Title: Introductions
Description: Across The World

Sarah Frost - April 8, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
Since we all seem to be from very different corners of the world, I thought I'd start up this topic to give people a chance to introduce themselves. So I'm Sarah Frost, I'm an Aussie, I like Word Paynn, and I'm a first-year Law/IT student who likes slash, femslash, the English language, a good debate, and constructively criticising Suethors. Hello, all. :)

LightningFlash - April 9, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
I am Anna, your admin, an Aussie who likes music, art, writing, her guitar, Moordryd, her thirty-something pets, and the thought of burning her algebra books.

ShadowCat - April 9, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
I'm Jo-Ann. I'm an Aussie who likes almost anything science-fiction (especially Stargate and Star Trek) and I'm legally blind.

Natalilly - April 9, 2005 11:04 AM (GMT)
I'm Natalie, graduated Australian art student who likes cartoons, fantasy novels, latte's, toe socks, brightly coloured jewlery, children, Queen (as in the band), cats and making people laugh.
My nickname was dubbed to me by my now five year old nephew, Druid, when he was two and learning to talk. I'm very fond of it, him and his new sister, Lily.

LightningFlash - April 10, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
Let's hear it for toe socks! :D

Sparx - April 10, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
I'm Angela and I'm Jo-ann's twin. I'm also legally blind and I like sci-fi and my gorgeous baby birdies. Okay, well they're not really babies anymore but they're still cute!
By the way, this is my first post. My sister's been up me to post for a while. Happy now, Jo-ann???

ShadowCat - April 10, 2005 03:30 AM (GMT)
Yes, very!

hyperpsychomaniac - April 10, 2005 01:11 PM (GMT)
Hi, I'm Laura from Australia, AKA hyperpsychomaniac or H or short. I love writing, drawing (and occasionally decapitating) stick men and scifi. I'm a 2nd year engineering student... and I hate maths?

LightningFlash - April 10, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
We should form a society for that, H.

Aussies Anonomous Against Math.

Natalilly - April 10, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
I'll join, I flunked Maths in year 11.
Art and Maths don't mix.

LightningFlash - April 11, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
I'm still trying to get my year ten in algebra/business math. I don't care about the Pythagorean Theorem, dangit, I just want to finish school!

Knights_Honour - April 11, 2005 01:11 AM (GMT)
I'm Natasha aka Knights_Honour (Honour or Tash for short)

I'm an Aussie as well

I like reading, writing, drawing, singing, Artha and Beau

Sarah Frost - April 11, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
I like Maths. Did it at the highest level I could in Year 12... :P Anyone else here a numerophile?

ShadowCat - April 11, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
I don't hate Maths, but I did pretty badly at it, partly because I kept reading numbers wrong. I did get the highest in the class in Legal Studies, though, which was so easy it wasn't funny!

The Furox - April 11, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
I'm Curt, a software engineer living in northern California. I like to hike and ski, and play around with digital photography and electronic music. In the animation area, I like the Pixar movies, Shrek 1 & 2, Ice Age, Lion King, Balto, and so on. As far as series go, I like things like Gargoyles, South Park, Futurama, Simpsons, Batman Beyond, Batman, Tale Spin, Mighty Max, Swat Kats, Road Rovers, Father of the Pride, Family Guy, Duckman, Animaniacs, and of course Dragon Booster. In the sci-fi arena, I like shows such as Babylon 5, Star Trek (all of them), X-Files, and The Prisoner. Favorite sci-fi authors include Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, and Harry Harrison.

I also have a really nice German Shepherd named Shane who dutifully guards my house against any invasion by cats.

Oh, and math is OK with me. :)

Sarah Frost - April 11, 2005 09:50 AM (GMT)
Oh, Harry Harrison! I think his humorous works are very funny, especially the Stainless Steel Rat series, but his political beliefs come across a little strongly for my tastes, which ruin some of the books for me. A message shouldn't be too obvious in a good story; the reader truly doesn't need to be bashed over the head with it. But the Hammer and the Cross series was excellent, I think.

LightningFlash - April 11, 2005 10:30 AM (GMT)
German Shepherd? I LOVE those! We had a heap when I was a kid, and I've always wanted another one.

Well, first non-Aussie to introduce themselves. Nice to, uh, meet you officially. :)

The Furox - April 11, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
Yes! The Stainless Steel Rat stories are among my favorites, as are things like Asimov's Foundation series and robot stories. And even though Larry Niven doesn't write them himself, I enjoy the Man-Kzin War series based on his characters. (Just finished vol. 7 a little while back and it was one of the better ones.)

By the way, did many of you know each other previously or is it just a coincidence that the majority of people who found their way here happened to be from Australia?

Sarah Frost - April 11, 2005 08:42 PM (GMT)
Yes, most of us did...Dragon Booster is on at the same timeslot as another television show that we met each other through. So we're the crazed Aussie fangirl contingent, taking shows meant for 6-11-year-old guys and seriously discussing them and writing fanfic.

