Title: Trying To Make A Db Pc Game....
Description: Just starting...

Liliwen - November 4, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
I've just downloaded a free game maker, aptly called Game Maker. So I'm trying to make a platform type game. Since I'm still looking at tutorials, it'll be a while before I actually finish it. But till then, I would like input....
In my game, Armaggeddon takes away Beau, the gauntlet and the amulet, and Artha has to go through all different levels to get them back. Each time he finishes a level, he'll gain new things and moves. Oh, and he lost his memory when Armaggeddon attacked him... :faint:
Any plot ideas, levels ideas or anything is appreciated. Since this is my first game, it might stink, but I'll try.
I downloaded it at Game Maker if you want to help, that's great!

I sugest you a good story line, Maybe Artha trying to prevent Armagedomm starte the second DH war, plan how many levels the game will have and who will appear (Kitt, Parm, moordryd ) and their role there.

Skylii - November 4, 2006 05:56 AM (GMT)
Hmm, well, what genre of game is it? Is it an RPG? Platform game? Racing? Timed? Various elements of each? ^^

Well, I think I can help you out with plot. And I have a few ideas for some abilities. Since Artha has amnesia, you can incorporate all the ones used already for him to re-learn. Better yet, you could have each of his pals and some others teach him several things.

For example, especially in an RPG-stylus or somewhat, Connor teaches him the basics of pretty much the game and general atmosphere and gives him most of the advice, Kitt teaches him about racing and competition (despite the fact he doesn't have Beau, however, he could be partners with her in some kinda tag team competition where one dragon is needed), Parm teaches him about gear, and Lance is street-smart. Several of the crew leaders and other citizens could also give some advice.

So yeah, I have some pretty good ideas for a storyline and whatnot. If you'd like to hear more, drop me a PM or something. And good luck with this game! :)

Mmmmmmm...
Sounds like fun ^_^

It's gonna be an RGP platform game. Hmmm, SB leads/pushes DB in front of Armaggeddon. Armaggeddon takes away Beau, gauntlet and amulet. Artha then gets amnesia. Since Armaggeddon thought that was too easy, he leaves Artha and challenges him to come to the Old City to a temple which he now has as his lair. Now you begin playing. Connor and the others will appear every so often to tell you about stuff. Each level you complete, they will come and show you how to do new moves, give you new gear. Eventually Artha rescues Beau and now you can learn mag moves and stuff. Armaggeddon is surprised to learn this, and vows to actually try to stop him now. Then you get the gaunltet and amulet, then do battle with SB, then hopefully defeat Armaggeddon, the ultimate boss!
I'm thinking about three levels in Dragon City to get used to the game, recieve your mag-staff perhaps green trapping gear, then you go down to the Old City for three levels and fight. Then you arrive at Armeggys secret lair....
Tell me if you think something is wrong, have better ideas, etc. I really need better ideas!
No racing, timed or anything in it.

you could probably use skylii's sprites, she has some pretty good sprites

thats a pretty good idea you have there, i'll be sure to play it when you finish it, don't forget to give us a demo

Will do, but it will take a while. I'm still trying to figure out how everything works. So far you can make Artha move and jump and climb ladders...

Liliwen - June 6, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
I twas browsing the forums, and I saw that someone was trying to make a DB racing game. I got a kick in the head and remembered about this one. :P I kinda got discouraged. When I made Artha jump and move to the right or left in the air, he sorta floated. Artha doesn't normally float. Anyway, a day or so ago I downloaded a tutorial or something like that, and now the jumping and stuff work fine. Hopefully I'll finish a turtorial for my game sometime. Now...

*peers at it* It's small, I know but that's the sprite I made and am currently using for Artha. That's when he's standing. I tried to make a walking animation of him...but it doesn't look good. His walking is just...awful, and funny in a way. :D So if someone wants to try to make an animation of him walking to the right, that'd be great.

And if someone wants to do a background of Mid City. You know, kinda orangey, with dark buildings in the background. Something about 400 by 400 pixels at the smallest. Otherwise I'll just make the background a plain colour for the tutorial. If you choose to do this, make it detailed. I like detail. ;)

And download Game Maker if you want to really help, it's not really that hard. You can create an entire game by just dragging and dropping commands and stuff. :)

This sounds drac!
I think that you should have him get certain flash backs or something that he remembers so he can do more complicated mag moves or whatever. One plot twist could be that Armegeddon infects Beau with one of the League of Eight bone marks.
And dont get disouraged about how Artha looks.

Khatah - June 7, 2007 06:49 AM (GMT)
Sounds very Drac, and super fun.

That would be awesome being artha trying to prevent the dragon human war.

I'm going to do something like that. After you defeat certain levels I'll either make Artha remember a mag-move, or have someone teach him.

I found a template and made a better Artha sprite that I actually like.

I also found a good platform engine, and now a lot of my problems have been fixed. But can you help me come up with names? The one I'm using right now, is 'The Lurking Evil'. Got any better names for my game?

Dragon Fanatic - August 7, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
I was thinking. Maybe you can have that each person has a different skill and each person is needed to get though the different levels. ex. ONe level has a lot of stuff needed to get broken so use Cyrano and Parm. And that in the end if DB beats Sb in the fight, SB agrees to help him beat Armeggaddonn.

For names, I can think of, (it's really bad)

Dragon Booster: Armeggaddonn's Wrath

That's a good idea, but I'm just going to use Artha. If I make more characters, it'd take more work, and I want to keep my game a little simple. :)

I like your name better than the one I have. But Armeggeddon doesn't really do anything until the end, so I don't think wrath would work.

Dragon Fanatic - August 7, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
I got it!

Dragon Booster: Armeggaddonn's Revenge! (Cuz of Battle For the Ages)

Liliwen - August 7, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
:) In my game SB works for Armeggy, so it's before Battle for the Ages. This game takes place...sometime before The Mouth That Roared. Got any more names? :P Right now my brain doesn't want to think of any... :faint:

Dragon Fanatic - August 7, 2007 07:34 PM (GMT)
I got another one!

Dragon Booster: Armeggaddonn's Challenge

Shearkin - August 18, 2007 02:24 AM (GMT)
wow sound' liek your games is really going to be fun !!!
~Shearkin

Dragon Fanatic - August 20, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
Oh, where'd you get the program? I'd like to make a game too! :D And you could have the other characters with certain tips like how to jump and stuff. Just a thought

Liliwen - August 20, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
I'm switching the game's name to Armeggeddon's Challenge. I like that one. :)

Download Game Maker 7 Here!

The game is coming slowly, but I managed to make a crow-drag fly around, and Artha can get killed by it. *evil laugh*

I'm planning on having Kitt, Parm and Lance to give tips whenever you press a certain button. Kitt with the street advice, Parm with the gear and such, and Lance...with random things that turn out to be very useful. :D

Should I have a tutorial level, or should I have everything explained in game? I'm leaning towards having everything (controls and such) explained in game.

Dragon Fanatic - August 20, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Oh! I said Armeggaddonn's Challenge! That's one of my titles! ^_^ THat is cool! :P The rest of the ideas are great too!

Alright. I think I might make a game of my own. I'll let y'all know.

Crystal Wildfyr - August 25, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
Sounds so DRAC!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to see and play it! I can't help with animations, but I can write a basic storyline, help with backgrounds, and mayby other stuff.

Liliwen - August 26, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
You can do level designs, some storyline writing, backgrounds, sound effects, voices, spriting...whatever you want. I haven't worked on my game too much, but anything you want to do will help. :)

Crystal Wildfyr - August 26, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
I'll take level designes, storyline, and other stuff if I don't need any other equipment or programs... mayby I'll Down load Game maker...

Dragon Fanatic - August 27, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
Oh, I was wondering if I would be able to help too...

Liliwen - August 27, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
Sure. :) Just tell me whatever you feel like doing.

Dragon Fanatic - August 27, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
Hum, what do you need done? If there's stuff like dialogue I can help. Or anything really. I'm not sure what left. It looks like you and Crystal Wildfyr have everything taken care of.

Liliwen - August 28, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Well, right now I thought I'd plan the first three levels out, basic storyline and some enemies and traps. You could give me some level designs. And traps or whatever. Right now I have horizontal moving platforms, so I need more ideas...about everything. After the design, enemies for the first three levels and traps are figured out, then I guess you guys can help me with spriting, sound effects and whatever else to do for the levels. Then, if by some odd, lucky chance that I am actually able to code everything, I can post the game with the first three levels for people to play. :)

Deathshallcome - August 28, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
heres an idea Liliwen... once you start really getting this game to go begin to make levels specific for Beau or any other of the dragons.

Liliwen - August 28, 2007 12:58 AM (GMT)
Hmm...I like the idea. I could probably have some levels designed specifically for Beau. He's going to be the only playable dragon in the game. But those would come much later in the game.

Dragon Fanatic - August 28, 2007 02:33 PM (GMT)
Alrighty then! I'll get straight to work!

Liliwen - October 16, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
Meh, I haven't really done anything more on my game, been too busy. But here're some screenshots just for the heck of it.

In game screenshot.

Main menu screenshot. (Has just realized that the game title hasn't been chnged yet.)

...and the sprite for Artha.
