Title: Egh... Braces

Skye - June 21, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
I just got braces today and they are really annoying, I hate it when food gets stuck in my teeth but this... this is an absolute nightmare!

random-one - June 21, 2006 08:41 PM (GMT)
:eep: noooooo do they hurt? :eep:
you will soon get use to them ;)

phsycopathicdragon - June 21, 2006 09:08 PM (GMT)
Hopefully you'll get used to them later, i did too with mine a few years ago. But still, when you first get them, that must really suck.

Cepheus - June 21, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
I have my second set now...I had them for two years already, and I could have them up to three now...

Just wait for them to start hurting... :eep:

ShadowCat - June 21, 2006 10:24 PM (GMT)
My sympathies!
I have to get all of my wisdom teeth out in July, but I'm looking foward to it because one of my teeth is hurting.

the power of ICE - June 21, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
I might have to get them, because of this stupid "v" in my bottom front teeth.

I feel sympathy for all of you though, most friends say it's not that great.

Skye - June 22, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
yeah they are hurting now, though I have to say getting wisdom teeth removed isn't bad at all.
I apparently have a very screwed up mouth you see, I started off with the removal of five wisdom teeth (two were fused together and the dirty blighters charged us for it).
Then I went on to 'pallatal expansion' surgery which is where they make an incision through the bone of your top jaw, so basically my top jaw was 'free floating' and it felt spongy when I chewed... it was gross and painful.
Then I got an expansion device that widens your jaw with this little key thing and now I have both the braces with the expansion device in my mouth.
Next year I recieve the final jaw surgery which is breaking and re-aligning my bottom and/or top jaw to make my teeth line up and then i'll probably get a retainer for a bit.
I've had a retainer and an expansion device before and they all stink just the same.
I personally think the worst thing right now is the braces, at least with the jaw surgery they cut my nerves so I couldn't feel anything up until a few weeks ago.

Oh yes, how are we paying for all this? Go dental insurance! WHOO!

SilverDragon - June 22, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
I got mine off a few months ago....and have to wear a plastic plate at night.

Trust me, after a while you get used to them. The strangest thing is, when they come off it feels REALLY weird, like your teeth are going to fall down!

arrow - June 25, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
hey skye don't worry you'll get use to them
it might hurt for the first couple of days and a little bit after their tightend each month, and you may get a few teeth pulled but it is all worth when you get them off and look at your new straight teeth
your mouth will feel empty after you get them off

trust me i'm still wearing my braces, my top ones i've had for 2 years and a half and my bottom ones are closing in on two years, wich would be in sept.
but that won't happen since they are coming of in august

just to worn you, you might have to wear some elastic things that go from one bracket on the bottem to one braket on the top.
i had the expansion devise when i got my b races it sucks when food gets in there and same with the key things, and you talk wierd for the first week with them

dude the jaw surgry is a little extreme, but my mouth wasn't all that messed up (no offence), but i did have to get one tooth surgecly removed cause it was stuck in my gum(baby tooth came out when it wasn't supposed too) and it might have cause problems in the future
getting put to sleep is kind of wierd though cause i don't even remeber them putting the breathing tube in my nose and they said i was still awake then

but at leasrt i got to missed an entire day of school (joys of getting it done in the morning ;) )

how long do you have to wear your braces?

and you should take advil if your teeth hurt (tylanole doesn't work that good)

I used to suck my fumb, :faint: it started to slowly stop my botem jaw from growing properly. so then I nealy had to have my draw broken and relined :( If I hadn't off stopped sucking, I would of had to have warn a headbrace. :faint:

Skye - June 26, 2006 01:27 AM (GMT)
heheh thanks Arrow, though I have a high pain threshold I don't need advil too much. When I got surgery by the fifth day I was basically off the advil.
My braces will be on during the jaw surgery and will probably be used to keep my jaws bolted shut.

BTW radom-one I would have hated to have worn a head-brace :P

random-one - June 26, 2006 08:14 PM (GMT)
same I was lucky they gave me 6 years :D to try and stop my fumb sucking so I did  I still have a gap though but not as bad

Rachel C - June 26, 2006 09:31 PM (GMT)
Imight need braces, but the only braces i could have would be 'train track' braces.
I'm fine with that, but aparantly they really hurt to get put in. :(

Brightclaw - June 29, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
Back to the point! I had to have plates and four teeth removed, and it wasn't all that bad.
Soon you'll get used to it Skye!!

I got mine a few years ago... like 4 years ago.

I had them for one year, but then I moved out to another place.. really far from my dentist, so I had to go every friday to the dentist.. it was a waste of time... going through the highway every friday... for 4 hours.. and the worst thing was that the stupid dentist didnt finish my treatment, so my teeth aren't that straight. My upper teeth are ok, but the other ones are all weird.. haha lol. I will prolly get braces again.. T_T and I don't want to.

arrow - July 6, 2006 07:28 PM (GMT)
i foregot to mention again to not get light blue elastics
if you eat mustard (does matter how much) they'll turn a yellowy green
it took me around 2 to three weeks to brush it off(i might be exagerraty a little :) )
but not all of them will turn green :P

I got rid of mine a couple of years ago!   They were particulary rough on me because on my flute I had to push my lip against the braces and ouch. :( But all I got is a retainer. I just have to wear it at night now. Next step, don't need retainer.
