Title: Race Formats In Dragon City
Description: Help me make the definitive list
The Furox - June 3, 2007 08:27 PM (GMT)
I want to add a description of all the various race formats we see in the show to the
Kitt's Guide to Dragon City section of dragon-city.org, and to I want to see if I have the complete list or not. For the purposes of this list, I want to stick with the races we actually see in the show itself. So even though Kitt mentions the race in the Fire Caves in episode 1, we never see this particular race so it won't be on the main list. Though it is likely to be the same type of race we see in "Cain's Mutiny", so who knows, maybe I'll list anyways. (I'm still deciding how to organize this section.)
Anyway, let's see if I've correctly remembered all the named races in the show:
Generic Street Race - these are the ordinary races we see in shows like episode 2. No special challenges; just be the first to the finish line. These aren't named, but it needs to be listed since they're so common.
Horn of Libris ChallengeMarathon Race - from "Track of Doom", we only see a piece of it, but that counts
Gauntlet ChallengeLeap of LoriusSurvival DomeWe see several other races in season 3 for the various Academy trials, but I don't recall these as being named races which is what I'm after here. But maybe I'll list them in an "Academy Trials" sub-section. Or were some of these races named and I missed it?
And of course, no guide to Dragon City would be complete without mentioning the additional sports:
JoustingDrag BallSo can anyone think of any
named races or events that I've missed?
Does anyone want to help me write accurate descriptions of these races? :)

in the Chromatic Dragon we see every one waiting for the All Terrain race
there's also the vortex relay, but that would be an academy race i guess
can't really think of anything else

Ah, the Vortex Relay was in "Framed", right? Good. That's another one for the list. Thanks.
We didn't actually see the All Terrain race in "The Chromatic Dragon" but it's probably worth listing in an "Other" section since it is mentioned by name.
Am I missing any others?

There's the Extreme G Competition from Paynn Rising, The Heart of the Dragon survivor race from No Paynn No Gain, Academy Skills Competition from Changelings, and does that sledding track from Battle for the Ages count?
Then there are all the races listed on the main site, which isn't back up yet, but I have the list from there. Shadow Race, Quintathalon, The Tandem Hunt and Extreme Dragon. Those are the ones that haven't already been listed...
Who knows what these races are, we certainly haven't seen most of them, they're just listed as some of the crews best races.

Ah, good. I missed those, too.

It would if they had named the event. I don't believe they did though. Maybe I'll just list it as a generic Academy competition.

I probably won't list those since I want to stick with what's shown in the actual show for now. Or maybe I'll put them in a separate list.
Thanks for pointing these out. Anyone notice any others I've missed?

I can't remember what episode it was, but I think there was a racetrack called the Snakes' Tail. I remember Parm or Lance said there was a lot of bashing and smashing, but its a little fuzzy.
The Hydrag - June 7, 2007 05:02 AM (GMT)
I know there is a named race where Artha uses his level 9 ramming gear to swat Moordry out of the air like a pesky fly but I forget which race that was.

That was a part of a race. Its conceld from the viewers so the racers do a lot of shady stuff in there.

I have a chart of the leap of Lorius, but it's not to scale, would you like to see it the Furox?
The Furox - August 15, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
Sure, why not. :) You can post a link to it here.
Crystal Wildfyr - August 16, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
It's not to scale and I made up the longer route up. Lemmie scan it into the computer... and loadit to photobucket...

The Lava course from Into the Fire. I think that was what it was called anyway... :plot:
Nowna - October 12, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Snakes' Tail was in the episode Into the Fire
Da Suga Queen - October 13, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
no, i meant where Pyrrah takes Lance. She says "we shall race through my Lava Course" but I'm not sure if that's a real racetrack or just a personal one.
The Furox - October 13, 2007 05:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm not sure the Lava Course is an official track either. It might be though. In episode 1, Kitt said she beat most of the other racers in the Fire Caves, so maybe it refers to the same course.
Nowna - October 13, 2007 09:34 PM (GMT)
It is. They rase throu it in Cain's Mutiny. I think.

It was shown in Cain's Mutiny.
Elushun - January 26, 2008 05:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I remember that. Parmon said that "the most effective strategy would be to emulate the actions of the favored racer for this track." Which Lance interpreted as "Follow Pyrrah, she knows the fire caves."

Lance is knowledgeable too, I am pleased. Pyyrah knows the fire caves, like the back of her hand.
