too narrow as well. All the dragons do seem to have tiny waists, but not quite this much. :) Also, I think the tail should be a bit flatter and less cylindrical looking.

But I'm not trying to be hard on you since it does look really good overall. Just pointing a few things out since you asked. :)

So which software package are you using?

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Burnout Beau - September 21, 2007 08:40 AM (GMT)
Impressive-looking model! :) Wonder how it'll turn out when it's done... ;)

Da Suga Queen - September 21, 2007 10:30 AM (GMT)
Wow, these are really great! I'd really like to see them when they're finished, although I do agree, the front on one doesn't look quite right just yet, but I"m sure you'll get it soon.
Drac job!!! :cookie: :) ;)

Airshadow - September 21, 2007 11:33 AM (GMT)

Thanks..

One day maybe i might be designing game models, i can only dream that the day will come.
I am nowhere near a pro at modeling, i just do it in my spare time, mainly at the weekends but do try at any time i get.

Just a small update :

Have updated his chin, now more round,
Messed around with the tail a bit, not sure on it at the mo,
'Fatened' him a little bit,
And put those things above his head when he goes racing.

Tomorrow i might give it a go at colouring him to see what he looks like then i can decide what to edit more.

That... is... AMAZING!

That's so awesome! You have such amazing talent!

I think why the head-on picture doesn't look so well is that he needs to be wider overall. If you look at these screenshot-based pictures (One, Two, Three) Beau has a fairly wide head and chest. Filling him out a little would probably help with that.

Otherwise, keep up the awe-inspiring work!

Darkphyre - September 21, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Absollutely awesome stuff.. Nice work!!

arrow - September 21, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
these are abosolutly awsome! have a cookie and bonemark! :cookie: :order:
the claws are just awsome!
in your first post the thrid pic, beau's head doesn't quite fit with the rest of the body

the things on beaus head are from when he uses aero gear

hmm, might need to fatten him up just a little more ;) doesn't look quite right

Dragon Fanatic - September 22, 2007 01:06 AM (GMT)
Those are so awesome! Have a cookie! :cookie:

koering - September 22, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)

Dragon Fanatic - September 22, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
Oh! I completely forgot about the color! :D

Me need to see in color!

Alexander - September 22, 2007 03:05 AM (GMT)
the bump on the under side of his tail...I think it should go on the top, where his butt meets....like in the show ^;=;^ but his chin come out nice...you are very good and if you keep this up...you will be doing games in no time

Nayade - September 22, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Awesome work!! keep up :)

BlueBooster - September 23, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
wow can't wait to see it finished then you can do all our family dragons and stuff and make a movie or something :P

Dragon Fanatic - September 23, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
I still think he needs a little fattenting up to, but not that much. We don't want him to turn into a Cyrano.

dragon_racer - September 24, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
this is great stuf and i'v gotta agree with
everyone else on the comment and such
keep it

Red Dragon - September 28, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the comments peeps.

I have just a very small update :D , sorry for lack of updates, i didn't relise how long it was going to take laying all the UV's out to colour him.

I have fatened him up just a little bit, adjusted a couple of other bits and i'm about to go to bed ;) .

I went by the screenies i took from the series about the bumbs on his butt so to speak (sorry Beau), there is the larger bump under the tail and a small one on top. I used episode 2 when Artha first see Mortis and Beau walks right in front of the camera.

I will finish off the racing colours asap and then rig him so i can do different poses and open his mouth.

After that, hopefully, i will be doing the booster form and maybe animate him.

Ahh, you want to see a pic of him coloured....

The first one was just to see how it looked all coloured.
second one is one i just finished just before the comp crashed so only one side is coloured.

P.S. Allye , i like your sig, thats funny..

hope you enjoy them.

Wow... he looks much better!

But now for concrit time ^_~

Don't forget the darker stripes along his underside. Also, Beau as a star mark on his left flank marking him as a dragon of Penn Racing.

Keep up the amazing work.

The Furox - September 29, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
That's really excellent, Red Dragon! :cookie:

And you're right about Beau's tail: there is supposed to be a bump of sorts near the base. I think it's supposed to be more of a fin type of thing. His tail seems flatter near the base and it seems to flatten out a bit to be a little fin-like on the top and bottom. The fin ends abruptly near the base and looks a bit like a bump. I guess it's for aerodynamics when he's running at 200 MPH. :)

I think his abdomen might be a bit too narrow still, but it's pretty close. Also, in the image it sort of looks like his abdomen expands again below his waist line which shouldn't be the case.

And in addition to the banding on his underside that Dana Phantom pointed out, Beau also has both a darker and lighter area of blue around his eyes. See my fan art of Beau. And don't forget to color in his nostrils. :)

I'm not trying to criticize by the way. Just trying to help fill in the details if you want to go that far. :)

It's really cool to see the difference with and without that light blue line on him. It's amazing how much that little blue line adds to his overall look. Guess it's like a racing stripe. :D

Very cool work, Red Dragon. This will have to go on dragon-city.org when you're done. Can't wait to see more!

Deathshallcome - September 29, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Oh my! Fabulious job Red dragon! That is wicked!

Red Dragon - September 30, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the all the comments.

A couple of updated pics.

Both sides coloured,
Stripes on the belly,
And the Star mark on the leg.

The star is a little bit smaller due to the model, i seems to fit and look better this way, otherwise it is stretched. Also this will allow me to make him different colours easier.

When i done the shading on him (darker blue) it diddn't look right so i abandened it and made some shaddows instead, might go back to the eyes though.

I will tweak the model a bit more, just got to pop out for a bit :( .

I know i won't get him exactly to the series but close enough will be good.

Pics are 1024 x 768 so you can see detail more, still alot of tweaking to do.

Full
Star

Deathshallcome - September 30, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)

Deathshallcome - September 30, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
maybe you could :plot: make a decepshun one after this one :plot: :plot:

Shining-Dragon - September 30, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
or would you be willing to --do requests?

The Furox - September 30, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
That is absolutely awesome looking, Red Dragon!! You really have talent for modeling!

I fully realize that there's a limit to how much time you want to invest in this and it does look great the way it is. If you had time for one more thing, I would go for the coloring around the eyes. The traditional darker colored eye circle used in animation makes the eyes seem larger than they actually are and much more expressive. And Beau's eyes are so expressive that it would be great to mirror since I think you could get much more emotion when you start posing the model.

And before everybody piles on and starts asking for requests, I'll point out that Red Dragon never said anything about taking requests. So let's give our resident modeler a little breathing room. :)

Dana Phantom - October 1, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
My goodness I'm jealous! I wish I had your kind of skill. Ah, well, if I had that I couldn't keep up with my theories on the inner workings.

But now I am getting off topic!

I agree with the Furox about the eye thing. Right now his eyes look small and narrow, which is generally taken as someone who is mean and can't be trusted - and we can't have our Dragon of Legend be portrayed as that!

Other than that, I think he's perfect! Keep up the wonderful work. I really can't wait to see how he looks in Legendary form, and see anything else you have in store for us.

Yeah, really! I've played with Maya just a little and it is a seriously intense program to master. Makes Photoshop look like a cake walk! I would love to be able to model stuff like that, but I don't think I'm likely to be able to develop the skill. I'll settle for marveling at your work, Red Dragon. Hope you continue to do more!
