Title: Blind Guy Earns His MD
ShadowCat - April 4, 2005 05:07 AM (GMT)
I've just been reading my e-mail and have gotten at least five articles about this from various people! I think
this is the website, but I haven't actually gone into it, since the article was in the e-mails.
I personally think this is a good thing, but I have heard other blind people expressing doubts and saying that they wouldn't trust a blind doctor, which I was surprised to hear coming from other blind people!
My opinion is that he must have passed all the exams, so he must be able to do everything he'll need to or they wouldn't have let him pass!

He sounds like an incredibly smart guy, although I don't trust any doctor. :)

Imagine the amount of people who would have told him he couldn't it!

People are always being told they can't do stuff, blind or not. Sucky, but true. <_<

It's just a bit worse when you're blind. People can make things hard for you by not putting things in large print or Braille, as well. Believe me, I've been there! I'm lucky I can read most things, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten though high school very well. It was bad during Maths, though. I kept reading numbers wrong and stuff.

I'm bad at math anyway. *torches algebra book*
Hate to sound insensitive, but if you haven't been able to see your whole life, I figure you'll have found ways to compensate, and be equally competent.

I have, but it's annoying when people expect you to do stuff when you've told them you'll need help. There's just no way around it sometimes. Like having to walk somewhere when you don't have a cane and asking for help and having people completely ignore you. These were my classmates and teacher, who really should have done something. It was dark and I had no idea where I was going.

Society is training people not to care. It's a damn shame.

Good on him!
reminds me of something my singing teacher told me about, He knew a blind ballet dancer. Apparently one of the best dancers he'd seen- the guy had the stage size and all the other dancers positions in relation to his own position on stage completely memorised.
And never forget Beethoven was deaf, I mean this guy NEVER made a mistake writing music, litrally, he never revised or crossed anything out or bleached the paper or did redrafts. Seriously.

I think a lot of people have trouble understanding what it's like to be deaf or blind. You can't really understand it unless you've experienced it. People tend to think it's worse than it is. They also seem to assume that all blind people see nothing at all, when the reality is that some blind people have some sight, even if they can only see light and dark. There are even blind people who don't need canes or Braille. That used to be me before my sight got worse! It was actually kind of annoying, because I kept having to explain to everyone that I couldn't see and they didn't believe me sometimes..
People tend to think the same about deaf people as well. I know that some people are totally deaf, but all the deaf people I've met could hear a little bit. It was annoying not being able to talk to them with sign language!
