Title: Crocodile Hunter Dead
Description: R.I.P Steve Irwin
SilverDragon - September 4, 2006 10:34 AM (GMT)
Terrible news, my friends...I never thought this would happen. I mean, a FISH got him. Not a crocodile. :(
Cepheus - September 4, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)
:faint: Half of me was always waiting for him to get bit, but it still comes as a shock.
CNN has something about it on the homepage. It'll open up a short movie about it if you click "Crocodile Hunter Killed" under "FULL STORY".
Penny Dreadful - September 4, 2006 01:35 PM (GMT)
I actually heard about this in the middle of the night. Someone woke me up to tell me. He was actually pierced through the heart by a sting-ray barb from what I hear. It is a shame. I really liked the guy, but we all knew it was just a matter of time. You don't get that close to potentially dangerous animals...They don't like it...The fact that it was a sting-ray is a bit odd. From what I've experienced they're usually pretty sweet, almost cat-like critters. They usually don't sting unless they feel threatened.
Shadow Dragon - September 4, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)
I heard this during the morning. That's sad, I really looked up to that guy. He was brave and amazing. Wow....I used to always watch his shows when I was a younger kid. Heh, he was my hero for awhile.
Oh, so the sting-rays are the poisonous ones? I always thought it was manta rays. *foreheadsmack* Duh, it says 'Sting' ray. Wow, I'm slow.
arthur - September 4, 2006 03:40 PM (GMT)
I just can't say in words how sad to me this is...
I've always admired him, watched all his shows etc. And to think he died only 44... at least it was instant death and Steve suffered no agony... I can't imagine how Terri took it... and now she's alone with 2 children, think about them, how they will take it.
If I would live in Australia I would certainly attend his funeral. If I get to travel around the world, I'll go to Australia and put some flowers on the grave of a great man - Steve Irvin.
Rest in peace, Steve Irvin. We will all miss you much and will remember you like a hero.
I can't believe he died like this :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Armeggadon - September 4, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah, even the prime minister of australia was saddened to hear news of his death. He was only 44. Like you said a fish got him. I can't beleive he died getting stabbed by a stingray. They're not even considered dangerous. Well, atleast he went happy doing what he loved doing. :( :( :( :(
arthur - September 4, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
I take my words about his death back. The news said that a rescue helicopter picked him up and Steve died on the way to the hospital.
The sting has two small poisonous stings which is deadly if poison gets the vital organs. Meaning he was in terrible agony :(.
Not only the heart was wounded, its muscle tissue cut and there was inner bleeding which is deadly by itself, but also the poison had spread across his body as much as the heart could pump.
But I suppose if the blood was flowing out of the hear, and not to the arteries, rapidly, he would be in a semi-faint state meaning that he didn't feel everything.
I certainly hope he didn't have to suffer :(.
Such a man... gone. :(

Oh man, to think such a great guy might have been in so much pain. Farewell Croc man. :( :( :(

Poor Steve. I hope his family is doing alright. :(
I allways watched that show when i was younger i even went to see his movie. :(
I've always looked up to him, you got to be brave to do what he did.
If i lived in Australia i would go to the funeral. :(
We will miss you Steve :( :( :(
The Furox - September 4, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
This was a real surprise to me too when I read it in the paper this morning. Given what he does for a living, injuries would be expected, but death like this is real surprising and sad.
I always enjoyed watching his talk show appearances. He was rather eccentric, but he had so much energy and enthusiasm for what he did and was always upbeat and positive about things.
It's particularly sad when someone dies young like that. He will be missed.

I read that he was unconscious for the most part. Apparently the paramedics tried to revive him, but were unable to.
*Sighs* I was always waiting for the guy to get bit by something, I mean, he had been dodging snakes and crocodiles for all of his life. I think most of us knew that at some point that passion of his would get him into trouble, but I guess it's still rather shocking to find out that the guy who had kept out of the croc's jaws got nailed by a stingray.
I'm definitely going to miss watching someone like that. And I must wonder what it felt like for his daughter, Bindi. She was there when he died, and it must be horrible to watch your father die and be completely unable to help him.
Keeper of the Black dragon - September 4, 2006 11:10 PM (GMT)
She was there..
:(
poor Bindi. :( :( :(
Hope she's alright. :(

Terri, Bindi, and Bob were all in Tasmania yesterday, so Bindi wasn't there at all.
I hope his conservation work will continue.
Hunter - September 5, 2006 12:52 AM (GMT)
Yes this was all over the news today. At least he didn't die all gory, like he might of done. May everyone remember him as a kind, energetic man who lit up the world, at the same time teaching them a little something about out Mother Earth.
Airshadow - September 5, 2006 12:58 AM (GMT)
:( It's terrible that this happens but not really surprising, to be honest it was matter of time that somethign like this happens :( Ididnt seen al his shows but I like those ones that I've seen
ēGod Keep his sould :(

Really? This was an exact quote from the link that SilverDragon posted (although this seems to be updated, since I can't find the quote I had):

| Irwin was killed while shooting footage for a new show he was doing with Bindi. |
Apparently the stingray barb that killed him was twenty centimeters long. :faint: Now that had to be painful... It also said that Steve died after pulling the barb out of his own chest, and then lost consciousness. He might have been alive long enough to feel the pain, but at least he didn't feel most of it.

