Dragon-City.org is Back!
Man, what a dragon-sized headache this was for me. I left on two weeks vacation on Nov. 6th, and the hosting company I was using had some kind of major problem on Nov. 9th. They never got my site back online and wouldn't respond to any support requests. Naturally, this had to happen just after I left town when I couldn't really do much about it. I need to be at my home computer in order to do something major like moving the site to a new server. I never found out what happened with them, but if you ever decide to run your own web site, DON'T use vizaweb.com.
I signed up with a new hosting service this last Sunday so my account would be all setup and ready the moment I got home, and guess what happened: for some reason that is still unknow, my ISP (Comcast) won't route traffic to the particular server my site was to be located on! Of all the millions of computers connected to the Internet, they pick the one that I need to use and won't send traffic to it. That means I got home and couldn't upload any files to the new server. Nor could any Comcast customer view the web site even if I could have uploaded it. Since Comcast is a major ISP in the USA, this was an unworkable situation. So I canceled that account and setup
another new account with a third hosting service. I guess the third time is the charm, cause this one seems to be working.
I uploaded the site to the server this morning (all 7400+ files) and initiated the domain name server change to point dragon-city.org at the new server. DNS changes take up to 36 hours to propagate their way across the Internet, but dragon-city.org should start working again soon. If you're using a major ISP, they've probably already picked up the DNS change and will route you to the new server. If not, it should start working again within a day. Note you may have to hit reload to get that temporary page I put up out of your browser's cache and view the real site again.
If the DNS change hasn't reached you yet, you can access the site directly by using this URL:
http://70.98.54.41/~dragonciThat should take you to the front page no matter what and it should be working right now. You should be able to use www.dragon-city.org again within a day if it's not already working (remember to hit reload).
I hope my web hosting company troubles are over now so I can get back to work on creating content for the site instead of dealing with these hassles. It figures this had to happen just as I left on vacation. Any other time and I could have moved to a new server much sooner.
Anyway, the fan site is back with more new content on the way!
