Title: City Names?
Description: Help me come up with some...please!

Liliwen - May 30, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
I think someone has asked this question for the Magna Draconis for the next round, but I can't be sure if that one will be picked. And besides, I'll probably get the next chapter for my story up before then, so I need suggestions on what to call the cities.

For one of my fanfics, I need names for all the cities. The ones I came up with so far...

Gold Dragon City (That's a given.)
Blue
Green
Red Tempo City, or Inferno City
Black Vision City
Light Blue Torrent City
Light Green
Grey
Turquoise
Purple
Orange
White Wind City
Brown Earth City?

Now I'm not sure if there is a light green or orange city, but so far I'm going with the light green city's location is known only to the Keepers Crew, and the orange city is...deserted? I'm not sure what I'll do with those. But input and city names would be nice. :)

And I probably will keep the black and white city names the same, since I already used those in my fic.

Sarah Frost - May 30, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
I like yours! :D Especially the Red and Black names. Good reference to the gauntlet of sight!

I've done it too:

Fire City: Waaay too obvious! Set near a chain of volcanoes.

Dominion Town (orange): A small, poor outpost built over abandoned Prophet ruins.

Plow City (green): The major site for food production.

Key City (light green): Includes a famed Tech Academy that’s as good as the Academy in that regard. I think it might be distinguishable from the Keepers Crew. *shrug*

Balance City (blue): Near Dragon City, and the geographical centre of the continent.

Sea City: Again, waaay too obvious!

Traitor’s Gate: A remnant of the Purple Empire which kept the name given to it by Red conquerors long years ago.

Jewel City: Turquoise, of course!

Stone City (brown): Mining city.

White Cliffs: Ah, yeah! I like the image of chalk-pale cliff sides amidst windswept caverns.

Shade City: Black.

Bone Wilderness (grey): Contains a bunch of spread-out small Mechanist settlements and is where they go out gathering their grey draconium.

Dragon Fanatic - May 30, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
i had to do this once. except it was a social project. ^_^ you help me with my fanfics so i'll return the favor. :) here's my ideas:

Blue: Energia . got a lot of energy running around, a very energetic city. means 'energy' in italian.

Green: Strength Village. depends on brute force and strength

Red: Lava Town. everything's made of rock and surrounded by pools of lava. you get the idea. think Dragon Flares Fire Cave.

Black: Shadow Draconic. full of darkness and shadows that scares the scales out of people. 'Draconic' means dragon in latin.

Light Blue: Oceania. playoff of ocean

Light Green: Geheimnis . very secretive, not many people know about it. 'Geheimnis ' means secret in German. My friend told me a little german since she grew up in a German immersion school.

Grey: Power Town. full of building and repair. many shades of grey.

Turquoise: Deception Ville. hey. they're full of deception and some con artists. :plot:

Purple: Obidence something. follow on pure leadership and rebelling means you're outta there!

Orange: Commande Ville. 'Commande Ville' means 'control city' in French. I take french as a second language. :P

White: Draconic Air. i'll quote, Draconic means Dragon in latin. Nothing goes better with sky and wind than air. :D

Brown: Explotación minera. pretty well what Sarah Frost said, a mining town. means 'mining' in spanish.

i know that they suck, but hey. i gave it a shot.

Sarah Frost - May 30, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
They don't suck. :) Use of foreign words--especially the Romance languages--is just fine in DB world.

One little thing, Liliwen: tempo comes from the Latin word for time. It doesn't mean "speed". In music it refers to how fast you play, but it's actually just how you time your pieces; just saying "tempo" is nonsensical. Terms like "tempo rubato" mean "play at your own pace", and it's used to express how quickly or slowly you play.

Thanks for saying they're not really bad. :) Puts a smile on my face. :D I'm sick today. :( I'm missing some of school because I have to get better by the end of the week. Grad is on Friday! So pysched! I'm one of the performers during the ceremony so i have to get better...fast!

Liliwen - May 30, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
Hey, thanks for the suggestions. Many there I  . I like the idea of using other languages in the names too, like latin, since Magna Draconis is latin.

I kinda like Oceania for the light blue city. Sounds calm and oceanlike...even though its beside a huge lake. Better than my Torrent City. That sounds chaotic, to me. Not at all like Marianis' crew, from what I've seen.

I like White Cliffs for the white city. I think it fits really well.

Traitor's Gate. Ooo, nice little bit of history behind it. It sounds pretty cool, but would they really keep the city name like that? Maybe that could be what everyone calls it, yet the real name is something different.

And I like the idea how the grey city is more of a settlement spread out, and not really a city.

And I have to go right now, getting kicked off as I type. Thanks for the ideas, never would have thought of those! :) :)

Meh, that's what I get for looking through Microsoft Works Word Processor's thesaurus that doesn't exactly have word meanings with it. :P

Me too! ;)

EDIT: I like detail, so I thought I'd go through all the cities and make short descriptions of them. The following is assuming they have a sort of racing circuit for the elite racers, in which they travel to the other cities and not stay in Dragon City the whole time.

I used SF's Fire City and Dragon Fanatic's Lava Town.
Fire City lies at the base of the largest volcano in a chain of volcanoes, four in total, which stretch from north east to south west. This area is to the west of Dragon City, and the base of the volcano furthest west touches the largest lake on the planet, LAKE SOMETHING. (At the other end is the light blue city.) Fire City sits beneath the second volcano from the east. Fire City is one of the five most populous cities. (Which also includes, Dragon City, the blue, green and white cities.) Most of Fire City sits outside of the volcano, but some of it is inside the mountain. This part of the city is called Lava Town, where some thing special is located, possibly Fire City headquarters or so.
Fire City is also one thing to look forward to on the elite racing circuit, as it has one of the most challenging and dangerous tracks, the Inferno Rally, which actually weaves in and out of three of the volcanoes.

