Title: Dragon Characters
Description: Do you know any?
Burnout Beau - June 15, 2007 05:33 AM (GMT)
This came to me when I noticed there aren't many animated series on TV in which the dragons have a main role. Just wanna know what other dragon characters you know on TV (apart from DB, that is).
For a start, here are some dragon characters I saw appear on animated series:
1. Jake Long (plus various others, from American Dragon: Jake Long)
2. Dragaunus (from Mighty Ducks)
3. Blue Dragon (from Blue Dragon)
4. Shiron (from Legendz: Tales of the Dragon King)
5. Charizard (you don't know where he's from?)
Here are some animated series that has dragons in them, but don't know their names:
1. Mon-Colle Knights
2. Dragon Drive
3. Dragon Flyz (almost resembles Eragon)
Know anymore that I missed out? You can also add in dragon characters from books if you wanted to. :)

Well, considering this topic is on general dragon characters, regardless of where they're from, I guess that counts too. ;)

There was a show awhile back called Dragon Hunters too bad it got cancelled, they had a sweet opening theme by The Cure. Anyway, most of the dragons are just generic feral villans, (Though their species were extemely varied and interesting.) but the dragon hunters have an ally called Hector who is a definate main character. He's a two foot furry critter nonetheless identified as a dragon. He helps scent out target dragons and even speaks english to a limited extent.
There is, of course Draco from Dragonheart. (Awesome movie coated in awesome sauce, go watch it. now.) He is among my favorite characters. Plus Sean Connery is the best at whatever it is he happens to be doing at the time. (Best James Bond, Best dragon voice, Best eccentric father who randomly shows up with world-threatening excuses for you to skip out on the archaeology class you're teaching etc.)
I'll add more if I think of them.

Draykor (from Di-Gata Defenders. She's a small ice dragon. Though she isn't too often seen, she's still a dragon. ;) )
Thaat's all I can think of right now...

How about Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh. And alot more others that will take me all day to name.
Also Bulshuck Dragon (I think thats how you spell it) from Duel Masters.

I don't think that they really count as characters, although they're really cool, they just destroy stuff.
The Hydrag - June 16, 2007 06:15 AM (GMT)
Well I thought of 2 more. The dragon in Dragon ball Z which is allmost like a god and if it counts there is a kid in the animae calles bleach that for his powerfull moves to destroy his more powerfull opponents he turns into an ice dragon.
There ya go.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Dragoon from Beyblade. Personally, I think he's one of the coolest looking eastern dragon in an anime series apart from the various dragons in Dragon Drive.
Then, there's also Bahamut from Final Fantasy. Personally, he looks best in FF8.

Speaking about books, have anyone heard of Dragon Champion and Dragon Avenger by E.E. Knight? By far it's the only book that put the dragons as the main characters and not side-by-side with humans. In fact, a third book entitled Dragon Outcast is due December. Can't wait for its release.

In Beast Wars Megatron was a dragon for a short while. I think it was just after Depth Charge entered, but I could be wrong.
Oh! And the Namek's dragon from DBZ. His name wasn't Shenron...I think it started with P. And all the evil dragons in DBGT too.
Leviathan from Final Fantasy was very dragon-like. I think he was also a monster that patrolled the oceans in the Bible.
And before we go all out with Cartoon dragons, let's not forget the dragons from Myth and Legend around the world. Each race had it's own kind of dragon, and they all had different ways of doing things, from the violent European dragons to the sometimes heplful Asian dragons to the Australian creator god the Rainbow Serpent.

Oh yeah! How could I've forgotten about Spyro, the most popular dragon character in the gaming world. ^_^
I must admit that although I didn't play most of his games, I find that Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning is one of the nicest ones I've ever played.
What's more, there's gonna be a sequel to the game coming out this fall! You can look here:
http://www.spyrothedragon.com/us/index.htmlFrom what I've seen, this game seems to have a more darker tone to it judging by the type of music played (kinda reminds me of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"). And looks like Cynder (the first game's final boss) will feature alongside Spyro too.
Khatah - June 28, 2007 07:25 AM (GMT)
You just reminded me of a dragon character from harry potter. The Hungarian Horntail, The Short Snout, The Chinese Firebolt, Romanian Richback and Norbit.
DragonboosterGirl - June 29, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
Chibisuke,Gorao, and Canper from Dragon Drive
Nemi the Nen - June 29, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Quetzalcoatl from Aztec mythology. Amongst so many blood thirsty gods he was a benefactor and where the men of the culture sacrificed blood to the other deities, cutting out hearts and placing them in stone mouths to feed the gods, Quetzalcoatl asked, instead, for butterflies, to spare human lives and suffering.
Draco from Dragon Heart of course.
Does Paladine count? Despite the the shakey ending in Dragons of the ___ Moon, he got major props from me for what he did.
some others, but I have a midterm coming up so can't call their names up now.

Ooh, Angel fought a dragon in the series finale of Angel
Da Suga Queen - July 1, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
what about the Dragonkeeper books? There's Long Danzi and Kai Duan in them, and also the How to train your Dragon series, which I"m sure Brightclaw knows all about. :D
Aerodragon Highflyer - July 3, 2007 05:35 AM (GMT)
There's also plenty of dragons listed in Dr. Earnest Drake's book Dragonology. The European, the knucker, frost dragon, lindworm, African wyvern, Tibetan lung, Asian and Japanese lung, North and South American amphitheres, and marsupial dragons are all mentioned there.
In the cartoon movie The Pagemaster there is a very cool dragon (no name given); the book The Hero and the Crown (forgot its name and gave away the book <_< ); one female dragon called Vollys in The Two Princesses of Bamarre; and I think there's quite a few in the Deltora series somewhere; not to mention the flightless dragons in the Spiderwick Chronicles.
That's all I have for now. :D