Trust me on this, Tassie is my state. They chartered a flight from my local airport, and there was footage of all of them at the airport on the evening's news.
He may have been planning to involve Bindi in the show, but I doubt he'd take her diving on camera just yet.
Sparx - September 5, 2006 01:33 AM (GMT)
I saw a bit of that on the evening news as well. I've met Terri at Australia Zoo and she's a lovely person. This must be so hard for her and the kids and everyone who worked with Steve. It was a shock to me because he's one of the people you think are invincible. He's got away with handling so many dangerous animals and to be killed by a stingray is something of an irony. I used to watch all of his shows on TV.
The official site is asking for donations to go to Wildlife Warriors Worldwide. Just thought I'd mention it.

heard this on the plane back home this morning
my mom was sitting behind me and tapped my dad the shoulder and said that the "croc guy" died, at first i was confused so i asked her if she meant the crocodile hunter and she said yes, this came to a total shock to me yet i was still a little confused, so i swiched the channel that my mom was watching(my plane had the little tvs on the back of the seats) i was so sad to actually realize the truth :(
i wanted to shout this out to the entire plane, but i didn't
yes at least he died doing what he loved
the news said he was filming a documentary about dangerous under water creatures, i guess they will have to discontinue it :( but if they don't i will beg and plead to my parentsto see it, and if they still say no then field trip!
i'd so go to australia right now to give the family some flowers or put some flowers at the zoo he worked at(i saw people doing that) why couldn't my uncle have his wedding in australia
"I belive that I was brought to this world to help save the animals" i can't remeber the exacted words he said but it was something like that
i didn't watched all of his shows, but i did see the crocodile hunter movie
i guess he was one of my heros too

i remeber watchingone of his shows a few years back, he was on the ground, anf i think a frilled lizard was in front of him, and as he was talking it jumped up and bit him on the nose, that was honestly funny
i say lets have a moment of silence and build a statue of him in every place he has visited and and every other place that we want a staute of him in, then again lets just build a statue of him at the zoo he worked at
so sad :( so sad :(

Apparently it wasn't the poison, it was more the damage done by the stingray's barb.

Penny Dreadful - September 5, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
I feel I need to stand up for the stingray again  . They're not aggressive creatures in the least. Any time they sting, it's only a defensive mechanism. Their sting isn't even poisonous. It's a protein-based venom, so it's just VERY painful, not deadly. In fact, I'm fairly sure that only three people have EVER been killed by a stingray and in each of those cases it's just plain old bad luck. I'm sure Steve wouldn't want you to blame the stingray.
Like Lightning Flash said, Terri and Bindi weren't there. The only thing that worries me is that his death was caught on camera. I'm a little nervous they'll put it on television. I'm not sure about what they will or won't air in some other countries, but here the media is quite vicious. I know I've seen more Iraq executions on the news than I care to recount.
Sparx - September 5, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
I doubt they'll show it on TV but I heard it was leaked on the net. I'm not looking it up though because a) putting it up on the net is disrespectful to Steve's family and b) I don't want to see it.
Cepheus - September 6, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
I actually heard that there was a man who offered over half a million dollars for something like three minutes on camera. :faint: First off, I must wonder what he was planning to do with that, and second, I wonder whether or not he planned on turning it into a tribute, or just wanted to see how much he could make by selling copies of the tape on Ebay.
Armeggadon - September 6, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
Some people have no conscious. That's why it's being leaked on the net.

I have to agree with you Penny Dreadful, they aren't aggressive, and if they attack is because they feel in danger.
And the last think and not less important, they are wild animals. It's his nature to act like that. Everyone that work with wild animals, (even if they are trained) say that they have to be very careful with them.

I'm not really a big fan of him, but I'm really sad when I heard about his death. I was shocked when I first heard about his death while flipping through the newspaper. I even cried when I read the news... :(
We'll miss him very much... :(

That sounds alot like how I feel.....................Only it's not even that close to the saddness I feel.................. He was my Hero...........And he probably still is, I'm just too busy and foggy-minded to see it right know............. :( I felt like I would never hear that "Hey Steve Died....." I.............. that was just like losing a family member for me............... I don't know why...........
I looked up to him, and I'm glad he died in the sea, doing what he loved, instead of in, like, a horible, bloody car-crash or something........
I will always remember him as a friendly, determinded man, who wanted to show the world that Snakes, Crocodiles, Sting-Rays, Sharks........................................
Basically every animal that a human being said "God, I hate those!!" wasn't as bad as they seemed,............. and he was right.... :(
He taught me sooooooooooooo much, it was like he ws my childhood Dangerous animal teacher! :cookie:
I watched his show all the time, and so would my family.
The world would have to wait because Steve Irwin was on the TV!! ;)
I'll miss him soooooo much, and It makes me said that people are killing sting-rays
now, just cause they are filled with meaningless hate for the animal........
They just direct their saddness and grief and anger at the animals,.............. and that's, in my eyes,...... one of the worst things you can do besides kill another human being,............ blame an animal species and go around killing them,..... because you're sad that something that didn't seem to fit........... you think happened because of them................. :( :( :(
That just hurts me so deeply..... :(
I will never forget him, and I continue to pray for him and his family........
I hope people will frogive the sting-rays, and help them instead.
Keep the Conservation Programs running!
For Steve!! :cookie:
