A little while back I was browsing through the fantasy section at my local Barnes and Nobles when I cam across a book entitled His Majesty's Dragon. Being the dragon lover I am I picked it up and scanned the summary on the back. Apparently the story was set in the Napoleonic era, where dragons were used in combat as an aerial force. I read through it fairly quickly and enjoyed it. It was not long before I bought the other two books in the series and read them too.
I especially liked the authors portrayal of the dragons, especially the lead Temeraire. He had such a great personality, as did most of the other dragons. It was also interesting how the dragons were used for war, with rigging much like that of naval vessels. They were loaded with bombs to drop on their targets as most of the dragons did not breathe fire, this was a rare talent reserved for only a few select breeds, and sitll other dragons could spit acid. There's much more to add, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. ;)
All in all a very enjoyable read! Even more interesting perhaps is that Peter Jackson is considering adopting His Majesty's Dragon to the big screen. I'd certainly love to see it!
