Title: Word's Claw Thingy
Armeggadon - October 29, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
Why exactly does Word have claws?
Skylii - October 30, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
Better yet, why does SENTRUS have claws?
Is this some kinda fashion statement for rich, upper-class drama queens or something?
Armeggadon - October 30, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
YUp.
This just in, extremely long claws are the new fashion. Wait, there's more, you can even rip through your enemies with them.
turkmen - October 30, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
Actually Word's claws could be pretty good to scrach his back, me thinks.

That does indeed appear to be the case. So far, the claws haven't exhibited any special functionality, nor have they hinted that they might be a prosthetic for a past injury. Until then, I'm going with fashion statement. :)

I've always assumed that they were prosthetic. Word works with or has worked with gear, dragons, and used to race, all of which present some risk of injury. He might have just found a dragon with a short fuse, had a gear design gone awry, or just had some bad racing accident or been sabotaged, neither of which seem all that uncommon.
Armeggadon - October 30, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
Sentrus has the claws too.
Liliwen - October 30, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
Hopefully, when we see the academy we'll see others with claws which will probably clear this up more. I also go with fashion acessory, but for Word I like to think his fingers are gone. Makes him more humane...

I haven't seen most of the new episodes, so I didn't know.
But to reach such a high status, Sentrust most likely had to do something that had to do with dragons, whether it be trainer or racer, or even both. I think I come off sounding as though my ideas are set in stone, but I'm not sure how willing I'd be to trade my fingers in on some metal contraption.
The Furox - November 1, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
Losing fingers is within the realm of possibility, but it seems a bit grim to me. And since we've gone 38 episodes without any hint of any sort of injury, I tend to have to think the claws are just for decoration.
SailorYue - November 1, 2006 05:16 AM (GMT)
well Centris wears 2 claws, and it looks to me like they stick to the ends of her fingrtips as well as a pair of gloves. she might wear them to be more intimidating, if being over 6ft isnt enough XD
SilverDragon - November 1, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
I think I've seen fingers under those claws.
But I'm going with status-symbol. In a society that revolves around dragons, I think that dragon-related objects as status symbols would be all the rage.
Armeggadon - November 1, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
hmmmmmm, maybe they'll get tails next
IbanezJFS - November 15, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
AH there fake a press ons hahahaha.
Liliwen - November 15, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
Could it also be true that the number of claws show your status? Word practically owns Down City and owns a huge company, so of course he would have five, the largest number you can obtain. (Who wants claws on both of their hands?) And since Sentrus is only an academy scout, she only has two. That's my idea.
And for those who've seen Damaged Goods, did the big, powerful, master of Dragon City guy have claws on his hands?
Armeggadon - November 16, 2006 11:42 PM (GMT)
oh, I thoguht sentrus had 5?
Liliwen - November 17, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
Well, I don't remeber seeing Sentrus with claws. (Haven't recently seen an eppie with her in it.) But as SailorYue said...

heres a shot of sentris from No Paynne no gain, her right hand and a close up of her left:

they just look like fancy gloves, where as words stick to his fingers themselves, with full movement
btw, one question: what is the corect spelling of her name? ive seen it spelt 4 diferent ways on this board -_-;;;; why dont they update the oficial site with the new characters?
power of dragon - November 17, 2006 07:01 PM (GMT)
Maybe they have claws instead of those stick on nails, the stick on nails usually break off or become unglued, but as for word, his claws would be handy for opening things, the pointy sharpness would be handy for opening things. The claws are probably for looks, and maybe for opening things. Ha I could see an commercial for them "forget scissors, or letter openers, get the hand claws excellent for a scary look, plus the convenience of opening things"

It is Sentrus. Trust the power of Close Captioning. :)
Doesn't matter what style the claws are. It definitely seems like a decoration for the high-in-power rich drama queens. You slip 'em on, and people know you have the power.
Why ELSE was Word rearranging the claws right before he made his VIDDMessage of 1337 importance? (The Wraith Booster) XD
EDIT: Because pictures are not supposed to be quoted. ^^;
Liliwen - November 18, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
Thanx SailorYue for the pic. I assumed they were full claws like Word's, but now I know better. :P

