Do you have the url surrounded by the [IMG] tags? Is everything spelt right?
dolphinliss - March 13, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
yes to both questions. when ever i do it all i see on my signature is a blue box with a question mark in it
Liliwen - March 13, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
Hmmmm. I don't know what's wrong, not that I'm a computer whiz or anything ;) ...are you using photobucket?

The possible causes that come to mind: either the image is not on a publicly accessible web server, or it's not a file format that's supported, or the tag or URL is typed wrong.
What exactly are you entering between the [img] tags?

never mind, i got it. i got a photobucket account and i was able to get the pictures from that
thanks Liliwen :D

Sorry guys but Im a computer moron. How do you even get a signature? Also how does a person get the little words to show up under their avatar? Thank you all!

All your settings can be found by clicking "My Controls" up at the top. Looks like you've already got the "Custom Member Title" worked out which is under "Edit Profile". To add a signature, just click where it says "Edit Signature" on the left. Your signature can of course have both images and text. If you use images, keep them reasonable small. Inserting huge images creates clutter and makes it difficult to follow the threads.

I understand that part but where do I find images that fit and then how do I find the URL link so I can use them?

One--find the image that you like on your computer (or find it on the Internet, right-click and save it to your harddrive, and don't forget to give credit where credit's due); two--go to
Photobucket and register; three--follow Photobucket instructions to "upload" the picture (ie. take it from your computer and put it on the web); four--look at your Photobucket (mine is
here, mostly other people's work and screencaps); five--copy the URL they place under your picture, where it says Direct Link, eg
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r94/Cia...LIFearep102.jpg ; six--place the image in an IMG tag:
| CODE |
| [IMG]http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r94/CiaraSabine/LIFearep102.jpg[/IMG] |
in your signature or wherever you want to display it.
And you get:

Well, if its already on the net, you can right click, go to properties, then copy and paste the URL found there.

Dont worry youll get the hang of this soon. Its easy after the first few times. At my post above here I didnt know what URL was and now Im designing web sites! Talk about a leap! Good Luck and nice signature! I like it and I am sure Sarah Frost will like it as well ;)

Don't do that. One, it's called
hotlinking and some people don't like it, and two, you don't know when the person owning the other website is going to change the website. Let's say you find a picture of inflated rubber balls, address
http://pictures.net/bouncyballs.jpg , and put it in your signature--the owner of
http://pictures.net can rename the picture to
http://pictures.net/redbouncyballs.jpg , which means the picture won't show up any more, or even replace the picture at
http://pictures.net/bouncyballs.jpg with...ah, something much ruder. And that will get you in trouble.