Natalilly - April 12, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
I'm just a co incidence. Found this place through Lightning Flash's LJ link to her fanfic page. I've been hunting for DragonBooster stuff and she happened to be the first person on a very small list I clicked

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
I'm an odd find. You're doing well to remain sane. :)

You forgot over-analysing, Sarah. We do that remarkably well.

KittxArtha forever - April 12, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
hello, i'm sara, i'm from the usa, i love anime, drawing, art, anything to do with the dragon booster, and im a huga fan of artha and kitt.

ShadowCat - April 12, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
Angela and I know Laura because we used to go to the same school.

Areal_Ravendark - April 12, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
I'm Claire, Areal_Ravendark here simply because pseudonyms were in at the time. I'm an Aussie with a welsh accent and I live in Perth amounge scary scary goblin people who were teatowels for skirts and their boxers half way down their backsides.

I'm obbessed with the meaning of life, aliens, Giger and cookies. I love anything to do with Sci-fi, Fantasy and Horror and more recentluy cartooning and anime. I have livejournal which rarely gets updated: My Ramblings

I love femslash, slash, yuri, yaoi, all kinds of weird squicks and stuff like that...don't ask me why...I just do. I like happy endings :) ...with a twist.

speaking of which...

Any of you gals heard about when the next season of AL is coming on?

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 03:52 AM (GMT)
*sigh* Nope. :(

Bound to, but.

ShadowCat - April 12, 2005 04:02 AM (GMT)
I haven't heard anything either. I hope they start showing it soon!

Goddesstears - April 12, 2005 04:02 AM (GMT)
Hello all ^_^ I'm new. Glad I finally joined LightningFlash? Heehee

Anyways, I'm from Oklahoma, USA. I've got 6 dogs (two Yorkshire Terriers, a Toy Poddle, an Italian Greyhound, and two mutts), 2 cats, love Dragon Booster with a passion, love anime, drawing, 80s music, video games, Star Wars, trying to play the guitar,...buncha other stuff I can't remember at the moment...yeah.

Sarah Frost - April 12, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
No, I haven't either, Honour. If I do, I'll post it on the appropriate messageboard and probably email EVERYONE ecstatically. Until then, you may assume that I and most other members of the fandom do NOT know.

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 04:31 AM (GMT)
Yes, you can be sure that the fandom will go into a frezy. It'll be hard to miss.

Makes sense. I thought it seemed like people knew each other. Is the other show you're referring to Ace Lightning?

Works for me. Every group I've ever seriously discussed any animated show or movie with consisted solely of people outside the target audience.

Sarah Frost - April 12, 2005 07:45 AM (GMT)
*blush* Yes. Utterly inappropriate subtext and questioning of the nature of humanity. At least, that's what I'm claiming as a justification for completely juvenile tastes.

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 10:43 AM (GMT)
Oh, it's easily justified. A superior show, IMHO, with less plot holes, fascinating characters, and subjects you just don't find in kids shows. You just have to know where to look.

Admittedly, I'm probably the only seventen year old in the state who watches it, but oh well. That's what you gals are for. :D

Sarah Frost - April 12, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
Ah, we're a lonely lot. :)

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 11:17 AM (GMT)
Ah, but we ARE experts in our field!

Names, places, dates, all possible subtext, character interaction, weapons, battles won or lost, implications . . . .

If BBC ever wants experts on AL, we are fully qualified.

And not as lonely as we were eight or so months ago, hey? :D

Sarah Frost - April 12, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)
:D

It's a pity BBC hasn't updated their website...we could probably write the summaries from memory.

Meh, you make us sound so sad. But it's been fun. :)

(Posted an AL-related rant in fanficrants, btw.)

LightningFlash - April 12, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
Oooh, really?

PMed you. Work?

We aren't sad, we're intelligent (Back me up on that one, I've been at myself all day  ). Who ELSE found what we have? :P

Natalilly - April 12, 2005 01:31 PM (GMT)
I'm totally justified in my insane likings of cartoons. People ask and I put on a serious face
"well I was first drawn to it's unusual humour used in situations that, in your usual Western cartoon, are just not meant for humour. It's such a facinating change from worn out old monolouges and predictable gags. And the animation is facinating, such a strange combination of modern Western and anime influences..."
People get that pretending to be deep and understanding look and nod, looking impressed.
Honestly though? I hit six years old and never went past it. it may be a boys toon but that never stopped me. (Picture a six year old girl wailing and in tears informing her Mummy the reason she was so upset was the scary horrible vampire movie KILLED her FAVOURITE vampire! (serious, it's ione of Mum's favourite me stories.) I'll add my parents aren't that responsible, my cousin showed it to me, and he's a little retarded (in the inoffensive usage of the word))

So yeah, it's one of my quirks. Everyone who knows me knows I get a little too into cartoons and books.

K-T - April 13, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
Hey all!

Well, its taken me a while but I finally registered. Which actually seems kind of illogical as I have never seen an episode of Dragon Booster in my life. But yeah, the infamous Lightning Flash finally convinced me to pop in and say hi to you all. So... 'Hi' I guess :D

Take care all