Good point, I forgot about that. ^_^
DemonicFury - December 9, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
I think that they're finger armor. I looked it up and they look like the picture of the armor. It's strange but possibly true. :eye:
Here's the picture:
The Armor
koering - December 18, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
mabey they both thought they were cool  .....hmmm.....*pondering*..........
i stick by what i said
Salazaar - December 18, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
I think they're a status thing.
Although Word's could be an injury, for why else would they look so closely attached to his fingers? It just looks wierd. I think Sentrus's are for Decoration/status stuff, but they don't look as closely attached to her hads like Word's do. Her's don't seem to move motion for motion like Word's do either...
hhmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......................
koering - December 19, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
hmmm :plot:.... i guess you are right . but i atill think they are cool
Renesh - January 7, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Just wanted to add that the Dragon Master (Academy dude in the last ep) wears the same claws as Sentrus. They probably are either for fasion or work as some sort of ranking system. Or maybe Word has his cuz they look cool and Sentrus and the Dragon Master have them because all employees at the Academy have those glove-things? Or maybe only high-ranking people from the Academy have them? Dunno.
(though my personal theory is that they aren't entirely human and the claws start growing once they reach a certain age![thus why {Moor}Dryd doesn't have any] What the claws look like is a family trait, different families have different claws! So Sentrus would be a relative of the Dragon Master, possibly his daughter[which I think is possible regardless of the rest of this])
BTW, has anyone else noticed that the Dragon Master seems to be mute or something?
Liliwen - January 8, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
People of high importance wear claws. Which is why Sentrus, Word and the Dragon Master wear them. Word just went overboard with them. He might have thought those were sissy claws, and went for the full, threatening set. :P That's my full veiw of it, anyway.
They grow claws? So are there two species of humans in Dragon City? Those who can grow claws and those who can't? Otherwise, Connor would have them too, right?
Renesh - January 8, 2007 03:03 AM (GMT)
Well, explaining my entire theory (the claw thing was only a sectin of it) would be pretty much off-topic, and would make me look like an idiot too, so if you ant me to then send me a PM. The part I will say is that only an extreme few have enough of this not-quite-human blood for claws to grow, though a VERY small amount isn't uncommon.

I highly doubt thy grow, otherwise Word wouldn't be able to rearrange them in that eppie. But it's an interesting theory.
Renesh - January 8, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I don't remember him re-arranging them....I remember him moving something, but I didn't notice they were his claws. I'm gonna have to watch that episode again.
koering - January 9, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
What episode are you guys talking about? cuz if it is either battle for the ages or damaged goods I don't want to know about it cuz i havent seen it. but still what episode are u guys talking about?
Liliwen - January 9, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
At the moment, Wraith Booster, where Word was fiddling with his claws in his vidd message. Otherwise, any other episode really. All about claws. :P
Renesh - January 17, 2007 07:26 AM (GMT)
Okay, I watched Wraith Booster again and he was fiddling with the microphone he had attached to his clothes! Ergo, he was not fiddling with his claws! *grins like a maniac* The mic is what he was referring to when he said "is this thing on?"
(ergo is like..."thus" or "therefore" etc.)
And I'm working on getting that theory typed up, honestly!
Liliwen - January 17, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
*thinks* Last time I watched Wraith Booster was....too long ago. :P Word needs a new microphone. :P Okay, claws are super glued on. ^_^

koering - January 21, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
o they might just fit naturally without having to be superglued
The Hydrag - April 2, 2007 12:30 AM (GMT)
Actually Ive been trying to build my own set of claws for years but cant quite figure it out..Very handy in a fight. Also did anyone notice if in any of the eppisodes with Drakkus was word still wearing his claws in his draconium suit?
