Title: Why Is Word So Mean To Moordryd
Description: Word and Moordryd

Haven't you thought of why Words so mean? He's like a shark getting hit in the head with a pole and being stuck in an fish tank.

PErhaps he's biter 'cause he was kicked up the Dragon's Priest order and why is so mean with Moordryd it's abig mistery.

I jsut hope that the reaqson will be revealed in Dragon Booster: Academy Ç(if it is aired)

Probably because Moordryd doesn't quite live up to Word's expectations. Word wants his son to be just as evil and just as perfectly dedicated to Word's goals as Word is. For example, Word was an Elite Class racer, but at least in the early episodes, Moordryd is losing most of the races he runs in. He won the Horn of Libris race, but only because he used a wraith dragon to cheat and knock down Khatah. In "Pride of the Hero", Word even complains saying "when was the last time you won a race?" and calls him a disgrace.

In addition, Word is pretty mad at Moordryd for letting the gold dragon get away from him on numerous occasions. Moordryd failed to capture Beau in both episodes 1 and 2 and incurred Word's wrath. Moordryd also lost the Horn of Libris before he could hand it over to his father, and I'm sure Word was none too happy about that either. And of course, there was Moordryd's refusal to turn over Beau in "Pride of the Hero" as well.

I'm sure these are not new events. Moordryd has probably been a disappointment in Word's eyes going back before episode 1. The problem with Word is that he wants Moordryd to be exactly like him, and in reality, no two people are ever that much alike. So Word is pretty much bound to be disappointed.

By the way, this thread should probably have been started over in one of the DB specific forums. But welcome to the forum Sai! :)

Ok I think I understand. Do you think Word was this mean to Moordryd when Moordryd was a Kid.

The Furox - December 30, 2006 10:36 PM (GMT)
Oh, I'm sure. I'm certain that Moordryd has always been a disappointment to Word ever since he was quite young and has always failed to live up to Word's expectations (in his mind, of course). That's why Moordryd keeps trying to win his father's approval, at least in the season 1 episodes.

I agree with the Furox for the most part.

But in the later episodes (the eps post-Armagedion) I think that Word is angry because he knows that Moordryd is following another master.

Yes, that's definitely in there. I haven't decided yet if Word is angry due to jealousy because Armeggaddon is sort of taking over his father role to a degree (acting as another master, as you say), or Word suspects that Armeggaddon is going after Moordryd to interfere with Word's own plans, or because Word needs Moordryd to carry out his plans for him and doesn't want to loose such a useful pawn. Hmm. Maybe all the above. :) I hope we get more episodes so we can find out.

I liked it when Word dressed up as Drakkus meets Armeggaddon for the first time and Armeggaddon says "so you do care." I guess Armeggaddon could see through Word's disguise. :D

Do you think that could be a little bit of foreshadowing to when Word will actually show he cares? Like, say so right in front of Moordryd and genuinely mean it?

Salazaar - December 31, 2006 04:13 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that would like, revolutionize Moordryd's whole outlook on life if his father was nice to him and addmitted that he cared to Moordryd's face. That would realy be something to see...............Moordyrd's expression, I mean. :D

Airshadow - December 31, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
I doubt that Word cares. The only caring is jkeep the pawn

Sai - December 31, 2006 05:13 AM (GMT)
Moordyd's exspetion would be funny and it would change is out look on things.

You know, in season 1 or 2 I would have said "no way". Word seemed like the kind of character that would never change and was too ruthless to ever care about anyone else. But Word seems a bit different in season 3, even going so far as to briefly team up with Mortis, though I'm not fully convinced he truly cares about Moordryd, at least not yet.

So I think I'll say "maybe" there's a little foreshadowing going on at this point. :) Hard to tell if he's actually caring about Moordryd or just caring that Moordryd gets into the Academy so he can learn more and become a more useful pawn for Word to exploit for his own benefit. Hopefully, we'll get more episodes so we can find out.

Do you think when/if Word finds out Moordryd is the SB, Word will treat him nicer or the same way?

The Furox - January 9, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
Well, Word has already said he's impressed with the Shadow Booster, so he could possibly be proud of Moordryd for the first time in his life. Though Moordryd did it all behind his father's back plus got in league with Armeggaddon who Word clearly knows is an enemy. So it would seem Word could react either way towards Moordryd. I'm not sure what he'll do myself.

I can't agree with that.

[alert- Word-defending ranting ahead]

Of course judging by the first season you can't tell that Word posseses any redeeming qualities. He's acting like a pure-breed bad guy and without a doubt he's not a very nice person but that doesn't make him a Satan's incarnation. If he was bad to the bone Armegaddonn wouldn't show up. At least I believe that Armegs arrival wasn't just about getting a new, strong enemy. Another crazy bonemark or giant vicious dragon would do the job.
Methinks that thanks to Armeg we can also see Word in a new light. Just by comparing the two of them we can clearly see which 'evil' is more human. At some point in life Word had a family, a wife he loved (the scene in "Faster Than Fear" when talking about Zulay wa can see him being truly, deeply sad- the most human Word ever). And now that she's gone he admits that he miss her. Zulays unknown disappearance must have made him bitter aswell as being outcasted from the Dragon Priests Order.
I'm not saying he didn't deserve to be kicked out, he was a one messed up kid with messed up ideas. Though it must have been rough, that look of hurt quickly covered with rage when young Connor turned his back on him.
Just like we say that Moordryd isn't all bad and his behaviour is caused by his unhappy childhood and unhealthy reationship with his father it can be the same with Word. Hate just causes more hate, sometimes people are trapped it thet circle.
And the "So you do care." line just speaks for itself.
His attitude sometimes reminds me of Jack Skellington with his mania about x-mas, carring only for his own dreams.

And strictly to the topic: I agree with those saying that Word is a horrible father, treating his own son like a pawn and generally being disappointed with him. Probably he doen't know any better. But I can't say that he doesn't care for Moordryd at all. No parent does that. I'd say Word just doesn't know how to express love or doesn't realise that being harsh to Moordryd damages his son inside so badly. Maybe he's doing that to make him stronger, I don't know for sure.

I'm not trying to redeem Word here, what he does is bad he knows it. It's just that we can't look at him like at some monster. He is a real person too.

And about discovering their secret identies... who knows? Though I've always imagined a big battle between Drakkus and Shadow Booster in which they would unmask eachother. Word sees SB as a potential enemy and Moordryd would surely remember how he almost got killed at the shadow tower... all those emotions flying around... I'd love to see that.

Liliwen - January 9, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
Magna Draconis, Turkmen, that was...beautiful. :P Personally I agree with everything you said about Word, every word. I mean, he never had a father. So he wouldn't know how to do it, like you said before or he wouldn't know how much it hurts his son that his father doesn't care and stuff...

I hope that mega battle between SB and Drakkus happens somehow. :P Maybe Drakkus almost kills SB, then unmasks him right before the killing blow...

Girl, you are reading my mind! I also though it would be something like Drakkus going 'Die you sucker' and before the final blow 'omfg it's my son'.
*shares a special cookie*
Somehow I doubt it would improve their relationship. Word would want to use SB as a powerful weapon. Fat chance.
Durring the whole season 3 the tension between them was growing and growing-
it's about time it goes ka-boom.

Drac ideas Tujrkmen and Liliwen. I love the idea of "Word almost killing SB but right before the final blow unmasks him." This is alittle off subject, but I think the Dragon Eyes crew should play a little bit bigger part in the show.
