Title: A Voice Now Silenced...
J`Rin Tekaar - August 22, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
On August 13th, 2006 actor Tony Jay passed away in Los Angeles, California due to complications from cancer surgery. Mr. Jay provided many animated characters a distinctive voice, such as Megabyte from Mainframe Entertainment`s 'Reboot'.
A great voice has been silenced, and will be greatly missed.

Aw, that's sad. He did so many voices. In particular, he was memorable as Shere Khan on "Tale Spin" and Virgil in "Mighty Max", not to mention all his live action roles. He will be missed indeed.

I heard this about a week ago on another forum I go to. First Mako then Tony Jay. I loved "Reboot" and "Tale Spin"..."Tail Spin"...not sure. I recall Mighty Max as well. The man had a great "evil" voice.

It's sad when such people that you like/adore/love pass away. We want them to be forever with us but are powerless to change the way of life...
They may pass away and disappear from our world but memories of them will live with us for hundreds of years.
May his soul find the eternal rest.

I just remembered another big voice role Tony Jay had that probably everyone here has heard: he was Frollo in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. He really did well in those types of parts. And for the Gargoyles fans here: he voiced Anubis in the episode "Grief".
Here's the
link to his page on imdb.com if anyone wants to see list of roles he has done.
I think I'll need to watch Hunchback again soon and pull out my old tapes of "Mighty Max".

Like I said, the man had a GREAT "evil" voice. I was obsessed with the song "Hellfire" from Hunchback of Notre Dame...much to the distress of my teachers... ^_^ He just made it so catchy.
I didn't realize he was Chairface, on the Tick or in Eerie Indiana though. I still remember him best as Megabyte...with Scuzzy...good memories. :D I was quite the Gargoyles fan as well.

That was a powerful song, wasn't it. And so un-Disney-like, too. It's a long way from songs like "Whistle While You Work." I still find it hard to believe they were so bold to put a song like that into one of their G rated features, especially since it's a given that all the usual groups would complain about it (which they did). Not surprisingly, they omitted this song from the live stage version of the movie that showed at Disney World back in the late 90's. Of all their live shows I've seen there over the years, that remains one of my favorites. I give Disney a lot of credit for trying some darker tones in their movies. And Tony Jay's performance was great. This is the only instance I can remember where he was singing. That song was one of my favorite sequences in the movie as well.

Me, too. I still go to the fan conventions when they're in California. (The next one is in Tennessee for anyone living in the mid-Atlantic states.)