Vision City lies to the north of Dragon City, and is the northern most city, except for the grey one. Vision City is surrounded by flat country, completely devoid of anything, whether it be rocks, or plants or whatever. But surrounding the city are huge rocks jutting upward. They are strewn with dark caves and they cast long, black shadows. These are called the Teeth of the Black, since they look somewhat like teeth pointing upwards to the sky. Either that, or I'll call them Dragon's Claws or something maybe.
Like other cities, Vision City has numerous amounts of elite racing tracks, yet their most famous one is the Gauntlet of Shadows. This is an incredibly old track, the oldest in existence and still used today. Some believe it was made during the original D-H war, and named after the Shadow Booster. This track runs in and out of the huge, pointy rocks. This particular track is difficult, due to the poor vision because of all the shadows, sharp turns and rocks which are in the way as obstacles.

Oceania sits at the edge and on the largest lake on the planet. The rich people are the ones living in the section underwater. The deeper you are, the richer you are. Like Dragon City has drag ways, Oceania has underwater drag ways.
The most famous of Oceania’s tracks is the SOMETHINGOROTHER race, which is almost completely underwater. Not as challenging as other tracks, this one is especially dangerous, due to the fact that if the elite racers get out of control, they can break the walls of the underwater drag ways, and if broken, can flood. This has been the cause of many accidents and deaths if the dragons aren’t too good at swimming….and holding their breaths.

Give me feedback and other suggestions on those please!

Glad that I'm not the only who has to sometimes suffer from evil french teachers. ^_^

I like where you're going with this. here's a couple of ideas from me:

Fire City: is great
love the idea of running through volcanoes. :P

Vision City: great.
love the race course idea.

Oceania: could be clearer on how they survive underwater.
Could be Yin and Yang Lake. You know, fire vs. water, all balance of life, blah, blah, blah, that sorta deal.
Racetrack could be the Water Challenge or The Hydro Dive

Can I be able to help with your deciding on the cities on what they should be and such? Pretty please! I love doing things like this! Makes my pathetic life entertaining!

Liliwen - June 2, 2007 12:30 AM (GMT)
Absolutely! :) Help me with all the little details and such! And not just the cities...any ideas for the name of the huge lake, what exactly is in Lava Town and what I should call the huge pointy rocks surrounding Vision City?

Oceania sits at the edge and on the largest lake on the planet. The rich people are the ones living in the section underwater. The deeper you are, the richer you are. Like Dragon City has drag ways, Oceania has underwater drag ways.
The people living underwater live in huge domes, and the drag ways are long tubes, and all buildings beneath the lake are designed to keep out the water.
That a bit better? And anymore suggestions?

Dragon Fanatic - June 4, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Awesome Liliwen! :) Did you see my ideas for some of the Oceania stuff? I copied what you said and replaced some of the words with my own ideas that are underlined and bolded. I did the same for the other two you have:

Oceania sits at the edge and on the largest lake on the planet, Yin and Yang Lake, (You know, fire vs. water, all balance of life, blah, blah, blah, that sorta deal.)

Vision City is surrounded by flat country, completely devoid of anything, whether it be rocks, or plants or whatever. But surrounding the city are huge rocks jutting upward. They are strewn with dark caves and they cast long, black shadows. These are called the Shadow Traps (logic: the shadows would scare people and pretty well trap them if they get too scared and can't get out if they got lost! :eep: )Like other cities, Vision City has numerous amounts of elite racing tracks, yet their most famous one is the Gauntlet of Shadows. This is an incredibly old track, the oldest in existence and still used today. Some believe it was made during the original D-H war, and named after the Shadow Booster. here's Lava Town!:
Lava Town consists of a few buildings that also include the security forces. they have the lowest crime status because that part of town has only one entrance and exit due to it being almost entirely surrounded by lava! Security have speedy dragons that are fearless and can manuver easily to capture bad guys and criminals!

I'll think of more later.

Oceania: could be clearer on how they survive underwater.

We are told they have under water raceing and special gear for breathing. (From the Magna Draconis)
For fire city it could be Crematoria. Just a thought but Ill edit it if I find anything better.

The Furox - June 4, 2007 07:16 AM (GMT)
Hmm, Crematoria sounds a bit grim ;), how about Volcania for a fire city. And possibly Dark City for a black draconium city. And maybe Aeronautia for a white draconium city. Just ideas. :)

Dragon Fanatic - June 4, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
Here's a couple of my cities and their descriptions. :)

for my light green idea, Geheimnis (Secret in German):

Geheimnis is a very secretive city that not many people know about it. It is camoflauged by an almost chameleon like adaptation due to the technology that the residents of Geheimnis built in the Technological Mountains. When found, Geheimnis is full of busy workers, shifty shopkeepers, and several rookie inventors. ALthough they don't race as much as other cities, their elite-class race tracks are some of the hardest with their most famous race, Jeux d'esprit (French for 'mind games'), that is full of mind traps and logic problems that test racers with their logic and eye for detail. (something I'm incapable of :P )

my orange city idea, Commande Ville (once again, Control City in French):

Commande Ville is one of the oldest cities on the planet. It is full of amazing and ancient arcitect built over battle areas of the first Dragon-Human War. The city is controlled dragons, making humans puppets to them. This city is hostile and dangerous to wanderers and will often have them result in racing on the deadly Controllo di mente track (Italian for Mind Control). It is full of deadly traps on how much the riders trust their dragon and how far the riders would let their dragon control them.

those are some ideas. :) give feedback if you like them.
