Title: Cool Combos!
Description: Discover a drac card combo? Share it!

The Furox - September 29, 2006 08:38 AM (GMT)
One of the fun things about trading card games is discovering really cool card combos that have powerful effects. This thread is for sharing what you've found with others.

Here's one to kick things off:

In turn 5, play Total Recall. When you start a battle with this card, play The Power of Emotion. Then on your next move during the battle, activate the battle effect on Total Recall. Normally, you would have to discard Total Recall at this point, however the Power of Emotion event card allows you to keep it in play. Your rival will have to discard their rushing card, which means you will have a rushing in the battle and they won't. This means you will win the battle and get the full 15 points from Total Recall. You need 30 points to win the game, so this one move gets you half way to victory! If you've built your deck correctly, you should have won some battles on turns 1-4, so you should have accumulated some points by now. If you played well so far, you may already have 15 points by turn 5 which means you will win with this move! And course, you can use Immense Power to get Total Recall into your hand if you haven't already drawn it by turn 5 (assuming you're running a red dragon of course).

Cool, huh? :cookie:

Your rival may have defenses for this move of course. For example, they may have Red Fire Grenade Gear which would stop you from gaining any points from this move. If they have that gear magged, try to damage it with Malfunction, or just skip using the battle effect on Total Recall and play the battle out as best you can.

Have you found any cool combos yourself? Post'em here!

I'm trying but I have no good cards except for Beau.

If you're running Beau, be sure to take advantage of his ability to change color. Since there are no gold maneuvers in the premiere edition and since the gold events only require a burst of 1 to play them, there's nothing to be gained by keeping his color as gold. Since Beau is the only dragon with balanced stats (all 2), he becomes quite powerful for playing event cards as any other color dragon because of the way your stats all go up by 2 when you play an event that matches your dragon's color. So his stats become all 4s for whatever color you pick. That gives you access to wide variety of event cards for that color without having to mag any gear to get the zap cap bonus. This makes Beau powerful for playing events right on turn 1.

For example, if you were to pick red for his color, then you could play Mark of the Dragon during main on turn 1 and immediately mag a second piece of gear. If you have this card in your hand for turn 1, then a good strategy is to recruit Connor Penn during the gear-up phase prior to main. This lets you add a second color to Beau for access to even more events, plus you can still mag a gear with the Mark of the Dragon card. A good choice of course is the Light Green Modification Gear which allows you to mag two additional pieces of gear right away. If you have all these cards, on turn 1 you can potentially have recruited Connor and now have given Beau two colors, and magged three pieces of gear before the first battle even begins. And you've only played a single event card!

It's fun to run Beau. I also particularly like running Phorrj. His battle effect is really powerful if you build your deck right. Add Embyrr and lots of gear, plus four copies of Aerial Assist and four copies of Ancient Might, and you can really smoke your opponent if they're not prepared for this. :) I've beaten weak players as early as turn 4 when running Phorrj like this.

Such a fun game. :)

All I've got is two starter decks, any ideas?

The Furox - December 27, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
With only two starter decks, your options are pretty limited. I take it you want to pool both decks to construct a single play deck, right? If so, first take out all the events that have a burst value higher than you can get with whichever dragon you've chosen to run. Be sure you understand all the rules related to burst values. For example, if the event is the same color as your dragon, then your dragon's stats all gain +2. Also, the gear you mag will add +1 to one of your dragon's stats. So based on which dragon you have and which gear you think you can use (watch the color boxes), you'll be able to figure your dragon's maximum stats. So discard any events over that since you won't be able to play them. You probably also want to get rid events that require lots of gear to be magged since those can only be used in the latter portion of the game, if at all.

Then, try to pick out the maneuvers in each energy level (1, 2, 3 and so on) that have the highest sprint value or perhaps have an effect you think will be useful with your dragon, gear or events you think you'll be playing. You'll want to have more energy 1 maneuvers than any others to ensure you'll draw one on turn 1. Then have a few less energy 2, fewer energy 3 and so on, and only like maybe 3 energy 6 maneuvers. Fill out the rest of your deck with any useful events you might have. If the event cards you have aren't all that useful with the dragon you have, then load your deck with extra maneuvers instead.

By the way, which dragons did you get?

Lance Penn - December 28, 2006 01:27 PM (GMT)
Thanks a lot. The dragons I acquired are the same, two of "Fracshun".

The Furox - December 28, 2006 05:08 PM (GMT)
Fracshuns high agility stat makes him one of the best dragons to try and pull off the "Launch" strategy. To do this, you'll need to get four copies of all the blue energy 1 maneuvers plus four copies of a rare event card called Launch!. This event lets you play maneuvers from your discard pile. If you can pull it off properly, you can really overwhelm your opponent. It's not an easy strategy, and I haven't perfected it yet. Sometimes it works really well and I win hands down, other times I lose. So I need to work on that deck some more.

Fracshun's effect is meant to be used with the Launch! strategy. Unless you're playing that strategy, then you shouldn't use his effect (it says "may", so using it is optional).

Have fun! :)
