Title: If The Dragons Could Talk...
Description: Who should do the voices?
The Furox - August 25, 2007 06:49 AM (GMT)
Let's pretend the show was designed a little differently and the dragons could talk. Who do you think would be the best person to do the voices if you were the casting director?
You can pick anyone you like, living or dead. The reason you can pick deceased people is that anyone with a distinctive voice like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart or Elvis, has someone in the present day who can imitate them.
If the person you're suggesting isn't well known, name a role or two they've done so we know what you mean. If you don't know the person's name, please make a little effort to look to it up and don't just say "there was this guy I saw on TV once who would be perfect for ..." since that doesn't really say anything useful. Good places to look up actors is on
imdb.com,
tv.com and
wikipedia.org.
Also, if the person you name is known for doing many diverse voices, be sure you say which voice the person does that you're thinking of.
Here are my suggestions:
Beau - Matthew Broderick - adult Simba in The Lion King
Wyldfyr - Jeff Bennett - Brooklyn in Gargoyles
Cyrano - Bill Fagerbakke - Broadway in Gargoyles and Dauber on Coach
Fracshun - Thom Adcox-Hernandez - Lexington on Gargoyles
Decepshun - Marina Sirtis - Demona on Gargoyles and Counselor Deanna Troi on Star Trek Generations (though younger sounding)
Libris - James Earl Jones - Darth Vader
Abandonn - Tony Jay - Anubis on Gargoyles, Shere Khan on Tale Spin and numerous other video game and cartoon voices
Propheci - Michael Kopsa - already the perfect voice!
Shock-Ra - David Carradine - Bill in Kill Bill - but younger sounding
I can't think of a good voice for T. Pax, Coershun, Phorrj, Hyve and so on. The problem is we don't see enough of their personalities to really know what to pick. Can't think of a good voice for Furox either. He needs a voice that continuously expresses total rage and anger. Not sure what would fit.
So what's your list look like. :)
The Hydrag - August 25, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)

Emmanuelle Vaugier: Decepshun
Jensen Ackles: Coershun

Whew. That was hard.
Burnout Beau - August 26, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Voice actors for dragons, eh? Hmm, looks like I have a lot in mind so I may end up putting one to three extra choices for each dragons:
Cyrano - Kevin Michael Richardson (from Lilo and Stitch as Gantu)
Fracshun - Jake Lloyd (from Star Wars: Episode 1 as 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker), Nancy Cartwright (from The Simpsons as Bart Simpson)
T.Pax - Peter Cullen (from Transformers as Optimus Prime)
Abandonn - Hugo Weaving (from Transformers movie as Megatron)
Wyldfyr - Ian James Corlett (from Beast Wars as Cheetor)
Decepschun - Venus Turzo (from Beast Wars as Blackarachnia), Rachel Weisz (from Eragon as Saphira)
Coerschun - Scott McNeil (from Beast Wars as Rattrap)
Furox - Jess Harnell (from Transformers movie as Barricade)
Beau - Oh, boy...Scott McNeil (from Beast Machines as Silverbolt), Daniel Radcliffe (from Harry Potter movies), Elijah Wood (from Legend of Spyro as Spyro)...but I do agree with Furox about Matthew Brodrick too.
Brutaris - Michael Clarke Duncan (from Brother Bear as Tug)
Libris - Charlie Adler (from Transformers movie as Starscream)
The Hydrag - August 26, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
Wow Burnout Beau those are great choices. I dont know hardly any ones names that are actors so I was thinking Anthony Hopkins( I think that is the guy who did the 3 first Hannibal movies )for Libris. He can be a lunatic psycopathic killer mentality while being the most briliant man you have ever talked to. So Ill ost it in the clear so people can see my choice easier.
Anthony Hopkins: Libris.

I changed the one on Decepshun! Lenore Zann! She plays Kitt, but if you heard her as Master Cyclonis, her voice screams Decepshun!

Ooo yes, that would be a good voice. Maybe just pitch the voice a touch deeper since Decepshun is big relative to a human and I think the dragons need slightly more commanding voices. That's why I picked Marina Sirtis for Decepshun myself.
I was also thinking about:
Beau - Kevin Bacon - using his Balto voice, but pitched just a little younger
His voice for Balto was warm and sincere, and suggested inner strength which I think would fit Beau perfectly.
And I still think James Earl Jones (Mufasa, among many other roles) would be just perfect for Libris. The deep bass of his voice is so suited to a huge and ancient dragon like Libris. His voice has such presence to it which I think is what Libris is all about. I can just picture it so easily!
Dragon Fanatic - August 29, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah, now Emmanuelle Vaugier can be Phorrj
koering - September 1, 2007 03:53 AM (GMT)
i think for tyrannis pax his voice should be Liam Neeson from The Chronicles of Narnia as aslan.
And the voice for Decepschun should be Wanda Sykes from monster in law as ruby. or also in evan almighty as Rita Daniels.
oh and the voice of fracshun should be Zach Tyler from Avatar the last airbender as aang and from the ant bully as Lucas Nickle.
arrow - September 1, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
me :D for hyve i think :P
Rob Paulson would be good for so many of the dragons
his Pinky voice would be good for gunny probably
his Mr. opportunity voice for beau (have you seen the comercials)
or his yakko voice for beau, or frachun
it's so hard to place voices for differnet dragon because i have heard all he could do
the guy who does the piggy bank in toy story would be good for cyrano or brutaris
(i forget the guys name, he was on dancing with the stars)
i'll check wikipedia later on
chetor does sound good for wyldfyr, except he'd need to sound more mature

