Title: My Holiday To Florida!

Brightclaw - April 14, 2006 09:26 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone! First off a big thankyou to the people running the adoption centre, it seems everything has been going smoothly while I was away.

Well I have had a great holiday and I would like to tell you all about it!
Day 1
We got into the Fort Wilderness lodge at about 4 PM (In american time.) But we all had jetlag so basically we fell asleep.

Day 2/3 (I can't remember)
We woke up at 4 AM. We still hadn't got used to the time in America so we were all wide awake, while everyone else was fast asleep. We decided to go to Downtown Disney to do some shopping then come back to the lodge and relax by the pool. As always I was the first to buy something. Me and my Dad went into the Virgin Megastore and I went completely insane when I saw the DB game. It was the last one, so I bought it immediatly. The rest of my family bought nothing (I'm a spendthrift though :P .)
After returning to the lodge we all relaxed by or in the pool. There were some baby Ducks and they were swimming in the pool. SO CUTE!!

Day 4
We went to Sea World. It was great! My mum and dad both started crying in the middle of Blue Horizons (The Dolphin and Whale show.) I must admit though it was a spectacular show. We had lunch after that and I had a Shamu lunchbox! We now have 4 of those :P . After about an hour of wandering we finally came to Shamu's stadium, where my brother picked to worst seats (In the 'soak zone'.) And it was called that for good reason. My Dad got completely soaked! We went on Journey to Atlantis afterwards and all of us got soaked. I was a little nervy about going on Kraken (A rollercoaster) So I decided to give it a miss.

Day 5
Best day of the holiday! We went to Discovery cove! Its apparently really hard to get a place there but my Mum and Dad managed to book the last slot. It was a wonderful day. First off, you get all your food and drink completely free. So if you want a choclate bar you can just go up and take one. So we had a swim in the lagoon for a while before eating. After our food we went up to the aviary. There loads of birds you could feed and my brother favoured a parrot with a poorly neck. There was this big fluffy bird that didn't mind you cuddling or stroking it and an evil pigeon that pecked you when you tried to feed it! After getting pecked and scratched in the aviary we went into the Tropical Lagoon. You can swim with loads of fish and enormous Manta Rays. The Rays were seriously big. Bigger than our coffee table and me and my brother were able to swim right above it.
At the end of the day we went swimming with DOLPHINS!! Awww. Our dolphin was called Hutch. And I rode on his back! He was beutiful and they kept them in special lagoons that were just like their natural eviroments. There were no tanks filled with chlorine and stuff, so the Dolphins were perfectly at home.

Anyway my fingers are hurting so I'll post some more a bit later on, with some pictures.

Aw, you should've gone. :) I've been on it. It's a fun ride.

Did you go on the new Expedition Everest ride over at Animal Kingdom? That one's new since my last visit there, so I haven't ridden that one yet.

The Furox - April 19, 2006 07:41 AM (GMT)
Yes, the King Tut Exhibit is awesome and well worth the trip. I saw it when it was in Los Angeles. It's in Fort Lauderdale for three more days, then it moves to Chicago, Philadelphia and then London. This is the first time the antiquities have been outside of Egypt in nearly 30 years, so if you're near those cities or can travel there, it's definitely worth seeing. You don't get to see artifacts like these from thousands of years ago very often. ;)

How about the King Tut wine rack? Or maybe the King Tut sarcophagus CD cabinet?

Lest anyone think I'm making those up, those are actually items they sell in the gift shop. Made me laugh. :D

So what did you get? The DVD, the King Tut head dress, the book, the T-shirt?? :)

Brightclaw - April 21, 2006 08:27 AM (GMT)
GAH! Stuff the pictures!

Day 6
We went back to Sea World to do the things we missed. I rode on Kraken...5 times! one of the best rolercoasters I'd ever been on. We went to watch Blue Horizons again, so my dad could record it. And my brother went crazy when he saw that there were Penguin crushed pennys available. He has a whole bookfull of crushed pennies from this trip and the last one. It was my Mum and Dads 25th anniversary so we had a meal in a posh resteraunt called Artist's Point. My little brother even ordered some Champane for them! Then I went back to my room and waited for a whole hour to watch DB. Unfortuantly it was one I had already seen.

Day 7
We decided to to Universal. It wasn't as good as Sea World though, but my favourite rides there on the first day were Spiderman (it had good graphics,) The Hulk rollercoaster and Dr. Dooms Doomsfall (you felt seriously weightless.) That was about it on our first Universal day.

Day 8
We went to Universal again, but this time to discovery Island. First we headed straight to Duelling Dragons to avoid queues. We went on the Fire train. It wasn't as good as Kraken though. After much pestering from me and my brother mum and dad let us go on the Jurassic Park ride. As much as I love Dragons I love Dinosaurs too. And we spent hours in the Jurassic Park section. I even mixed my DNA with a Pararsaurolophus, and it came out wearing glasses! Me and my family were killing ourselves laughing. Afterwards I bought a Duelling Dragons name tag for Shrinia ( as shes one of my best friends at school) and four Dinosaur toys. A Spinosaurus and baby, a Velociraptor and a Baby Allosaurus.

Day 9
We went to kennedy space centre. BAH! Talk about a boring day. The 3D films hurt my eyes and that Mad Mission to Mars got me so freaked out. But my brother and Dad liked it so I guess it wasn't a complete let down.

Ok Fingers hurting again. So more soon!

Hey Brightclaw, it sounds like you had cool trip! Looks like you had fun in your photos. :D

I've never done Discovery Cove, but people always say it's a lot of fun. The closest I've ever gotten to something like that was the dolphin encounter they have at Seaworld in San Diego. You don't get to swim with the dolphins there, but you can go to the side of the tank and hand feed the dolphins and touch them. It's kind of fun to interact with what is believed to be the second most intelligent animal on the planet (unless you believe the Douglas Adams book, that is). :) Dolphins are definitely cool.

And I like that statue of Aladar at Animal Kingdom, too. You went on the ride too, didn't you? Little piece of trivia: did you know the ride opened about two years before the movie came out? Interesting, huh. I really like the ride myself, and I even like the little pre-show movie.

I know you said you weren't too into your visit to the Kennedy Space Center, but I'd like to share an experience I had there if you will be kind enough to indulge me for a moment:

We were there kind of late in the day, and we were looking around the museum after having done the bus tour. Closing time was approaching as we were having a last look around. They had a moon rock on display and the museum curator came to take it out of the display case and put it into a vault somewhere in the back for the night. There was hardly anyone left in the museum by then, and she asked us if we'd like to have my picture taken while holding the moon rock. Not too surprisingly, we said "YES!" :D

So here I am holding the moon rock in that little sealed box. I think I'm like 14 in this picture. The woman there is the curator.

Of course, an experience like this is impossible in this day and age. But things were simpler back then, so this is a rather fond memory for me. And besides, how many chances in your life do you get to hold a moon rock. :) Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

I've been back to the visitors center there twice since this first visit, but none have been recent, so I'm not sure if the moon rock is still on display there. But if you toured the museum area while you were there and saw a moon rock, then it's most likely the very same rock I'm holding above. How's that for a little serendipity in how our paths have crossed.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Florida is fun, isn't it. If you ever get a chance on a future trip, I highly recommend the Busch Gardens amusement park in Tampa, a visit to Thomas Edison's and Henry Ford's homes in Fort Myers, a visit to the Everglades, and driving the 100+ mile causeway across the Florida Keys to Key West. Lots of fun things to do in Florida.
