Well, good for you! Believe it or not, I work for Apple now.

To make a video with a Mac, just use iMovie! That's how I made my entry for last year's Anniversary contest (click here to see it). For source material, you'll either need to download some episodes off the Internet, or you can make slide shows set to music using some of the screen shot collections. Export your finished movie in QuickTime format, then upload it to someplace like youtube.com. It's quite easy.

Have fun!

Launch iMovie, go to the Help menu, choose "Getting Started" and read the easy instructions. :)

On windows movie maker? Once you're done, click file, then click, save movie file. On the movie settings part, I'd recommend high quality video (NTSC), that's what I use for vids. it comes out good on youtube then.

You can increase the amount of virtual memory since it's just a setting in Windows. Assuming you're on Windows XP, goto My Computer, click on "View system information", then click the Advanced tab, and where it says "Performace", click "Settings", now click the "Advanced" tab yet again, take a deep breath then where it says "Virtual memory" click "Change". If "Custom Size" is set, try increasing the maximum size by say 100-200 MB, or try using "System managed size" if it's not already set. If it already says "System managed size", then switch over to "Custom size" and play around until you find a maximum size that allows you to run Movie Maker. Try a maximum value that's say double the amount of real memory you have for starters. When you enter a new value, be sure to click "Set", then click "OK" in the plethora of windows that popped up to unwind your way back out. Then try running Movie Maker again. If it continues to say not enough virtual memory, then go back in and try larger values for the maximum size. As long as you have enough free disk space, you should be able to find a value that works. Yes, this is an incredibly ridiculous and unintelligible procedure, but that's the way everything is on Windows.

Of course, if you had a Mac, you wouldn't have to worry about this at all since Mac OS automatically adjusts the virtual memory as needed for you. There are no settings to futz with all and the user never has to worry about it, or even know it's there. It just works. :)

any suggestions for windows vista? our XP is severly under powered (128Mb of RAM is not enough for anything.)

The Furox - July 17, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
If you only have 128MB of ram, then the odds are you have a really old machine that has no hope of running Vista for reasons other than memory size. Even for XP, I consider 512MB to the absolute minimum in order to get work done. I'd just get more memory and stick with XP and forget Vista.

atomicnewt2552 - July 17, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
i guess i explained wrong, i do everything on our vista computer because our xp is under powered and was asking if the same process applied to vista's windows moviemaker. sorry on the confusion furox, i dont think the vista is under powered at 1gb of RAM, even though vista is resource hungry and takes 512Mb on it's own..................