Wanda Sykes as Decepshun? That one I have a hard time picturing. ;)

His Mr. Opportunity voice could work for Beau. Not sure about the Yakko voice though. :)

It's John Ratzenberger. Going for a more toony feel, huh? :) How about Charles Fleischer doing his Roger Rabbit voice for Wyldfyr? That would really change the whole tone of the show, wouldn't it. :D

hmmmm i dont know what that sounds like???? never heard of the name master cyclonis.
Dragon Fanatic - September 5, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
Master Cyclonis is the main villian of Storm Hawks. I'd say she's around 14 with twice the brains that Word has. :P (Sorry Word. But give her age and her plans, she way outnumbers you ^_^ )
And yeah, we already established that Lenore Zann would be good for Decepshun. (I mentioned it a few posts above. My second post about the voice of Decepshun)
SilverDragon - September 6, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
I think whoever did Cheetor's voice in Beat Wars would be perfect for Fracshun. The two seem so alike.

That's a good voice, but I think that voice fits Cyrano better. :) Both he and Junko are the big, strong characters with a big heart, but probably aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer if you get my drift.
Hmm, I gotta think of a good alternative now for Coershun. :)
Deathshallcome - September 6, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
its gotta be someone who can act frightened all the time. Cuz Coershun is always running or hiding from something.... hmmmmmmmmmm.... how about Robin Williams?

That person was Ian James Corlett. But as far as Cheetor's voice is concerned, I think it's a bit too old for Fracshun. Maybe Wyldfyr is a better choice for the voice. ;)

Nah. He sounds too old for Coerschun's role whom I presume to be much younger for his liking. Maybe Scott McNeil who provides the voice for Rattrap from Beast Wars is a much better choice due to the rather squeaky voice he did for Rattrap. :D
Squeaky voice is appropriate for someone like Coerschun, right? :P
Dragon Fanatic - September 8, 2007 02:46 AM (GMT)
Umm, I don't think that Coershun would have a squeaky voice. THat's more Fracshun style.

I picked Coerschun to have a squeaky voice because of his scaredy attitude towards yellow-bellied newts, especially in "Faster than Fear".
Fracshun doesn't seem to show that much fear compared to Coerschun. ;)
Dragon Fanatic - September 9, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but Fracshun's younger so he'd have a squeaky voice.
I'd say an actor/actress who can sound all tough and stuff and then make a squeaky voice when scared would be good for Coershun
The Great Grey - September 15, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
Here are some people I would chose for voice acting
Beau - Scott Menville (as Lioyd Irving in Tales of Symphonia)
Decepshun - Jennifer Hale (as Sheena Fujibayashi in Tales of Symphonia)
Fracshun - Maile Flanagan (as Naruto) or Andrew Sabiston (as Yoshi in the Super Mario World Show).
If Armeggaddon had a dragon - Paul St. Peter (as nine-tailed fox from Naruto)
Abandonn - Phillip Bartlett (as Mewtwo from Pokemon)
Coershun - Wayne Grayson (As Joey Wheeler in Yu-gi-oh. I have no clue why I picked Wayne Grayson for Coershun, but he sounds so funny when they have those silly moments in the show) or Danny Wells (as Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, but less Italin.)
Hyve - Sonja Ball ( As Polly Esther in Samurai Pizza Cats because she bosses Speedy and Guido all of the time)
koering - September 16, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
Master Cyclonis's voice should totally be deception's voice!!!!!! It would sound really good.

uhhh i dont know about junko's voice. how i am picturing it, it looks a little funny. but hey mabey it could look ok.

That would be a wonderful idea!
... Except Peter Cullen plays Connor ^_^ I figured this out when I was watching some old Transformers: Beast Machines, and thought, "DUDE! Optimus Primal sounds just like Connor!" A little Wikipedia-ing later, and I found Peter Cullen.
I love how this works out , though - the guy that actually plays the rider picked play the Dragon. It just goes to show you how similar dragon and rider are supposed to be. And how similar dragon and rider are in our heads.
As for other dragons... I have no idea! ^_^

The voice actor for Optimus
Primal in Beast Wars/Beast Machines is actually Gark Chalk
(wiki link), who also provides the voice for Conner Penn.
Peter Cullen did the voice for Optimus
Prime in the original Transformers cartoon that aired during the eighties.
I cannot think of any ideas for voice actors for the dragons in DB. There are already many great suggestions and I do not have anything to add. :)

... D'oh
I knew Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal are different characters, but I could have sworn I read somewhere that they were voiced by the same actor. I don't remember where I read that, so it may have been faulty info. Thanks for pointing that out for me! Have a cookie :cookie:
