QUOTE (Sarah Frost - Australia)
What happened to Chute's old dragon Twyster? S/he can't be too old, since Connor raised him/her. Comfortably retired? Similarly, let's say Beau chose Kitt in episode 1. What would have happened to Wyldfyr? (What happens to unwanted dragons generally?)
Excellent question Sarah. Twyster isn't to old at all! The coolest part of this question is that the answer comes partly from another question by Nayade in Santiago, Chile. When you get into Academy you learn many new things about draconium, the various frequencies of draconium powers and how to best channel those powers through the human body. A little secret in Dragon Booster is that all humans and some dragons have traces of gold draconium in their bones and when the highly skilled (Dragon Priests, Connor, Word, some Academy and Elite Class Racers for example) learn to match energy with the dragon, the dragon does indeed at some point, mutate and grow. Twyster is now an Academy dragon, meaning some of this evolution has taken place. When Chute comes out for the Vortex Relay Race, she rides another street-safe dragon. Evolving Academy Dragons are a bit too much for the All City Track, they are far more dangerous, powerful and harder to control. To answer the second part of your question, Beau would not have chosen Kitt. Beau was destined to choose Artha. Also don't worry too much about lonely dragons, most of the breeds are as smart and developed as humans and are happy to hang out with each other as much as they are with humans. There is far more going on behind the dragon's eyes than you'd think!

QUOTE (Liliwen @ Ontario - Canada)
Can you provide a definitive list of which dragons are boys and which are girls among all the ones we regularly see? Mainly Wyldfyr, but we'd like to know for all the named dragons in the show, including ones like Abandonn and Tyrannis Pax. Also, the only dragon whose age we know is Beau's. Do you have ages in mind for the other dragons? Is it typically the case that the dragon's age is similar to its rider's? Propheci though seems like he's much older than Reepyr. What about the giant dragons? How long do dragons live?
Hi Liliwen good questions all, I will send a list to Furox so he can post it on the site but in the short-term, lots of times, dragons and humans get together because they are close in age. Dragons and humans are equally intelligent and developed so they tend to like peers and share the same age-related views and jokes amongst themselves as we do....about adults being "not cool" or younger dragons or people being "to young to know stuff". You're right in that Propheci is older than Reepyr. The ruling Prophet dragons are generally much older and stuck in their ways. They carry on a long standing tradition of distrust of humanity and do so by training themselves for years in the lore of the great war and how humans misused the dragons. This is why only older, more trained Prophet dragons can be trusted sharing the dangerous and unpredictable thoughts of humans and the others remain riderless. Humans can be very persuasive. With some exceptions, like people, dragons tend to like riders of the same sex so a good rule is that the dragon and rider will both be male or both female. Noted exceptions include Decepshun who is of course, female.

QUOTE (Nayade @ Santiago - Chile)
Abandonn and Tyrannis Pax are among the few giant dragons we see. How did they become so big? Are they naturally giants or were they mutated? Are there other giants around somewhere? If not where did they go?
Cool question Nayade. In the Academy, you learn to release more and more of your dragon's draconium powers and learn to channel more and more of your own. Yes, as one of my earlier answers stated, all humans have traces of gold draconium in their bones and in the ancient past when humans and dragons ruled together, draconium was used in great "Atlantean" technology that operated machines and technology just from the mere presence of humans and dragons. This is why when Artha and Beau walk past the ancient statues in "The Choosing" the structures faintly light up from their energy. Back to your question, when you and dragon learn to balance power in just such a way, a transformative evolution happens which changes both you and your dragon forever. Tyrannis Pax and Abandonn are both Elite Class dragons that were once smaller and less powerful. Only Elite Class racing dragons are so big, so imagine just how bad the war would be if it broke out again. This is also why you have to train for years to race Elite Class. Most of this training happens of course, at the Academy!

QUOTE (Allye - Stoutville - Ohio)
What did Beau's parents look like? Are they still around somewhere? Any reason why we don't see them?
Hi Allye, good question! The simple answer is that Beau's parents look a bit like Beau only a bit bigger! They are both Elite Class dragons and have been evolved and changed by the full release of their draconium powers. They are part of Penn Stables Racing which is one of the larger Racing super-companies on the planet. Bet you didn't realize Connor was loaded huh? lol There are the following powers that be in Dragon City and in the ELite Class Racing world, they are Saurcom, Leviacorp, Reptillico, Payne Industries and Penn Stables. While Payne and Penn are mostly gear and dragons respectively, the others work in combinations of both.

QUOTE (Salazaar - Michigan)
How do you get baby dragons like Fracshun? Where are the dragon's parents? You never see their parents, and you never hear of egg-laying places. Do dragons form families and raise their own young? Where did all those baby dragon eggs come from when Morrdryd had to steal them so they could be mutated by that black draconium pod? Do the female dragons ever get pregnant?
Hello Salazaar. Dragons do lay and care for eggs and in the more traditional family sense, (meaning the way Connor runs his stables), Connor believes in the ancient equality for dragons and dragon kind so within the confines of Penn Stables, families raise their own young along with human help. Sadly, some corporate concerns in Dragon City are not so benevolent, and they raise dragons in farms with hatcheries and such. Connor has been working hard to abolish such practices but the super-corporations of Dragon City are pretty powerful at this point in history. At Penn Stables, you'll find Fracshun's parents, Beau's and Cyrano's as well. Wyldfyr was a rescue dragon as the orphan Kitt, rescued her orphan dragon.

QUOTE (The Hydrag - Grants Pass - Oregon)
Would you tell us more about Hydrags and their habits. Why are they loyal to Beau? And, did they play a part in the original Dragon-Human War? Have hydrags ever accepted riders like dragons do? Thank you very much!!!
Another good question Hydrag. Yes, they do accept riders and have in the past but they are more solitary creatures. Preferring darkness and moisture, when it comes to Dragon City there aren't many places where they are in their native habitat, but outside the city, in other places, they roam in greater and more organized numbers. There are some branches of the Dragon Fish Crew outside of Dragon City that keep and ride Hydrags. They did indeed play a part in the original Dragon-Human War, being one of the most fearsome dragons on the planet, they were also sought after by all the warring empires to either make alliances with or to try and force them into attacking opponents. Hydrags themselves are highly intelligent and like the Prophets in a sense, are just wary and distrustful. They just don't have the "all humans are bad" mentality of the Prophets and they happily joined with the Original Dragon Booster to help stop the war. A little known secret about Hydrags is that they have more gold draconium traces left in their bones than most other species.

My own comments:
Cool! Hydrags have draconium and do allow riders at times. So they're not just mindless predators. Now I want to see more of them to see what they're going to do. :)
And I didn't know Kitt was an orphan. :faint: That certainly explains why she never mentions family and appeared to have lived alone in Down City. And it explains why she occasionally sleeps over at Penn Stables since she has no family to go home to. And Wyldfyr's an orphan as well that Kitt rescued. I guess they have dragon shelters in Dragon City. Now I want to see a story that uncovers Kitt's and Wyldfyr's past and how they became orphans and how they met. :)
So my favorite battle dragon T. Pax was once regular size and evolved during Academy training which I presume was with Connor. I still wonder if he always had four arms or if he grew extra arms as he evolved (or if those arms were just gear).
And I always wondered why the statues lit up when Artha and Beau walked by. I thought maybe Mortis was just having fun with the lights, but it was the gold draconium in their bones. Cool. :)
dolphinliss - April 15, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
AWESOME!!!!!!! :faint:
this is great info
i can't wait to hear more ^_^ :D
Sarah Frost - April 15, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
So that leaves a few more questions. If Connor is uber-rich and part of the Sun City set (okay, I can buy that his assets were frozen while he was presumed dead and that not one of his wealthy/reasonably well off associates or hangers-on thought it worthwhile to help out his kids, just), why doesn't Artha know what Abandonn is when he sees him for the first time? An Elite Class dragon like one of those his dad's bred? I wish we'd seen more dragons than Beau in Penn Stables, too. The big dragons are cool, but they should have been given more exposition before now. What goes on in Sun City can't be that obscure.
QUOTE
With some exceptions, like people, dragons tend to like riders of the same sex so a good rule is that the dragon and rider will both be male or both female.
So...either the default sexuality in Dragon City is gay submissive (explains why Artha and Kitt haven't been getting that far!), or men and women are very very inherently different and almost never hang out with each other? Come out, all you tomboys in the What Are You thread, and blather forth on all your male friends with whom you have so much in common!
phsycopathicdragon - April 15, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Wow this is relly cool! But what happened to Connor's dragons after the first episodes? where did they all go? Does he maybe have bigger branches of penn stables in sun city, with hired workers doing what he does? It kinda makes sense that penn stables is for a few dragons, like Beau, that he can keep watch over at his home, and since it is near connor's "bat cave". Also, the other dragons may have been moved to other stables in sun city when he was presumed dead, with connor's friends up there taking care of them like connor does.
Plus, when Beau does evolve in sun city, won't it be noticed that he has a lot more gold draconium in him than other dragons? What will happen to his dragon boostering duties in mid city when he moves to the academy? Will people notice that he won't be around as much and will his identity be kept secret? Maybe he dosent need to be secret anymore, cause the academy is pro dragon booster, and what was the reason he is secret again?
Liliwen - April 15, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
W00t! Decepshun's gonna mutate. Hope we see that happen.
QUOTE
Back to your question, when you and dragon learn to balance power in just such a way, a transformative evolution happens which changes both you and your dragon forever.
Is that instantaneous? Or does it happen over a short period of time, or a long period of time, you think? Artha and Beau are definitely going to have to learn to balance their powers in order to stop the war, can't wait to see what his transformation is like. ^_^
QUOTE
and what was the reason he is secret again?
So Word and Armeggy don't kill him in his sleep or anything. Then they could also take Lance captive, knowing he is his brother and all and not just a little friend.
Sarah Frost - April 15, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
They've already taken Lance captive as just a little friend. :) He's keeping it a secret so he doesn't get called on cheating for using legendary draconium powers to go from rookie to Elite in just a few months flat.
Salazaar - April 16, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
So, do the dragons set up their own little families in Penn Stables? Do they have nests? How come we never see Beau's, Fracshun's, Cyranos's, any of their parnets? Do they stay inside all day? Are they in a seperate branch of Penn Stables hidden from view? Are they elite class and giant?
I have a more organized train of thought but I can't pull it all together now...
The Hydrag - April 16, 2007 05:39 AM (GMT)
So many questions so little brain power!HE-HE! It is going to be cool to see Decepshun mutate but that means that the Vysox will mutate also and Im not sure thats is a good thing. Beaus trans. will be awesome! I cant wait to see. If Penn is so loaded he probably faked his own death just to get a break from corperate life.*Laughs* I wonder what would happen if a Hydrag got into the Academy and transformed? That would be incredible! When I can think straight Ill post more.
The Furox - April 16, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't say Connor faked his death. He simply went missing. Artha and Lance even said that on more than one occasion. In episode 1, Parmon reports there was no sign of Connor; in other words no body was found. Anyone who reads comic books knows that "no body means no death". :D
So about Beau transforming into an Elite Class dragon: I guess that brief moment at the end of "Track of Doom" where he transforms a bit and merges with Artha was perhaps a taste of that transformation. Not to say that I think he'll permanently merge with Artha, but that big head crest he grew is probably a precursor of his Elite Class form. Our friend T. Pax has a big crest as well, and one of the folks from Nerd Corps mentioned that the giant dragons have a place for their riders built into their heads, which is why you don't see a saddle on either T. Pax or Abandonn. So I think that scene in "Track of Doom" may have been trying to show us that.
On how fast the transformation happens to dragons at the Academy, I don't think it would be instantaneous. It probably happens slowly by degrees as the human and dragon learn to balance with other each. I think that would make the most sense.
QUOTE (phsycopathicdragon @ Apr 15 2007, 08:27 AM)
But what happened to Connor's dragons after the first episodes? where did they all go? Does he maybe have bigger branches of penn stables in sun city, with hired workers doing what he does?
I imagine he must. The Penn Stables facility we see clearly isn't set up for giant dragons, only the standard street variety. All his Elite Class dragons must be boarded somewhere else. Perhaps he's got Beau's parents and few others down in the Dragon Temple to keep T. Pax company. :)
QUOTE
What will happen to his dragon boostering duties in mid city when he moves to the academy?
Oh, I imagine Artha will be able to commute like the rest of us. :D
I like the bit about dragons having age delineations as well and younger dragons thinking older humans and dragons are "uncool". :D Perhaps that explains a bit about why Beau wouldn't choose Connor. Poor Connor. He's considered "over the hill" by the Dragon of Legend. :)
Airshadow - April 16, 2007 11:38 AM (GMT)
WOW!!! this is great!!!!
I cant wait to see my question answered
SilverDragon - April 16, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
So, when you release the full powers of your dragon, it's like:
WHAT? TYFOON is evolving!
Congratulations! Your TYFOON evolved into...um...okay, what IS that? It looks like Baragon on crack.
Liliwen - April 16, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
*pictures huge dragons like Abaddonn and T-Pax racing on a gigantic track while their riders wage mag-claw fighting war....* Oh, the carnage! So, if one of those dragons, like fell from the tracks, and since mag-claw style fighing is so...dangerous, there must be a lot of damage done to the city and the tracks. Right?
The Hydrag - April 16, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
More than likely. Or possibly the areas exposed to such treatment are built out of extremly strong damage resistant materials.
The Furox - April 17, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
The city doesn't appear to be set up for fully evolved Elite Class dragons to me. We never see them around and the roads aren't wide enough to accommodate them. That suggests a couple of things to me:
First, the lack of giant dragons in the city seems to say that very few riders have what it takes to fully release the power of their dragons which would allow them to evolve. The Academy may be able to make you a better racer, but they apparently can't teach everyone how to match energies with their dragons. If they could, there should be lots of giant dragons around the city, but there aren't. Therefore, I think it must be rare for a dragon to fully evolve the way T. Pax and Abandonn have.
Second, since the city streets aren't set up for evolving Elite Class dragons, I think that says that those races must be held elsewhere. Because of the size and weight of those dragons, it would make the most sense to have those race tracks at ground level somewhere near the city where damage to the city streets and falling wouldn't be an issue.
Hopefully, if the DB Academy episodes get made, we'll learn a lot more about the Elite Class dragons. And I'm still hoping that maybe we'll see Beau's parents at some point. :D And more episodes with T. Pax since he's just plain awesome. He's no doubt been through the Academy training with Connor, so his backstory would tell us a lot. It'd be cool to see what he looked like before he evolved. :)
Burnout Beau - April 19, 2007 10:59 AM (GMT)
So, Beau's mommy and daddy look similar like him but just bigger? All the more reason for me to look forward to a family reunion. :D
And also the dragons evolve when they managed to balance their draconium powers? Cool! . Wonder how Beau will turn out to be. Hopefully he'll turn out three times more cooler than before. But this evolution thingy kinda reminds me of Pokemon, where your little pocket critters transform into a completely new being.

If that's so, I pity the workers who have to fix the track after every races, and also the people below Sun City due to falling debris and dust...
Elushun - April 22, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah, giant dragons do seem extremely rare. It's probably because they can only evolve at the Academy which (apparently) only has one open spot per year. So that means only one giant dragon per year.
The Hydrag - April 28, 2007 03:56 AM (GMT)

I think Sentrus said the one opening was for a candidate from Dragon City. I think this implied that they take in candidates from other cities, perhaps 1 or 2 per city. We don't really know how many cities there are, but Rob seemed to imply that there is at least one for each of the ancient draconium empires. That says there might be 13 cities (12 draconium colors plus gold where Dragon City was the seat of the gold empire as Rob said). So the Academy might be accepting somewhere around 13 students per year.
Still, either the Academy is very exclusive and hence very small, or many of the students fail to fully release the powers of their dragon or there would be a lot more giant dragons around. Or the other possibility is that many do, but the giant dragons never return to the cities for practical reasons and live out in the country side between cities. Hmm, I wonder what the giant dragon population really is now. :)

Come out, all you tomboys in the What Are You thread, and blather forth on all your male friends with whom you have so much in common! |
Men and women have different thinking patterns. This allows for more than one side to things. Most dragons would want someone to side with them on issues, so they pick a rider who would most likely think like them. This does not mean that all girls think the same, and all men think the same. This only means that on certain things genders generally tend to think similar to people of the same gender. Men and Women have some differences, yes, but on the main frame of things we are the equal and the same.
Most kids relate to a parent close to their gender. That doesn't mean that they aren't attracted to the opposite gender, it only means their friends are more likely to have the same gender. For example ever notice there is groups of girls as friends and groups of guys as friends? There are also groups of mixed genders as friends.
Opposites attract, not only in magnets, but in humans too. Kitt and Artha are friends with crushes. They have some attraction to each other, but they aren't head over heels in love. Beside most serious relation ships occur after adulthood. There is short term dating, but the serious long term dating usually occurs after people are eighteen.
Sarah Frost - May 7, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
Thinking patterns are very heavily influenced by environment. For example, in the Middle Ages women were viewed as more sexual than men, leading men to sin--but in the Victorian era and in modern times to a lesser extent, women are stereotyped as having less of a sex drive than men. (Studies have shown that women and men both describe their feelings similarly.) And in previous eras, only men got educated because they were viewed as being able to handle it--but in modern times, being a good student is somewhat more of a female stereotype than a male, though women are still underrepresented in science and mathematics. Most issues not pertaining to women's rights are likely to be supported and opposed by equal numbers of women and men. At most, women and men are very much overlapping bell curves, and a lot of women on this board have claimed that they hang out with men more than women.
Our society is sexist, and perpetuates stereotypes in generation after generation, but assign the composition of dangly bits the low relevance it deserves and you'd get more mixed groups of friends with common interests. I'd assume the DB world is merely similarly affected by sexism.
Elushun - May 7, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
I think Power of Dragon just about got it summed up. It also may have something to do with perspective. Many great comedy routines and works of literature have been based around how people seem to universally fail to understand how the opposite sex thinks. Men think women are too complex, and women refuse to believe that men can really be that simple. In short, it tightens up the bonds of a team and lets you work together better if you can understand how your ally thinks. And if that means choosing a dragon of the same gender, so be it.
The only concrete exception to the same-gender arrangement is Moordryd and Decepshun. They probably get a little leeway because of the mental connections that Psi-class dragons use to interact with their riders. A little telepathy can really streamline communications like that.
power of dragon - May 7, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
Elushun got the idea of what I meant. On Dateline (I think its was that documentary, or some show on ABC) Had an entire hour spent on how Chemically different Men and Women's minds are, and how we think.
The world unfortunately probably is sexist to some degree, but I think most people are trying to discourage that. ( this topic was also covered on the ABC documentary) Maybe I used the wrong word when I said thinking Pattern, for I do agree the environment a person is grown up in, and currently lives in affects the way people think. Same goes with experiences, experiences change the way we think and view our world.
Elushun - May 7, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
Sarah Frost posted while I was typing, so I'm going to backtrack to what they said for a sec. Yes, sexism is an unfortunate consequence of civilized society. One that I don't think will ever be completely erradicated. But as for its presence in the Dragon Booster world, I see no evidence of that. Let alone a manner in which it would affect someone's choice of dragon. Admittedly, there is no explanation for this apparent coincidence of gender provided in the show, but there's also a lack of information on the dragon selection process as a whole. We don't know what factors go into a rider's decision of what dragon to ride. (Unless you're Artha and the dragon chooses you.)
The Hydrag - May 7, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
This is a Dragonology thread and not a sexist thread but at least we are stiil near the original idea.As for the ideas that only one exception has been made to same sex rider by Elushun:
The only concrete exception to the same-gender arrangement is Moordryd and Decepshun. They probably get a little leeway because of the mental connections that Psi-class dragons use to interact with their riders. A little telepathy can really streamline communications like that.
We have heard Kitt saying to her dragon "Come on boy!" So that is a pretty solid addition to the exception.
Elushun - May 7, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Wyldfyr's gender has long been in question. Kitt has referred to Wyldfyr as "boy" at least once that I know of, however, her TCG card lists her as female. This contraversy was what led me to list Moordryd and Decepshun as the only concrete exception. (Ooh... Excepshun would make a cool name for a dragon...)

Men think women are too complex, and women refuse to believe that men can really be that simple.
Oh yes, men are so simple. Look at Hamlet, for example! Men are simple and women are complex, which is why women have been invariably stereotyped as complex thinkers throughout recorded history.
Go to the French court in the days of the Sun King and check out what men happen to be wearing, and the complex court procedures used by men, who were the ones in power. Very "girly things" relative to today! Our brains are not hardwired as infants, but stereotyping such as assuming a female infant is scared where a male infant is shocked
probably has a large role in these pereceived differences--and even then, there are very many women and men involved in non-gender-stereotypical activities. (Such as blokes in fandom. The unmanliness of it!)

Well I am a guy and Ill be the first to admit that 99.9 percent of men are shallower than than a film of water accrost glass. With such shallow members of the same sex I am often ashamed to admit to my internet friends that I am a guy.

Im a nerd myself and think more complexly than most girls at my high school and Ive caught a lot of flack about being smart. Yes, this is way off topic for this thread. If any of you wish to continue the discussion of sexism in the real world, please start a new thread over in the General Discussion area. I don't have the ability to move postings there myself, but I do have the ability to delete postings from here. :)
To be clear on the topic of this thread: it's for discussing dragonology as it relates to the answers given by The Magna Draconis in the first posting and for things that cross over from his answers in other threads, but nothing else.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Sometimes incorrect pronouns are used for effect or in the heat of the moment. Ships and powerful machines are often referred to with female personal pronouns, but they certainly don't have any actual gender.
Renesh - May 9, 2007 05:44 AM (GMT)
The reason for that is because sailors left their wives behind every time they went out to sea, and they ended up caring for the ship like they would their wife, thus it kinda came to take the wives' places. Thus why ships are referred to as "she".
...I probably made that sound really wierd, but it is actually true.

Really the only time people call animals by the wrong pronoun is when they don't know whether the animal is male or female. Besides, dragons aren't animals, now are they? If they were then they would never have been equal with humans.

about the dragon evolution thing. we're forgetting about a few important characters. what about Parm and Cyrano, he is the Power Booster after all. then there's Kitt and Wyldfyr, Fire Booster, and Lance and Fracshun, the blue Booster. i'm especially curios about fracshun myself. that little guy getting big? that would be a site.

None of them made it into the Acadmey. I don't think we'll have to be worrying about their evolution anytime soon.

Kitt and Parm will definitely be at the Academy, and I'm sure Lance will tag along in some capacity.

Well the racer that makes it into the Academy gets to bring alond their crew or at least some of them. I imagine that Arthas crew is small enough for all of them to go. I also cant imagine the crew being left out of the lessons. Yeah just a huge level called "Crew hangout level". They all probably get trained but the qualifying person gets extra training and attention. Maby the Academy doesnt really know how to evolve the dragons but has Dragon Priests come there and teach the students how to "Release The Dragon" That would be pretty cool.Mortis shows up. Artha would just be like,"Hey Dad!!!"

We also don't know how long it takes a dragon to evolve. The time line for DB Academy may conclude before Beau evolves at all. So we may never get to see the dragons become T. Pax sized. Though I imagine we will see Wyldfyr and Cyrano at least transform into a more powerful form like Beau and Decepshun currently do. I'm not sure how all this will affect Lance and Fracshun though, but I'm sure they'll be tagging along to the Academy with Artha as part of the crew he gets to bring.
